  1. The VoIP capability is not Google Voice, per se. Rather, it is Google Chat. To use GrooVeIP, for example, you have to tick the box in your Voice settings to forward to Chat. Honestly, the divisions among Google Voice, Chat, Talk, and Hangouts are quite confusing. I think everything will be centralized soon within Hangouts -- maybe under yet a different name, though, as Hangouts sounds too slangy. I am sure that Google would like to include a native VoIP client, but the wireless operators are basically implying, if not outright saying "Don't you dare do that." AJ
  2. Uh, despite its name, what does Google Voice have to do with voice quality? AJ
  3. He chose...poorly... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DGFuHC75aY AJ
  4. People misconstrue tri band as tri mode. AJ
  5. No, you do not need a Sprint SIM to run a network scan. See my sans SIM scan two pages ago. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4989-lg-google-nexus-5-users-thread/?p=235128 AJ
  6. Try going outside and running a network scan. I bet that you will pick up Sprint LTE then. Your closest site may not have received its LTE upgrade yet. Even if it has, you may still not connect to band 25 LTE 1900 inside because the LTE signal is less robust than that of CDMA1X and EV-DO. By the way, if you are interested in becoming an S4GRU sponsor, we have maps that show all Network Vision upgraded sites across the country. So, you can view the progress on the sites in your area for yourself. AJ
  7. I can put on my construction worker costume, come knock on your door, and take a look at your "sector." AJ
  8. VZW's open access requirements are limited to its Upper 700 MHz C block licenses, hence band 13 LTE. That would be my guess as to why band 4 LTE devices will not attach. VZW is relishing getting back to its blocking ways. AJ
  9. No, that is a much older LG feature phone. AJ
  10. Samsung should call it the Galaxy S4 girlphone. AJ
  11. Without a SIM, I get similar results here, too: The difference is that Sprint band 25 LTE is available in my case, while VZW band 4 LTE is available in your case. AJ
  12. No, that MCC-MNC is MetroPCS. You do not have native MetroPCS in Portland, but 311-660 is probably broadcast now so that MetroPCS devices will attach to the T-Mobile network. AJ
  13. That is better than swapping SIMs. The SIM card concept is overrated; it is GSMA propaganda. I still do not have a SIM for my Nexus 5. Even T-Mobile stores do not want to give or sell me a SIM -- unless I sign up for one of their preferred plans that will pay a commission. AJ
  14. OSHA requires an LTE break every few hours. AJ
  15. Are you going to put on your nurse costume and treat yourself? AJ
  16. It is more a joke about a person being naive or gullible enough to believe that there is oceanfront property in Arizona. AJ
  17. No, CDMA1X supports voice, data, and SMS -- just not voice and data simultaneously. And if you go back to 2002 when Sprint launched PCS Vision, that was CDMA1X data. Now, what you have experienced is a CDMA1X connection without a data session. If you look at the status bar in that situation, the "3G" indicator should be absent. Given time and capacity, the data session and "3G" indicator will return. AJ
  18. As I stated in this thread earlier today, S4GRU prohibits discussion of illicit tethering. This is the final warning. Further discussion will result in disciplinary action. AJ
  19. No equipment supports that carrier aggregation. So, as I stated, the spectrum is not really useful yet. AJ
  20. On the CDMA1X engineering screen, the Service Option will be different between voice and data. AJ
  21. A Nexus 5 purchased from Google Play does not make a difference. The chat with tech support provided just a stock answer to get the user off the chat. This is why I have long said not to bother frontline Sprint employees with these tech questions. They do not have the information you seek. You are just wasting time for everyone involved. AJ
  22. Yes and no. AT&T has no Lower 700 MHz A block spectrum. Avoided it like the plague -- for technical and/or political reasons. And the Lower 700 MHz D/E block spectrum is unpaired, so it is not really useful yet. AJ
  23. Thank you. Members, need we remind you? S4GRU does not allow discussion of unauthorized tethering. That is a violation of Sprint's Ts and Cs, which you agreed to as part of your contract. If you want tethering rolled in with your data plan, then you will have to sacrifice unlimited data. AJ
  24. I have had that "dummy" or "toy" experience before with some recent Samsung handsets. That is disappointing a similar "cheap" feel extends to the Moto X, as the design looks impressive in pictures. And Moto Maker customization is reportedly coming to Sprint soon. http://gigaom.com/2013/11/08/moto-maker-might-be-coming-to-sprint-t-mobile-and-verizon-by-next-week/ I suppose a handset made in the US forgoes cheap Chinese labor, so it goes with cheap materials to compensate. A shame... AJ
  25. Which variant is your HTC 8X? AT&T? If so, there you go. AJ
