  1. No. A booster is a transmitter, so it must receive FCC OET authorization -- just like the handset authorization that we often write about here at S4GRU. If a booster is not tested and authorized for the PCS G block, then it will not work for Sprint's current LTE 5 MHz FDD carrier. That the PCS G block is adjacent to the traditional PCS A-F blocks does not matter. AJ
  2. Just FYI, the case talk needs to be directed to the Nexus 5 accessories thread, and a number of recent posts here will probably be moved over there. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4973-nexus-5-accessories/page-3&do=findComment&comment=231997 AJ
  3. In OS X, Terminal is the UNIX command line app. AJ
  4. I had that problem earlier this afternoon. But once I opened a Terminal window, navigated to the appropriate directory, and typed a valid command, I was then prompted for the RSA key. AJ
  5. Yes, just for you, The Dave, here is a version with a clichéd mountain peak at sunrise. It is so inspirational... AJ
  6. Even with no SIM yet to enable the Sprint specific dialer codes, I have managed to add home screen shortcuts to Debug and Testing APKs. I can now access the engineering screens and cellular radio selection menu without going through the dialer, meaning that I can access them at one touch, even while in call -- an important factor for CDMA1X voice network diagnostics. I am the exalted potentate, the king of the wireless network nerds! AJ
  7. SO, yes. RC, no. From my recollection going back about 10 years, RC is a Samsung "enginerring" feature. AJ
  8. The comments are now starting to appear following the articles, and both authors are getting almost universally pilloried for their shoddy reporting. Serves them right. AJ
  9. Let us just say that spelling is not a high "proirity" in the "enginerring" department. AJ
  10. Lose the sarcasm. It is poor journalism, bar none, because the writer cited only one, unreliable source. The writer seemed more concerned with furthering an agenda than confirming correct information. AJ
  11. Yes, "hating" is seemingly the right word. The inclusion of the third quarter subscriber figures was completely irrelevant to the issue at hand. The writers of both articles seek to paint Sprint in a negative light. I also wonder if the original writer went to a third party Sprint Store. If they choose, those authorized retailers are probably allowed to charge fees for providing SIM cards, since they otherwise will not make any money for providing the service. AJ
  12. The writer is running with some incorrect info that one Sprint frontline employee told him. Poor journalism. AJ
  13. John, did you forget? http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-351-teaser-is-the-lg-d820-the-nexus-5/ AJ
  14. Yes, you can rest assured that it will be an option among the usual list of cellular radio modes. That is consistent across numerous handsets. AJ
  15. How dare you refer to Jim Gaffigan as "that guy." He and Brian Regan are comedy gods around here. You will laugh. It is so commanded. AJ
  16. Yes. The "white" has been well received, the "black," less so. AJ
  17. Well, I was being partly facetious, partly serious. The "embedded SIMs" and their activation procedure stayed largely consistent with that of all other handsets on Sprint going back 15 years, making the process far more familiar and straightforward. The activation process for the removable SIM in the Nexus 5 is anything but familiar and straightforward right now, hence my point. But the wrinkles will get ironed out as time goes on. AJ
  18. Since Sprint and T-Mobile do not have roaming agreements with each other, you will have to swap SIMs. The SIM in use will dictate which domestic network the handset uses. AJ
  19. Yeah, those embedded SIMs are really looking bad about now. AJ
  20. Yes, I believe you mean "as to whom," math professor. But I, too, do have an attitude -- as it pertains to the negators on this site. Go away. Find greener pastures. Good luck. AJ
  21. I echo lilotimz's sentiments when I say that we seem to have a lot of Verucas in this thread. Well, for those people who must have it right away, we have a video... Additionally, I want to reiterate my post from the prior Nexus 5 thread: Until Friday at least, have some patience. If you have none, then take it elsewhere -- to AT&T or T-Mobile. We will not miss your attitude. AJ
  22. No, it should not be more involved -- as long as the Sprint device is first tied to your account. Popping in a T-Mobile SIM does effectively the same thing as powering down before hopping a plane. It temporarily removes your registration from your Sprint HLR/VLR while your device is unavailable. AJ
  23. A partner company cannot have frontline employees officially commenting on an upcoming release that greatly affects both it and the partner. Therefore, the training memos could not have gone out until Thursday or even Friday last week. And not every frontline employee worked late last week. Moreover, I wonder how much these Google Play sales really mean to Sprint. How many Nexus 5s will be sold through Google Play these first few weeks? And what percentage of those will be headed to Sprint? My guess is possibly 300,000, and of those sales, only a minority make their way to Sprint. Likely, most will end up on T-Mobile, followed by AT&T, then Sprint a distant third. That said, what we have seen, anecdotally, is better preparedness from Sprint as the days have gone by. So, do not overlook that. But anything prior to the Spark launch this Friday could be construed as premature ejaculation -- or should I call it just icing on the cake. AJ
  24. In other words, it should carry a warning label, much like Hot Pockets. AJ
