Sister's Phone Hacked

So I was told my sister's htc phone was hacked and apple pay was put on it. Does anyone know how that is possible to get apple pay on a non-apple phone?

It is possible if she downloads apps from outside the store that those apps can download other things. Just because an app says it's apple pay and looks like apple pay does not mean it is apple pay.

She didn't download Apple pay though, that's the interesting thing. Though I bet she downloaded some malicious software and that is how a hacker got access.

She needs to factory reset her phone. As long as the bootloader is locked, a factory reset should do the trick.

Are they sure it isn't Android Pay?  Might have been pushed to the phone by Google/HTC.

It also might be a malicious app disguised to look like and perhaps function like Apple pay. It probably wouldn't be very effective being called something like "Android or apple pay financial credentials stealer ".

Most likely case is that Google Wallet automatically updated to Android Pay, which will happen on any phone with automatic updates enabled in the Play Store. It happened on the HTC EVO 4G LTE, HTC One M7, HTC One M8, and HTC One M9 in my household.
