Network Vision/LTE - Upper Central Valley Market (Sacramento, Stockton, Redding, Eureka & Reno/Lake Tahoe)

Had some 4G teases in Rancho around Zinfandel and 50. About time! I've had a WIMAX or LTE phone since they first came out and have never seen anything before. The signal was weak, but just to see the 4G logo got me excited.

I'm hoping the signal will get into Chili's or Cordova Casino. Currently I have pretty much NO signal. The phone just goes in and out of roaming, voice and data, but neither works. I'm usually having to tether on my friends Verizon phones. Lame!

I'll so some Sensorly drives and see if I can gather a bit more data.

Oh my god, the signal in Chili's is non-existent! When I was over at the tower by the footbridge near the Zinfandel exit yesterday, the Sprint panels looked the same size as the AT&T panels. Are all the 4g LTE panels the same size regardless if carrier?

I have a screenshot of my LTE signal via Sensorly, but I can't link it from Dropbox without the site getting grumpy at me.

They're about the same size. Big difference is the remote radio units located next to them that dictate the frequencies in addition to 6 antenna ports on the bottom compared to the 4 that everyone else have. In our market, ATT uses Ericsson while Sprint uses Samsung.

See the following to identify Samsung gear.

Well I drove around Rancho, south of 50 after work with Sensorly, and not even a blip of 4G, I guess they are just getting stuff ready for us.

techiegirl, It's funny that you know what I am talking about at Chili's. It is so embarrassing for Sprint. I wish I could find a Sprint exec. and have them explain why there is no signal in the hub of new Rancho.

I go have dinner in there every now and then and if I want to look something up or even check in on Foursquare, it's a lost cause. Great restaurant, horrible Sprint service. They should throw a tower on top of the tower of the park that is right behind Lowe's...

I'm guessing its hard for the permits to go through since Rancho has a lot of industry there.

So by August can we expect LTE east of Roseville?

Can you be more specific with east? Like Granite bay east or just across the highway?

Well... practically every cell site east of Roseville in unincorporated Sacramento county has building permits issued for Sprint contractors as seen in this preview of my upper central valley permit map which one can access via the sponsor forums. Expecting a good push by contractors in the coming weeks so it's a good possibility.

Full information on who is doing the work, what work is being done, exact addresses, and other misc. information is available to sponsors.

Like the greater Sacramento, woodland, Davis area. I just have a feeling of guilt, as I somewhat forced my family to get Sprint; and now all of them are having poor call quality and atrocious data. I kept promising them it'll change but it's a hard thing to bear, especially when none of them actually use their unlimited data (or for the most part are able to)

The Tower that you are talking about along highway 50 by the footbridge between Zinfandel and Mather Exit's has not had any work done on it yet. There are two carriers on this tower. T-Mobile is on the top with (6) Brand New Erricson AIR Antennas and Sprint is right below with (3) White Legacy 3G Panels. This tower is also not configured for range...that is why the signal in Chili's is low. Alot of the bigger buildings in Rancho block signal from the highway 50 tower. The tower that serves the Chili's your talking about is over off Kilgore/WhiteRock right at Sprint's Corporate Office...this tower has not had upgrades done yet either. The Tower in Rancho that currently has 4G In Progress work is at the intersection of Coloma Rd and McGregor Dr..look it up on Google Maps. Sprint is on the very top of this tower.

I drove by the corporate office yesterday on my way home from work and couldn't see anything due to all of the trees around the building. Not that I'm complaining at all, I'm a fan of the greenery. I didn't go into the parking lot at all. But that tower I think is the tower that services my house also, so I'd love for that one to start having work done. I imagine it will start in the next few months, though, with all of the work being done in the market.

It was my understanding that AT&T had the top of the tower at the footbridge, but I do know that Sprint is the lower three panels for sure.

Maybe someone else can clarify or I can get a picture of this tower I believe the 6 antenna's are the Erricson AIR Antennas which is what T-Mobile is using.

Just did a bunch of Sensorly mapping in Rocklin. On another note I got a job at the Best Buy in Roseville, acroos from the Galleria Mall, as a Mobile Sales Consultant so feel free to come and see me. I should start working in store in about 2 weeks, my name is Jason and I will be the big bald guy with a beard :)

It's T-mobile ericsson AIR 21's up on the top rack.

I knew it! Then Sprint right below with good ol' Legacy 3G panels. Still no work on this tower yet. I drive by this tower nearly every day on the way to work. Hey lilotimz..you have any news on the tower off Walerga/Elverta? Whether Sprint is the Stealth Tower by the High School or the Tree tower over on Walerga? Any updates on permits for these possible two locations?

Nothing on the one in garbo yet. The stealth pole at the park by the fire station doesn't show up online.

99% sure the tree tower is Sprint.

    • Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.
    • 5G in the U.S. – Additional Mid-band Spectrum Driving Performance Gains T-Mobile holds on to it's lead in 5G Speed
    • Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.
    • Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.
    • Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
