I think you may have explained the issue with future upgrades being removed in your post. I would imagine that first of all it is not an oversight, that was a major piece of functionality that was removed. Secondly, I believe it was removed because people were confusing the "Data speed upgrades" with LTE deployments. Let's be realistic, it even happens on this site quite a bit.

Network Vision/LTE - West Michigan Market (Grand Rapids/Lansing/Kalamazoo)
delta772er replied to jefbal99's topic in Markets
Yes, please get some pics if you can! I was there yesterday and kept losing 3G service (although I didn't get a chance to see what site I was connecting to for 1X even).- 1,028 replies

I thought about posting this in the other thread, but thought a new one might be better, please forgive me mods if I shouldn't have: CNBC is reporting that Sprint will announce it's Softbank deal at 4 AM Eastern Time this morning via web cast. Softbank will apparently purchase 70 percent of Sprint Nextel for approximately $20 billion. No-compete with Verizon? Wouldn't that violate anti-trust laws six ways to Sunday?

Or just pay for the $14.99 phone from Virgin Mobile, port to Virgin and port back to your new line at Sprint, total cost $105.

Sprint Marketing Updates 4G LTE City List where work is under way and adds 20 more
delta772er commented on S4GRU's blog entry in The Wall
Actually I wouldn't be surprised if this was the towards the top of the list because of this. AT&T and Verizon have done the same in the past. I think overall Sprint knows this market was severely underdeveloped by their former affiliate and they appear to be attempting to make it right. One step at a time. -
I'm not sure I would worry about this too much. It'll give Sprint much needed capital and I believe that at the end of the day they will remain independent of SoftBank. Much like Verizon Wireless is largely independent of Vodafone. Just a quick check of SoftBank's web site shows they too offer unlimited data service in Japan.

I telecommute and spend my entire day on my iPhone 5 or Photon Q and both work on the Airave without any issues.

I got 32.45 down/21.30 up in Kalamazoo, MI on my iPad with Verizon LTE... but only once. It typically averages 15-20 down. Either way, I won't complain. Until Sprint LTE comes to town, then I'll be able to finally be on one carrier (I'll just add the hotspot service to my iPhone).

Network Vision/LTE - Ft. Wayne/South Bend Market
delta772er replied to emburybrett's topic in Markets
I know that NV work is already in progress in the Elkhart area. I was driving around the next county over (Lagrange) and noticed eHRPD on site CH03HO081 south of Shipshewana near IN 5 and US 20. I couldn't run any speed test's as they would all fail due to the low signal strength. Sites CH13HO700 (both near the city of Lagrange), CH13HO701(along I-80/90 on the state line), CH03HO112 (also along I-80/90, Howe / LIma Twp, near the state line) are all still 1X only so I don't know if there's any way to see if anything is being done to these (I would assume SB/Elkhart/Goshen will get done first anyways) towers without being able to see them in person. Once you cross the state line and pick up the legacy corporate towers that are EVDO equipped they are still reporting EVDO Rev. A only. -

I got this while on I90 near the airport in Gary, IN last Friday... I'm not complaining. -
CONFIRMED: Network Vision/LTE deployment is under way in the Ft. Wayne/South Bend market
delta772er commented on S4GRU's blog entry in The Wall
This is FANTASTIC news. iPCS really left this market in severe disrepair and these changes are very welcome news for me (I live in the area). -
Mine does this when connected to my Airave as well, but so does my Photon Q. When I'm out and about my iPhone does do it but typically switches back right away. It makes me wonder if it's something in the software that disconnects from the EVDO network, perhaps to preserve battery life. Sounds like it may need to be tweaked.

Network Vision on 1x Only Towers
delta772er replied to zodiac12345's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
Thankfully Kalamazoo and St. Joseph (where I live) counties weren't part of this arrangement and were corporate markets so coverage is great, however most of Northern Indiana was part of iPCS too. To this day in many areas there is still not any 3G and most importantly significant holes in even 1X coverage. In Lagrange county Indiana there is basically no point in trying to use your phone, not to mention the issues with cell site handoffs back to the legacy corporate market. Ask me how I know. Hopefully things will get better with the 800 SMR coverage, but I won't hold my breath until I see it in action. -

Convenient that it coincides with the availability of the iPhone 5, obviously LTE coverage is a major selling point for Verzion and to a lesser extent AT&T. -
I'm not sure if it went down to $199 in the store, but via telesales and online it was $149, Apple stores were even price matching upon request.

Sprint has actually been selling the iPhone 4S for $149 for several weeks now, even prior to the announcement yesterday.

Three Days in the Waco 4G LTE FIT & S4GRU Planned Articles
delta772er replied to S4GRU's topic in Markets
Is that because of the Powdermilk Biscuits? Sounds like a great week of updates! -
So I just upgraded my work line to a Photon Q 4G LTE the other day and it seems like a pretty good device so far, but I have been running in to one issue. I've noticed that it constantly drops my 3G connection throughout the day, sometimes in comes back on it's own, other times it doesn't and I have to restart the phone to get it to work. It does this whether I'm at home connected to my Airave 2.5 or out and about. Has anyone else noticed this issue or do you have any suggestions? I considered taking it back and having them swap for a new one since it's new, but it's a 40 mile drive to my nearest Sprint corporate store and wanted to check here first. -Charlie

An interesting article by TIME, it shows the "10 worst" cities for cell phone reception throughout the country and in all but one city Sprint ranked as the "best" carrier in those areas: http://techland.time.com/2012/08/20/can-you-hear-me-now-the-10-u-s-cities-with-the-worst-cell-phone-reception/#detroit-michigan

A lot of 1x in the Seattle area
delta772er replied to tommy24's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
Hopefully this is the case as I've been having issues with dropped calls and 1x data for two or three weeks now. (I'll at least tell myself that it is, because to top of all off my Frontier DSL has been causing problems too which means even my Airave is difficult to use at best.) Although I'm not holding my breath that my city would be done before the two largest cities in the market (Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo). -
Ft. Wayne/South Bend Network Vision/LTE Deployment schedule update
delta772er commented on S4GRU's blog entry in The Wall
It would be interesting to see if any sites get added here as most of this is a former affiliate market. I can vouch that iDEN coverage is MUCH greater in the area than CDMA. I understand this has a lot to do with 800 MHz vs. 1900 MHz but as you can see cell site density isn't that great in some areas, most of the time the sites aren't even in the populated areas or along the state highways. I basically don't even try to use my phone when I'm in N. Indiana. Which is a lot.
