Call first or go to the AT&T corporate store nearest you. Ask for the stand alone iPad plan for $20 a month with unlimited data. It was originally designed to be an add on to single line phone plans but is simply usable with only an IMEI and a credit check. I just used the IMEI of the iPad they had in the store. If this does not work Best Buy may have this option. If you also like, Jim over at LTEfix knows a guy that can help you out.

The mobley option is now unattainable, the unlimited RV plan is toasted, and the new connected car modem plan is like 30 or 40 bucks stand alone. This is the way to go if you do not have post paid service already and If you do, well I believe you can just add an iPad line like this.

I've been through two sets of LM960/CBA850 since this. First one was for a family member and another sold to a fren. They work great via PoE to an NEMA rated outdoor box. I used a pair of -15 dB xpol antenna tuned to 1.7-2.7GHz, LMR400 coax, assorted cable mounts and plungers for the plumbing to keep everything tight through wind and rain.

Ok.. I thought your final design was the H721 unit. 

Can you provide more details on the LM960/CBA850 build. In addition what xpol antenna did you use?  

I just purchased today a XPOL-2-5G Poynting Antenna for a setup I'm working on. I have one of the older model of the Pepwave MAX HD2 unit in which I recently upgraded one of the LTE modems (the unit has 2) in the unit to a Sierra Wireless EM7565 LTE CAT-12 modem. The Pepwave firmware is able to recognize the modem. In addition, I also tried the EM7511 LTE CAT-12 modem in the unit and it recognized that modem as well. The results are better than the CAT-3 modem that was in the unit. However, I think I can get better results with the Poynting MIMO antenna.

I'm curious on your feedback on my setup and whether or not there is a better build option out there. I willing to spend the money and time to create a new build if necessary. I got most of my parts from LTEFix. Those guys are awesome.

This is just like the previous Poynting except they added 3GHz support. Good antenna to catch C-band's lower channels with, such as CBRS.

Any comments on the design I posted with the Pepwave unit? 

I'm open for building a better design.

I am not familiar with the Pepwave, but updating the radio is a good start. Look for deals to update your other one I suppose. I can't say enough positive about 4x4 MiMo on midband given the right environment. I will look at your hardware more today and see if I can offer you any input. Radios are kind of flux right now since we are peaking on LTE, I am working on getting some 5G radios from China as soon as that place stops exploding with virus, they would come with a Cat 22 LTE radio underneath the 5G New Radio radio.

Any of the radios from Telit like the LM960 and up are going to be good, their FN980 is just now getting to engineering samples being dispersed. The upcoming EM20 from Quectel is going to be pretty sweet. I have been building out a lot of those lately with the engineering version, a fren has a peak speed of close to 385Mb p/s using Sprint with one sitting in an ZBT WG3526 router, over PoE. 4x MiMo and 3 carrier aggregation.

Ok.. Thanks for your insight. I'm not sure if the firmware in the Pepwave will recognize the Telit and Quectel EM20G LTE modems. I think it only recognizes the Sierra Wireless LTE modems.

What is the best place online to purchase the telit LM960 LTE modem? I guess it won't hurt to see if the Pepwave unit recognizes the modem.

The Pepwave MAX HD2 unit has 4 LTE antenna connections on the back that can be rerouted to connect to a single 4X4 MIMO CAT-18 LTE modem. I just need the current Pepwave firmware to recognize the LM960 LTE modem. I got a plan for the 4 antenna connections.

Cradlepoint uses their own version of the 960, they call it the lp1200 or something I think. If yours is compatible with that you should be good to go.

I use 2 of those 2 port or xpol ones I linked earlier.

The one guy I know that makes a 4x MiMo antenna lives in China and he probably can't ship much right now since his whole block is locked down.

I received the Telit LM960 LTE modem today. Installed the modem in my Pepwave MAX HD2 unit and it recognized the modem. The firmware of the modem is version 32.00.41. In addition, I got the XPOL-2-5G Poynting 2x2 MIMO Antenna today as well. Connected it to the Cellular 1 Main and Cellular 1 Diversity ports on the Pepwave and I'm getting 4 bars out of 5 bars. Preliminary testing with the antenna inside is good but not great. Will conduct more testing tomorrow and the weekend with the antenna positioned outside.

The MHF4 cables are connected to the Primary 0 and Primary 1 connector on the LM960 modem.

Anything you recommend that I do different?  So out of three modems I currently have (Sierra Wireless EM7511, Sierra Wireless  EM7565, and Telit LM960), which modem is the best?

I want to make sure I have the latest hardware version of the LM960 modem. According to Pepwave, the firmware version is 32.00.41 and hardware version 1. I am curious if there is a newer hardware version and newer firmware version for this modem.

In addition, do I need to make any configuration change on the modem via the AT commands?

Hook up all four ports and it will fly on 1.7GHz and above. 4x2 MiMo and all

There is the 1000 model, and the A18 model. The only difference is A18 currently comes with 4x4 MiMo on the second carrier as well, but it is interband only e.g. Band 41+41, Band 2+2, Band 25+25. I believe only engineering samples are out. The 1000 model will get this as well. Telit has not updated the firmware since it came out last year.

Only if you want a specific frequency or set of frequencies. Other wise the network will place you where it wants.

    • Probably a lot of Midwest towers. Slight bias since Nebraska is a weird market, but there are tons of USCC sites that T-Mobile isn't yet co-located on. Think a similar situation in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri. But some other markets, like yours, probably don't have that issue!
    • Sticky Customers - YES, and leave them flip to the T-Mobile PLMN when needed and they will be even more likely to Stick.
    • It seems to me that if the goal is to improve rural, the US Cellular buy-out would get them only part of the way there, considering there are plenty of rural areas that US Cellular does not serve.  But I also have a hard time reading it the way I think that article is, that the cost of this deal comes straight out of the $9 billion.  I mean, they're getting spectrum for their existing operations in US Cellular markets, including places that I wouldn't call rural.  (Roanoke, VA is the 9th largest city in the state, for example.)  It seems like some of it should be allocated to rural expansion, but certainly not the whole purchase price. There's also something to be said for getting the customer base of potentially sticky customers who have been used to US Cellular being the only game in town for potentially decades. - Trip
    • T-Mobile has stated 15% of their sites don't have 5g triband. In WV I know WISPs had a lot of 2.5GHz, but T-Mobile was trying to buy as much as possible. More rural FWA would be a big selling point that might overcome any soft bandwidth cap slight overages. Especially since UScellular likely started offering it on c-band.
