  1. It may very well be. Let us know if you find anything. Robert
  2. Eric...like dmchssc eludes to above, your comments must be predicated on the belief that the new Sprint network will be managed the same as the old Sprint network. Sprint cannot manage things like that post Network Vision. And I don't think they will. The revenue from MVNO's must pay for the increased carriers that will be needed because of the additional strain. I'm sure that it's factored in. And if it still makes them money beyond that, then I say the more the merrier. So far, the amount of customers from any one MVNO is negligible. I like to think of MVNO's as little marketing and pricing model laboratories. If one becomes successful, Sprint will have to adopt similar strategies to keep from losing customers to the MVNO. The fact that Sprint doesn't feel threatened, but rather embraces MVNO's, makes me feel good about Sprint's long term vision. Robert
  3. I forgot about the Dr. Katz episode. It has been so long since I've watched that show. I watched that in college. None of my friends got why I thought that show was funny. Robert
  4. We are constantly bringing updates regarding Sprint's 4G rollouts. And our Sponsor members get some very detailed information including interactive maps. It is not anticipated that Sprint will send texts. In most of the new LTE devices, battery life is the same whether you leave the device in LTE mode or not. Especially on the EVO LTE and the GS-III. I leave my devices in CDMA/LTE mode on all my devices. Leaving your device in LTE mode also allows you to connect to eHRPD, which sometimes provides a performance advantage over 3G EVDO. Robert
  5. by Robert Herron Sprint 4G Rollout Updates Wednesday, July 11, 2012 - 12:00 PM MDT The next market in our Network Vision/LTE deployment schedule update series is...West Washington. The West Washington market has yet to be announced by Sprint, and may not be announced until as late as this Fall. The Sprint West Washington market encompasses most of the Western Half of Washington State. This includes Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Everett, Kent, Renton, Federal Way, Puyallup, Issaquah, Bremerton, Olympia, Bellingham and Aberdeen/Hoquiam. Sprint's Network Vision OEM Samsung is scheduled to begin mobilizing their subcontractors around the market in October. The first completed Network Vision sites are scheduled to start coming online in November. Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch. According to the Network Vision schedules that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in May, these are the anticipated sites that would likely have LTE complete at that time. This would provide fairly good LTE coverage over many parts of the market. Schedule details and the bottom line Sprint has not yet selected a date to formally "launch" LTE service in West Washington. It is difficult to try to pick a date now this far out, but we have attempted to do that. In looking at the schedule as of today, it would indicate a May market launch (going on a 40% - 50% completion for launch). But there is no way to know if Samsung and their subcontractors will actually hit their schedule dates before deployment in this market begins. We will be able to gauge better after a few months of production is achieved. Samsung needs to hit a production rate of approximately 55 sites per month to stay on schedule. This is a normal production rate when compared to other markets. They shouldn't have any schedule issues with the appropriate amount of resources allocated. S4GRU has examined the schedule in great detail in this market and sees that most of the sites will be complete by September 2013. However, there may be a few sporadic sites that will linger past the completion. Photo of Seattle Skyline/Mt. Rainier provided courtesy of Wikimedia Commons. 6. At least you didn't say the airport code for Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan out loud! Robert INTERESTING AIRPORT CODE FACTS: MCO is named for McCoy Air Force Base. Which is what Orlando International Airport used to be. My Dad was stationed there in 1962. Orlando Executive Airport holds the ORL airport code, but it does not serve commercial traffic anymore. The Airport code for Fresno Yosemite International Airport is FAT. It was originally issued to Fresno Air Terminal. However, the City has been trying to change it to FYI, and the FAA keeps turning down the request.
