LG G5 User Thread (LG-LS992)

I was a bit apprehensive of updating after I read this, but I finally had the time and ran it today - thus far on mine, if anything the system seems even slightly snappier overall than before the update.

The only negative to me is the new way notifications are rendered on the pulldown in 7/Nougat - I do like the 'grouped' notification aspect on something like Score or ESPN apps from a functional perspective, but the overall presentation look versus how they looked in Marshmallow I don't really care for.

Sorry, I should have followed up and said that it did clear up after a few hours and get back to normal.  If it's snappier, I can't really tell.

I do agree that I don't like the appearance now and prefer the old look.

Not sure I like the new notifications either. It doesn't seem to keep SCP at the top.

Yeah, my big problem is that when it's plugged in, the USB mode selector is at the top notification now instead of the bottom.

EDIT:  And, of course, it now has made a liar out of me.  It was definitely at the top the other day, and now it's at the bottom.  SCP was definitely not at the top though.

You can go into the Android settings for SCP (App Info) and change the notification priority to keep it always at the top. I do the opposite with Tapatalk notifications, putting them always at the bottom and keeping the icon from cluttering up my status bar.

I also didn't like the new notifications on N at first, but they grow on you eventually.

I never have issues with anything. Maybe I'm just the lucky one , until now. Everytime I open up Chrome I'm like I've got the weirdest ping issue ever. Just checking in to see if anyone's having a slow issue going. To. I do have a hundred megabit connection where I do love just so you all know. Just give me your thoughts please thank you

I don't actually see a notification priority setting in the LG menu. Just an option to show or block notifications.

Have not seen this issue. I have Chrome open all the time refreshing weather pages and whatnot. Work WiFi, home WiFi and Sprint LTE no issues.

I know there might be something on the back in that you guys might say. Honestly though I'm used to less than 10 and this is running as extender for my internet to my Kodi box. If you guys don't know anything about a Kodi box you better run I figured that one out

You'd need to be a computer to tell the difference between a ping of 10 and 14ms. So, currently I am not sure what the issue is. It does not appear to be a device issue though.

Oops, I forgot you have to turn on System UI Tuner, then go into Other, Power Notification Controls, and toggle it on.

Seriously - I don't care what he's running, complaining about a 14ms ping is about like going to Ethiopia and complaining that you only have half a jar of Grey Poupon to compliment your 7 course filet minon dinner.

System UI Tuner? Maybe I'm just missing it but I've never heard of that setting.

I'm pretty sure the System UI Tuner is not available on the LG G5.

Anyone else gotten a System Update notification?  I do as of the past 10-15 minutes, but the official Sprint page doesn't list anything new yet:

https://support.sprint.com/support/article/Find-and-update-the-software-version-on-your-LG-G5/WServiceAdvisory_542_GKB95144-dvc10200007prd?INTNAV=SU:DP:OV:UG:LgG5:FindAndUpdateTheSoftwareVersionOnYourLgG5

Wondering if this might be the update to enable HPUE.

What version and what features or fixes?

No clue, I haven't installed it yet.   And again, Sprint hasn't updated the site to indicate anything regarding a new update.

Edit:  A search on XDA seems to indicate the new version would be ZV9:

Most likely monthly security patches. HPUE isn't something that can just be enabled. It will only be on new flagships later this year.

OK, I may be thinking of 3xCA then and got my wires crossed - I remembered something that was going to be enabled via an update on the G5 the first half of this year anyway.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
