  1. They will probably need to shut individual towers down as they upgrade. Service will degrade some when they do that. When Shentel was replacing equipment here, calls dropped quite often. Once the work is done though, it'll be worth it. Sent from my Note 4.
  2. Like I said, it's definitely usable. I'm just hoping they (Shentel) ends up deploying B41 in more than just the cities in their footprint. Speeds are only going to continue to slow everywhere as Sprint upgrades users to LTE phones. I'm sure most postpaid users are now on LTE, but more and more prepaid users are upgrading to LTE phones every day. Sent from my Note 4.
  3. I'm confident Shentel will make significant improvements this year. I'm just hoping they don't just "call it a day" when they get B41 up and running in the cities. I guess time will tell. I would guess Harrisburg will probably see B41 first since it's the largest city in the market. It also has Clear wimax service but I don't know if that equipment can be used as dual mode or not. I remember reading that some equipment can do dual mode and others can't. I'm not sure which kind Harrisburg has installed. Sent from my Note 4.
  4. Pretty consistently around 6-8 up and down during peak times. Usable, but much slower than it had been. I was consistently getting 14-23 down as of about 4-6 months ago. Sent from my Note 4.
  5. Yeah, data is slowing but still very usable around here (Shenandoah Co, VA). B41 will definitely help with the congestion. I think Shentel was hoping they wouldn't have to put B41 panels everywhere but it seems like they may need to in the end. I'm sure they'll concentrate on the cities first but the towns are starting to slow down too so hopefully after they get the cities done, they will then start installing it in the towns. Sent from my Note 4.
  6. I just recently got a 2nd smart phone (work). They are both Sprint tri-band phones (Note 4 & S4T). I noticed about 10 minutes ago that my Note was on B26 and my S4T was on B25. I ran speed tests back to back and B25 was right around 6.5mbps up and down and B26 was at around 7.2 up and down. It appears Shentel has done pretty well with load balancing, at least on the tower closest to me. I've also been noticing a lot more changing of bands as I travel around where I live. It's nice to see the network really work as it's intended. There hasn't been much "talk" in here lately which is probably a good sign. I hope Shentel keeps up the good work (at least on their wireless side of things). Sent from my Note 4.
  7. That explains why service in that side of the mall is pretty decent. Sent from my Note 4.
  8. I don't think that's what he meant by his post. I think he was comparing his experience of going to B41 after hanging up a call vs. someone else who posted they go to B25 after they hang up a call. Sent from my Note 4.
  9. If you go north on I-81 from the Weyers Cave exit, you go down a hill, then back up another. It's at the top of that hill. Sent from my Note 4.
  10. I'll actually be down there (Weyers Cave) next week. Sent from my Note 4.
  11. Yeah, that's about a mile South of the county line. Sent from my Note 4.
  12. Nice. I'm working on a Master's degree through LU online. Sent from my Note 4.
  13. Shentel's service area stops at the Rockingham/Augusta Co line, about 10 miles south of Harrisonburg. Sent from my Note 4.
  14. I've spotted 2 small cell locations near me. One in Toms Brook and the other in Woodstock, VA. It appears they are B25 only. Each site has two cells, each with their own GCI. I'm in an ALU market (Shentel) so I assume that's what they are but I'm not sure. I posted the above in another thread but was wondering if anyone else has seen any small cells in other parts of the Shentel market. Sent from my Note 4.

  16. I'm pretty sure that's the western edge of the Richmond market, but still good news. Sent from my Note 4.
  17. RF seems about the same to me, compared by using signal check. Sent from my Note 4.
  18. When I had the 720T, I had to load the refresh customization app to get roaming to work last summer when we went to Western NC. My wife has that phone now but she hasn't been out of native coverage since she started using it a few months ago. Sent from my Note 4.
  19. I was surprised to see it on my recent visit but it was a nice surprise. B41 is also starting to pop up. Parts of the area are still lacking but will hopefully fill it. My brother lives a few miles north of the Lehigh Valley mall and it's mostly 3G around there. One tower must have been upgraded nearby though because I would pull in a weak B25 signal in one room of his house and had a fairly solid (-100 or so) signal outside. Previously, I never had any LTE there, even outside. South Allentown (where my parents live) has good B25 coverage but it's getting bogged down pretty bad during the day. I'm sure extra capacity will be added soon, but it's nice to have decent service there. Sent from my Note 4.
  20. Mike, I was waiting on a traffic light a couple days ago and noticed SCP was cursing me I'm assuming you have a -40 cap on the signal because I was watching the signal go from -40 to seeing what is in the notification bar. I was about 30 yards from the tower with a sector facing right at me. Right as I took the screen shot, the light turned green so I didn't have a chance to check what the main app would have said. I assume though it would've been the same. Sent from my Note 4.
  21. For me, I have been on a few calls where I have been on hold for a long time. It would have been nice on those occasions to have data just to pass the time. I have a prepaid hotspot that I take with me on trips so if I'm on the phone for more than a few minutes, I can turn the hotspot on to keep using my phone for GPS purposes. I use Waze and it can go for at least 10 minutes or so with no data. The hotspot is nice to have but I know not everyone has that option. I wouldn't buy one just for that reason either. I have it mainly for my tablet and occasionally my laptop for when I'm not near wifi or when I need something a little more secure than unsecured wifi. Sent from my Note 4.
  22. I guess some people don't understand that it's not going to be a quick process. Red and Magenta are still offering incentives to switch to them. I think the death star is too. It's a great time to switch to a provider with faster data in the greater ntelos metropolis, if that's what you need. If you just want to complain, call ntelos. Complaining here doesn't do anything to help the situation. Sent from my Note 4.
  23. I saw this on Android Central earlier but I doubt it'll be released in the US. Samsung usually releases a new faster variant of most flagship phones in S. Korea only. I guess we'll see what happens though. Sent from my Note 4.
  24. Yes, texts go through LTE when connected to it. I haven't tried it but there should be no reason that wouldn't work. Sent from my Note 4.
  25. Try to uninstall and reinstall it. When I had issues like what you are having with another app recently, I did that and it fixed it. Sent from my Note 4.
