The Signal bars on the Viper represent LTE signal over 1x, just like it does for 3g.

How can you tell? Almost every time LTE is strong, so is 1x.

Earlier i had a 1x signal of -85 and an LTE signal of -106, and my signal strength indicator showed no bars.

-106dBm RSRP should not be zero bars. Not even close. Sounds like your device is wonky.

I'm thinking so too.

Do yu have any idea when sprint will release ics

They started the release of ICS for the Viper on November 1st. It takes approximately 2 weeks for an update push to be completed. If you want to update manually, you can do so with this post on Android Central.

If you rooted your phone, you have to use the un-brick method that was also posted at Android Central, located here.

If I was booted into Windows, I would do what I can to help you. Try searching through the thread over there, if not, ask user tommyjoesanders.

I forced the update the day it came out and have had no problems with it. I enjoy it thouroughly. I have not had any of the battery issues that others complain about. I use juice defender and with mild use my battery lasts a day and a half. the actual only problem i have had with the phone are a lack of LTE. It is currently being put up in ky where i got the phone but then my job transfered me to utah which has no estimate date for coverage. Would really like to see jb on this fun it could handle it and would be a good long term answer with it.

I was able to confirm that the LG Viper does show the 4G LTE signal strength now that it has ICS update.

Do you guys think I should pick up a used Viper to play with until my contract is up in June? I am on the NS4G, we are finally getting some LTE here in Charlotte and I want to start driving around and doing speed tests. I'd feel vaguely guilty going backwards to ICS from JB, but judging by the screenshots you all have put up it looks pretty nice after the update. (Except Josh, that font is hideous.)

Yes!

They are fairly reasonable in the secondary market and not a bad little phone.

That same font is on the Galaxy S III, but I liked it when I had my Viper. Right now I have a Galaxy Nexus.