  7. Let me give you some background info. The deployment speed is not determined based on some guy in Overland Park who deems some markets worthy of being deployed faster than others. The biggest factor in market deployment speed is the backhaul being installed ahead of Network Vision. In the instance of Long Island, the schedule completes around September 2013. And since backhaul runs about 45 days ahead of a site being complete, we know that backhaul work will be complete in the market around August 1st. So backhaul deployment will run approximately from November 2012 - July 2013. So there are two choices here. Sprint can hold off starting NV deployment in Long Island when there is enough backhaul deployed where they can produce 40 sites per month...or, they can get started right away behind the backhaul crews and deploy 25 sites per month. With the slower production rate, right behind deployment crews, they can get sites coming online sooner. Customers want to see progress. Even at 25 sites per month, approximately 6 sites are going live every week. If they wait until they can produce 40 sites per month, they will not start the market until March. I think customers would rather they start in November, than to start in March. Since the finish date is going to be the same either way. Hopefully this helps to explain the situation. Robert
  8. I edited the title to better differentiate this thread from another FreedomPop thread. Robert
  9. You're the guinea pig. When LTE comes back up your area, I'm counting on you to test the GNex and EVO LTE side by side over a few days to see if you have any LTE Connectivity issues like before. I had other people suspect it, but no one could confirm it without another LTE device side by side when it occurred. You and I are the only people I know with both devices, and I don't live anywhere near Sprint LTE! Robert Robert
  10. And I would expect them to address this issue covertly. Now, how soon do they stop blocking? Robert
  11. Maybe to better control the LTE connectivity? Robert
  12. Are the LTE installation guys the same as the network maintainence guys? No Robert have you heard anything on the Baltimore / Washington market since May? No, other than sites complete Is there a new Goal date? Not that I am aware of, but we monitor based on sites complete The newest S3 prl 25005 has opened up some new roaming areas Where? You got some details to share? You got some hot eHRPD action there. Robert
  13. They definitely didn't get priority in WiMax. However, being in the second round of NV, I certainly wouldn't categorize them as screwed this time. I think Long Island is getting fair placement, IMO. Robert
  14. The problem with the NetMonitor app accuracy is not the app's fault. It's Sprint's fault. For whatever reason, some Sprint market sites do not provide accurate info to NetMonitor. However, in other markets its fine. Like here in New Mexico, NetMonitor is wonderfully accurate. Sprint has no interest in fixing the issue, because they don't want you to know which site you're connected to. Some carriers even block the info. Have you checked out our site maps? Robert
  15. As a fellow New Mexican, I feel your pain. <sent from my office in Los Alamos> Robert
  16. Yeah, USCC has a great network, but they still have some 1x only areas. I think they just got 3G in St. Louis on USCC about six months ago! S4GRU Member, Digiblur, has a website where he posts info about PRL's: http://www.batonrougebroadband.info/ He is currently on vacation, so he will not likely post anything about the new PRL's for awhile. I use his analysis when deciding about PRL's. And then I hunt down the downloads for them on the internet and install. Robert
  17. There will be LTE service in the SF Valley at market launch. And from there, coverage will grow more and more every week until the entire market gets completed. Robert
  18. I always expected it to be referenced covertly or not at all. Since they never disclosed the issue and try to mask it with blocking, I expected this. However, we don't know with 100% certainty a fix is in this OTA. Robert via Samsung Galaxy S-III 32GB using Forum Runner
  19. by Robert Herron Sprint 4G Rollout Updates Wednesday, July 11, 2012 - 7:03 AM MDT The next market in our Network Vision/LTE deployment schedule update series is...Long Island. Which I like to pronounce Lawn Guy-land. But I digress...the Long Island market has yet to be announced by Sprint, and may not be announced until as late as this Fall. The Sprint Long Island market encompasses Nassau and Suffolk counties. This includes the cities of Hempstead, Levittown, Garden City, West Babylon, Freeport, Hicksville, Valley Stream, Islip, Long Beach, Huntington Station, Massapequa, Happaugue, the Hamptons and Montauk. Sprint's Network Vision OEM Alcatel/Lucent is scheduled to begin mobilizing their subcontractors around the market in November.
