http://www.phonearena.com/news/Preliminary-results-for-Sprints-third-quarter-show-30000-net-additions-to-postpaid-accounts_id64537

The bulk of the carrier's net additions was in the wholesale (527,000) and pre-paid (410,000) side of the business. The postpaid net additions, where all of the cheesecake is, came out to a rather pedestrian 30,000. Compare that to T-Mobile, which announced this morning that it added 1.3 million post paid accounts during the quarter.

Said they had most people join in 3 years. Just can't keep people from leaving.

Well, 30k is their best quarter in years. You can't turn the ship around overnight. This is great news!

Get off the magenta bandwagon...

And in bigger news....If my math is correct then T-Mo failed to take over the third spot.

When you combine pre and post paid, Sprint had a net positive port ratio from T-Mobile as well!

No matter how you slice it, this is a big improvement for Sprint. The old declining trends are over. They have turned a corner. Now Marcelo just needs to improve quarter after quarter. This is good news.

I'm confused as to why the stock price isn't going up. It's basically under performing the market, so while it's green - the news is overall hurting the stock rather than helping it.

Shhhhh. Don't tell any of "them" over at fierce wireless, even though I am sure they read here too. They will say that there are no signs of improvement and sprint is still in the ditch and only sinking further into the muck.

This is not going to be enough to lift the stock. The issues that Sprint has that is causing the stock decline the past few months have not gone away. Plus, this is the news that was expected by investors. So it was already baked in the numbers.

  • About 1,000,000 net adds for quarter
  • 400,000 prepaid adds - Sprint Prepaid started very strongly
  • ARPU is still high, highest projected profit per customer ever on new business
  • Churn rate decreasing, but still higher than he wants
  • 50% of new phone sales either lease or installment
  • Port postive for quarter vs Verizon and AT&T (no more stealing Sprint customers easy)
  • Port postive vs T-mobile on prepaid
  • Cash position too high, may buy back debt to decrease interest costs
  • Cut your bill in Half promotion wildly successful, extended through end of 2015
  • Huge advertising focus this year on letting every Verizon and AT&T customer know they can come to Sprint anytime and cut their bill in half
  • Finding new ways to ease back on credit requirements to serve sub-prime market outside of prepaid
  • As leased phone turned in for upgrades, Brightstar will resell and keep in Sprint service
  • Network focus on quality in any remaining trouble areas before growth, 800 MHz a focus
  • Acquisitions of new distributors a focus in 2015

Other companies are adding 1 million + customers during the same period. So while it is a big improvement for Sprint to not be negative, relative to their main competitors it is pretty weak.

At the least Sprint is meeting network targets, and word is spreading slowly that networks are improving. That helps, but I would also like to see Sprint start stripping the duopoly more, specifically AT&T.

I am a big advocate of this. I have held the belief that Big Blue is far more vulnerable then Big Red.

The only time I'm not covered with LTE in St. Louis is when I'm in the middle of my office or at a large event, concert, etc. (but I expect that to get better with futures deployments).

Contrast that with a year ago? It's ridiculous how far we've come.
