  1. And clearly none of the other carriers ever have issues. Get over it people. It happens. It could happen to your landline too and no matter how important it is to your business it could happen on any carrier at any time and there will always be a call that is more important somewhere else.
  2. Same thing happened here, crazy winds. There's trees down everywhere, but power stayed on (knock on wood our municipal-owned power company does an amazing job) and even my Frontier DSL did. It normally goes out at the first drop of rain.
  3. It just popped up on my phone, installing now
  4. So this is an issue I've had for many years. I live on the Michigan/Indiana border and frequently travel back and forth between the two states. Northern Indiana is a former iPCS market and my part of West Michigan is a legacy corporate market. When I go back and forth my phone does not hand off to the sites in Indiana and vice versa unless I drive so far out of range that it is forced to. And then it drops the call/data connection. A few years back I spoke with an iPCS engineer at HoFo who made some tweaks and it worked better for a while, but over the last year or two it's been just as bad as it was before. It's a little better going from Michigan to Indiana than it is from Indiana to Michigan. Just an annoyance and was curious if anyone had any insight?
  5. I don't think this is the slam dunk for DISH that they are making it out to be. The total purchase price may be higher, but it should be noted that two other important metrics will also be considered by the board/shareholders (info from WSJ)... Debt: SoftBank $21.3 bil vs. DISH $45 bil EBITDA: SoftBank $18 bil vs. DISH $9.4 bil (this is a big one, it indicates that the SoftBank deal offers a more efficient operation which turns in to better long-term returns for shareholders) Cash on hand: SoftBank $14.8 bio vs DISH $8 bil
  6. Yikes. Things are getting even more interesting than they were. On the surface I still think the SoftBank deal has a better chance, but at this point it's up to the board. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they take it directly to the shareholders should the board not be receptive. Either way, I think SoftBank is going to have to throw in some more money.
  7. Just out curiosity about how long does it normally take to draw new data on the map? For example I mapped quite a bit of new LTE this morning around 1:30 AM Eastern and it's not on the map yet. I'm not complaining I'm just curious... Correction: If I zoom in it's there, just not at the higher levels.
  8. All of the equipment is installed at 2 sites around Sturgis but they are waiting on backhaul. The site in town has had Ms. Dig around last week as there are flags and paint marking all of the various utilities around the site but nothing has happened since then.
  9. Agreed. Until AT&T bought Centennial and Verizon bought Alltel, Sprint (including Nextel) was the only nationwide carrier here.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised if it is. I saw a crew running new fiber to a cell site here in town on Wednesday, the only two carriers on it are Sprint and Verizon (formerly an Alltel site). They wouldn't confirm nor deny that it was for Sprint but said it wasn't for Verizon.
  11. I have no way to verify this, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some truth to this, just look at the Chicago deployment, started in the suburbs (and in some cases even further out) and moved towards the loop.
  12. Just out of curiosity, is there anywhere to get this information (about microwave licenses) for other markets?
  13. I was in Niles on Monday and didn't have any LTE (or EVDO)... EDIT: In fact, I just looked and if it had been working as of Monday I would have picked it up as I was on the train (you can see the line on Google maps) back from Chicago to Niles.
  14. It's hard to say as I'm not familiar with that particular area, but it sounds like the tower you are connecting to has yet to be upgraded. The LTE and 3G upgrades will occur at all of the existing sites, but a market is officially launched when a sufficient number of sites in any given area are upgraded. Once a market it is launched it may take several weeks (or perhaps months depending on the size and geography of the area) to be 100% completed. If you become a site sponsor you can access the maps of complete sites and maps of all of the sites to help narrow down your particular location.
  15. It's possible the site near your location has not been completed, not all of the sites in any given area are completed at the same time. If you're not picking up eHRPD I would generally think this is the case. The maps depict outdoor coverage (in excellent conditions, flat, tree-less, etc.), so does your device pick up LTE outdoors? Also, some people have found that they need to cycle through Airplane Mode to get their phone to pick up the service. In the future, you should see signal strength at or near your existing 1X/EVDO levels when the rollout is complete.
  16. It's definitely stronger in South Bend vs. Mishawaka or Elkhart/Goshen, but holes are quickly getting filled.
  17. Unfortunately no, but my destination (Amsterdam) may or may not have
  18. I work in and around commercial airports for a living and have had many discussions with network engineers from Sprint and other carriers. Early on all of the carriers were prohibited by the FAA from broadcasting their signals over the runways at airports with instrument landing systems. This was due to a fear of interference. Therefore all of the infrastructure around airports was designed with this in mind and as stated above many terminals have DAS's installed that may take time to be upgraded as well (not to mention all of the other issues mentioned). This is obviously highly dependent on the configuration of the airport and the infrastructure of the carrier. For the record, in the international terminal at Chicago O'Hare airport about two weeks ago I had no issues with connecting to LTE.
  19. One thing I noticed is that most of the areas purchased outside of the Chicago market were former iPCS markets where in many areas there isn't even any EVDO yet not to mention significant coverage holes. Any correlation? Obviously the Chicago spectrum is good on its own.
  20. I've not had one that was outsourced in in many years. Granted, I don't call that often. In fact the last 3 or 4 times I've called over the past year or so (for activations and one service issue that was network based an PROMPTLY resolved) they've all been state side. When they answer they say this is so and so at the call center in Any Town, USA.
  21. Wouldn't that then defeat the point of having a nationwide carrier?
  22. eHRPD is related to LTE, you can read more about it here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1819-what-is-ehrpd/page__p__52976#entry52976
  23. Mine has done that quite a bit, but it only happens in areas with eHRPD. I first noticed it in Chicago back in September, but now that we have eHRPD enabled here it is doing it randomly as well.
