  1. Yeah, but that was standard two months ago with the immediate update for the Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S4 Mini, was it not? AJ
  2. That is why I referenced it. I knew that you would get it. I live right on the edge of the corporate territory. Two of the three southwesternmost Hy-Vee stores are located in Lawrence. AJ
  3. Goodbye, preview thread. May you enjoy the afterlife. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/5273-samsung-galaxy-s4t-tri-band-user-discussion-thread/ AJ
  4. No, the build quality will not be a huge step backward, but look for it to be more akin to that of the HTC One X or HTC One S of two years ago. The amount of CNC work required to mill the HTC One out of a solid block of aluminum is likely just too excessive for an encore after modest sales. AJ
  5. I doubt it. Expect to see a slight regression because the HTC One did not exactly set sales records, despite its impeccable build quality. So, as I have said before, the HTC One is probably the apex of cellphone design and build quality that we will see for quite some time. AJ
  6. If each additional carrier requires another card, that does put Sprint at a disadvantage to VZW and T-Mobile. The latter two are going for the largest possible single carrier (5-20 MHz FDD) that each has the available spectrum to deploy, respectively. And each can accommodate that single carrier on a single card. AJ
  7. Hello, my name is Richard Udekwu. I will pay you 1000 USD for the Nexus 5. Will you accept a Nigerian money order? RU
  8. Looking over these license partitions, I noted Arthur County, Nebraska. Population 460. Hmm, at a typical valuation of roughly $0.70 per MHz·POP, I could afford to buy up the entire PCS or AWS band there. Maybe I should go into spectrum sales... AJ
  9. You are correct, Milan. Whether it was the New Year, beer, or late night, I did not see it last night. But I like to think of myself as the Sherlock Holmes of the FCC ULS, and I just had a "eureka" moment. Rapid City is among the markets included in the VZW-T-Mobile pending FCC filing that you and I were discussing just a few weeks ago. The transaction -- which also includes a pending lease -- will assign the entire AWS F block from T-Mobile to VZW in Pennington County. And VZW has already obtained an AWS E block partition in Pennington County a year ago. http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/ApplicationSearch/applAdmin.jsp?applID=7996271 http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/licenseMarketSum.jsp?licKey=3406104 So, there is the spectrum necessary for a 15 MHz FDD band 4 carrier. Mystery solved. AJ
  10. Hold on, we cannot judge carrier bandwidth from the EARFCN alone. As I told Robert, it could be a 5 MHz FDD carrier in the lower half of the AWS F block license. Other odd variations, too, are possible. Unfortunately, Samsung (non Sprint) handsets seem to be alone in including the LTE carrier bandwidth field in their engineering screens. I would love to have direct access to that info, but I am just not a fan of gaudy AMOLED and cheap plastic. So, a Samsung is not likely in my near future. For that reason, I am glad to have my spectrum analyzer, since it settles carrier bandwidth questions without the need for a handset nor a subscription. Regardless, we have another case of VZW and T-Mobile incestuously operating in each other's spectrum without a prior FCC filing. I am not sure what to make of it. AJ
  11. "Is it true that if you don't use it, you lose it?" "Is that a serious question?" "No, it wasn't." AJ
  12. As one of our local fitness equipment stores annually announces, "Happy New Rear," which many of you may need after a year sitting on your butts reading S4GRU. AJ
  13. Does anyone ever show up in Lynchburg and ask for directions to the Jack Daniel's Distillery? AJ
  14. That may not be such a bad result. Back when SBC bought out AT&T and BellSouth, then rebranded both itself and Cingular as AT&T, plenty of people thought that AT&TWS had come back. And many were happy about that. Of course, they were wrong about the return of AT&TWS, but that did not necessarily matter. As long as they were pleased with the Cingular service rebranded to AT&T, they could erroneously think that it was the doing of a revived AT&TWS. The same could be true in this instance with Nextel, playing on the sentimental memories of the Nextel folk. AJ
  15. While the devices may be capable, their use of CDMA1X 800 will still be PRL and network dependent. And at this point, we are not sure how Sprint will handle MVNOs with the additional bands coming online. AJ
