No I mean if the user have wifi connection I don't care what signal I am getting from sprint as long as I get my calls. When I am nowhere near wifi is where I would like the phone to realize a weak 1-2 bars LTE connection is better than a 3g connection at full bars. That is where a 3g off toggle would be useful.

Gotcha. In that scenario battery life takes priority over performance. Full bars are better for battery life so...there you go.

Sweet! Did you just start picking up a LTE signal or have you had it for awhile?

 

I didn't get it until I turned off wifi ... the two places where I would check both have a good wifi connection. Apparently this precluded me from getting 4G. Or maybe they just turned 4G LTE on at 6PM. :-)

Yeah...if you don't turn off Sprint Optimization in settings then your GS3 will use wifi instead of 3G/4G if your around a wifi access point. Whats the closest intersection where you ran your test?

Neese Road, north of GA92, south of Arnold Mill.

 

I just checked and couldnt find any completed sites close to that area...but your obviously getting an LTE signal. Maybe the completed sites map is missing a few sites...either that or LTE can just travel a very long way. There might be hope for me yet...

There is a tower very near me that was on the LTE map here ... but I could not tell if it was turned on, as far as the info on this site was concerned. I can tell you I am getting a very strong signal. I'm lovin' it.

I'm in cumming and no 4g here yet. i have tried turning off wifi, and rebooting a few times throughout the day, have yet to see 4G.

Yea of course. I've done just about everything (updated profile, Cdma/LTE mode, rebooted, flashed back to a stock rom, cm9, jelly bean, aokp). If anyone here has a Galaxy Nexus, what radio and PRL are you using?

 

Right now, my radio is FD02, PRL is 25003, and it says network type is CDMA eHRPD:14...not sure if any of that matters, though.

I dont think any of that matters...stock...rooted....its the towers...they are not unblocked. I got 4G a few weeks ago but today...nada. To make sure that it wasnt a stock vs. root issue I even went to a sprint store close to me to check LTE and no LTE signal on any of the LTE capable devices. I think its simply on in certain spots and not in others. If I leave my phone off for a minute or two and turn it back on I can get 4G (1 bar) but it disappears in a few secs.

 

BTW - the latest prl is 25005 I believe...although that wont do anything in terms of getting you an LTE signal.

I live in woodstock and haven't seen anything all day. Drove all the way to Carrollton this morning, through Kennesaw and Marietta this afternoon, and didn't ever have any LTE service.

Think they are still tinkering with towers because I was only getting 3-4 bars 4g outside my house earlier today now getting full bars and fastest speeds I have seen being reported in Atlanta area. I am impressed. Again I am 4 miles south of Palmetto in Coweta county. 425767e2-7dca-c2fe.jpg

I finally done my HTCDev thing as I cant wait for LazyPanda. Before was stock and now in cook rom and I still get 4G.

Ok...so I just got off the phone with sprint and was told that all of the towers within 2 miles of my home (a total of 3) have been completed and are operating at 98% efficiency...I even drove to one of the towers the rep mentioned and practically stood in front of it...91% signal strength....nada. Earlier I drove to the sprint store (2-3) miles from house and none of the LTE devices could find an LTE signal. They tried refreshing my data profile, PRL, phone settings but nothing works so im still stuck on 3G. They opened a ticket to dispatch a tech to check/test those towers ... said to check back in 24hrs. Good to know that the towers are up (according to them)...we shall see.

I drove from Roswell, through Downtown, below the airport, & back up along West 285 this afternoon. Got nothing but 3G except for 4G LTE from 1 tower (somewhere near Cumberland Mall, I thnk).

After looking at the completed network vision map found on this website and my own experience driving around looking for coverage I'd say the Atlanta market launched with >15% completion.

 

You aren't far off, according to Robert's calculation as of July 9th.

This reminds me a lot of my WiMax experience with the first EVO. I work in downtown Atlanta and much like the first EVO, yesterday I didn't get a whiff of LTE. Drove from downtown, north to Buford, not once did 4G popup. I've rebooted, PRL,ed etc...and now I'm gettin pissed. How do they actually charge us extra for this? I'll be dropping by my store today.

      I think the push for them is adding US Mobile as a MVNO with a priority data plan.  Ultimately, making people more aware of priority would allow them (and other carriers) to differentiate themselves from MVNOs like Consumer Cellular that advertise the same coverage. n77 has dramatically reduced the need for priority service at Verizon where the mere functioning of your phone was in jeopardy a couple of years ago if you had a low priority plan like Red Pocket. Only have heard of problems with T-Mobile in parts of Los Angeles. AT&T fell in between. All had issues at large concerts and festivals, or sporting events if your carrier has no on-site rights. Edit: Dishes native 5g network has different issues: not enough sites, limited bandwidth. Higher priority would help a few. Truth is they can push phones to AT&T or T-Mobile.

      Tracfone AT&T sims went from QCI 8 to 9 as well a couple years ago. I'm pretty neutral towards AT&T's turbo feature here, the only bad taste left was for those who had unadvertised QCI 7 a couple months ago moved down to 8. In my eyes it would have been a lot better for AT&T to include turbo in those Premium/Elite plans for free to keep them at QCI 7, while also introducing this turbo add on option for any other plans or devices. As it stands now only a handful of plans can add it, and only if you're using a device on a random list of devices AT&T considers to be 5G smartphones.

      My Red Pocket AT&T GSMA account was dropped to QCI 9 about a year ago.  Most recently 8 for the last few years prior.  Voice remains at 5.

Based on how I was treated with my Credit Limit, it's definitely not the same company it was before the merger, and it's entirely possible they'd try it.
