Network Vision/LTE - Northern & Southern Connecticut Markets (includes all cities)

One other thing.....maybe I came across wrong, but I am not mad, nor really vocal at Sprint, to me it seemed like a better business move to have LTE going faster in this area, especially with the amount of "money" people in CT have, and of course the big hot spot casinos.

But, I can also see the point that the traveling market might not care as much, the money is in those that live in the region, not the ones passing through it.

Well, to take a stab at "why". Maybe it is because Providence is the 39th most populous metropolitan statistical area in the US and already has a form of 4G in WiMax. If I was the one making the decisions, I would have them as a 3rd or 4th round market.

Interesting' date=' I knew CT was bad, but that bad? Jeeze.

So, I guess my next question is, how long has it been this way? Is this a new level of "junk" carriers have to wade in? We were nearly the first to get wimax, I had wimax on my evo less than 2 months after its release. Did they get a big jump on things here or were they just much easier to work with then?

So I guess that leads me to the next question, why wouldnt they have started permitting earlier? It seems like the muck of CT causes things to slow down, but when they started in Baltimore, Boston, NYC, the next ones on the list you saw were the major pieces connecting those sectors. I frankly am surprised Providence is so far behind as well. It too had wimax fast, infact, something tells me they might of been first nationwide.....

But either way, like I said in my post in the Mass thread, too much "Not in my backyard" syndrome to call this country free anymore.

WiMax planning and deployment began in 2007/2008. Not in 2010 when the EVO came out. Clearwire had permitting and planning completed for 25 more markets than they ever even got to. For instance, Clearwire was prepared to fully deploy in San Diego and Phoenix before they ran out of money.

Sprint is deploying Network Vision as permits come available and backhaul is ready. They are not waiting for all the permitting to complete over an entire market like Clearwire did. If so, they wouldnt even be able to begin for another 9-12 months.

also Trumble, woodbury. Will these towers be active in near future? Are they just doing one tower in every town. I saw 12 existing antennas with 3 dual band antennas but next to it says 4G/LTE upgrade. So is that true for all the dual ban replacments?

These are towers that have permits/work being done now or soon to be starting. Some of these towns have more then one permit. for instance when I say Bethlehem I mean there is one tower in Bethlehem that does have a permit not all of the towers in the town. all of sprints new antennas are multi band LTE/PCS/SMR

In East Windsor this last week I saw two multi carrier towers getting work done. One by Eastern Communications which had a car size trailer carrying something up to the Site and the other had Northeast Tower workers up on the tower doing something with panels. One of the towers I was driving and couldn't see much, the other is up a hill on a private road, and you can't see the ground where that equipment would be, only the tower, so I don't know what they were doing, if anything.

Google seemed to tell me Eastern Community does Verizon work, so i doubt any of it was sprint unfortunately.

I can tell you that it is not Sprint but if you want to know what carrier is working on that tower let me know.

I remember reading this, but totally forgot about it until I was cleaning up my twitter account today.

Damn you CT and your cell phone tower laws. This only appears to point to new towers though.

Just noticing all of my signal in pretty much all of ct. Switching to eHRDP from EVDO rev 2. From what I've been reading I guess that's a good thing.. I just got my galaxy s3 on an impulse buy and realized after it didn't support WIMAX. Really pissed me off actually...LOL

So I see that Southern CT has gotten a rollout date confirmed from Sprint for Q1 2013 wonder why Northern CT has not gotten one as of yet. Is there a map indicating what is considered Northern vs Southern. I am in Middletown and was wondering which market I would be in?

Where did you see an official Sprint rollout date of Q1-2013?

I was reading a release on Sprint.com http://newsroom.sprint.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=2482 that stated 2 Southern CT Sites will be deployed in coming months I assumed by Q1 2013. Thanks for the map I did see this but can distinctly tell which part of CT is Southern and Northern. Do you know if Middletown is in the Northern or Southern market?

This is the department that regulates tower upgrades. They are who you want to call an show support for the tower upgrades. I got this link from a friend who is a state rep.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No soecific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.
    • T-Mobile Delivers Industry-Leading Customer, Service Revenue and Profitability Growth in Q1 2024, and Raises 2024 Guidance https://www.t-mobile.com/news/business/t-mobile-q1-2024-earnings — — — — — I find it funny that when they talk about their spectrum layers they're saying n71, n25, and n41. They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.
