Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

Thursday, April 5, 2012 - 1:41 AM MDT

¡Hola mis amigos en Puerto Rico! Aquí está su información...I finally am able to bring you a schedule update for Isla del Encanto and the Virgin Islands. Samsung and their subcontractors are indeed beginning work in the PR/VI market this month and will get started on the first 22 sites.

The Network Vision schedule for the entire market will run from April, out into November. We have included several maps of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in the this article. In these maps you can get an idea of how and when they will be deploying throughout the islands.

The entire PR/VI market deployment does not start in one city and then spread out across to other areas. Rather, each part of the market gets more towers month after month until the whole market is complete. If this schedule holds, Sprint will likely announce the market as live in August. The San Juan area will be largely complete by the end of September.

One thing that is not for certain at this time, is whether 4G LTE will be complete and live in conjunction with these dates. Some of the source information appeared as if 4G LTE was being deployed later. However, we cannot confirm this information at this time. As we know more specificity about LTE deployment in Puerto Rico, we will bring that information to you. As always, stay tuned to Sprint 4G Rollout Updates for all the latest Network Vision news.

The map in this article shows when physical upgrades at the sites are scheduled to begin. This includes the upgraded antennas/panels, cabling runs, base station cabinets, etc. This work has been confirmed as under way.

However, as we have explained in our most recent Puerto Rico schedule article, LTE is still a few months out from deployment. The backhaul is not ready yet and neither is the new 4G core in Bayamon. LTE site work will not begin in PR/VI until the Fall.

Tower.jpg

Hi to all in the forum, I took this picture from the tower in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, can someone tell me if this tower has new antennas for the new network vision? I think Sprint is in the top of the tower and I see some cables that are not connected.

The second row from the top sure looks a lot like the NV panels at the Yauco, PR site. You can see the RRU's too. Looks like this site has had a NV overhaul. Now just waiting on the LTE core in Bayamon and backhaul, and this site should be set. Thanks for the photo!

Today I took this photo from the same tower, as you can see they are on top of the tower working.

So there should be 3 panels when the tower is updated to NV??(LTE, 800, 1900?

Edit: or is one panel capable of 800-1900 and a second one for LTE?

Actually, one panel can handle all of them. 800/1900, CDMA/LTE. Each panel can handle up to 4 radios. Each radio can handle up to 4 carriers. Only really heavy usage sites need a second NV panel for each sector.

There may be several legacy panels with the one NV panel on each sector. But the legacy panels will be removed in the future, leaving just the one NV panel on each of three sectors on every tower.
