Except for the occasional bluetooth hiccups and lost data connectivity when switching between towers. Don't get me wrong, Deck's ROM became more usable for me once he managed to fix the reversed microphone bug that forced you to use only the noise canceling microphone with Google Now. However, bluetooth and mobile connectivity are two big issues CM10 has yet to fully squash on the Evo 4G LTE. IMO, right now for the best Jellybean experience you can't beat a stock ROM.

Actually I dumped CM10 because it's not yet 100% stable. There's nothing wrong with the stock rom.

I can already tell an improvement with the updated radio firmware alone. I use to never get 4G in my office. Now it's at least attempting to connect. The signal is -122db and it comes and goes, but that's something I've never seen the Evo 4G LTE do in my office before! Improvements!

You'll have to download a rooted rom that doesn't check for Sprints locked Recovery or Boot sectors. XDA will have such versions of the rom available to be flashed from TWRP by the end of the day.

I wouldn't be so fast to jump on the CM10 praise bandwagon. I found the rom to be littered with annoying glitches such as the microphone used for recording is the noise canceling microphone located on the top of the device. To fix this you have to flash another file which breaks the devices A2DP bluetooth audio streaming abilities. There's the random data connection drop outs and the decreased battery life. There's something to be said for sticking to the stock roms. At least the software engeners that created them had to go through various levels of testing and actually had the OEM partner support for the chipsets that make up the working components of these complex devices.

I think the new treads title is a violation of the sites terms of service.

I second your advise about not renewing a contract right now. I'm on the fence myself and with T-Mobile offering unlimited data next year I may fall into their yard.

I wasn't impressed with the build quality of the S3 either. Despite its ability to handle LTE better it wasn't worth being locked into a device I wasn't fully happy with for two years. I returned it and went back to my limp Evo LTE.

Yeah, I think my Evo was just on a roll connecting to towers for the past few days. Driving home from downtown Atlanta this evening I never once connected to 4G. I suppose it was a fluke occurrence. Back to the drawing board! Hopefully we'll see a Jellybean update within the next two weeks that'll include a LTE fix.

I've started to notice that when the Evo LTE has the Wi-Fi radio enabled and set to constantly scan for open access points the device connects to LTE more reliably. Not to say it improves signal strength, but it appears the device seeks LTE signal and connects more often compared to having Wi-Fi scanning turned off. Just pure conjecture here, although if true is it possible somebody at HTC goofed the radio firmware.

Killing the RTSP server will cause streaming applications not to work on your device. Sprint wont funnel data from high bandwidth consumption sites i.e. Youtube, Pandora unless the data is compressed and funneled though their proxy server.

If Sense bothers you why not mask it with another launcher. Nova Launcher offers AOSP performance and styling.

On that note, downtown Atlanta could use more LTE signal love. I have to go outside and climb a tree to find signal downtown.

Since I decided to send back the SGIII I've been forcing the EvoLTE into CDMA/LTE only mode from the ##DATA# menu. I also went into the LTE record and increased the LTE scan timer to 60. Thus far my 4G coverage has been great! Every bit as prevalent as it was with the SGIII. The only drawback is when you leave a 4G coverage area you're stuck on 1xRTT but thats a small price to pay when even a weak 4GLTE signal gives me 2Mbps speeds. This workaround will do until Sprint/HTC fixes things.

I performed test with the EvoLTE in both normal "CDMA HDR LTE" mode and in "LTE Only" mode. In CDMA HDR LTE mode the EvoLTE switched to 3G mode long before the GSIII lost 4G signal generally around -124db however I was able pull usable speeds from the GSIII at that time. With the EvoLTE in "LTE only" mode the device maintained its connection significantly longer. Not as long as the GSIII but by time the EvoLTE lost signal altogether the connection on the GSIII was unable to produce speed test results nor connect to the internet. That was my observation.

My SGSIII arrived last Thursday and I've finally had an opportunity to run both the SGSIII and EvoLTE side-by-side throughout metro Atlanta. My test are inline to simular reports that the SGSIII maintains a LTE connection for approx half-a-mile further from the transmitting tower than the EvoLTE. The SGSIII would search for signal and obtain signal faster than the EvoLTE although my test with changing the LTE scan timer setting in the ##data# LTE Records menu were inconclusive. When the EvoLTE was placed in LTE only mode the device would still loose its connection prior to the SGSIII switching to 3G. Although there's a caveat in this situation. On the extreme fringe of LTE coverage while the SGSIII maintained a connection, it was extremely unstable and unable to produce speedtest. This lends me to believe that the EvoLTE radio is somewhat the weaker of the two devices however its current shortcomings could be fixed via software updates to the radio as others have suggested. Now I'm confident enough in this theory to return the SGSIII to Amazon and continue using the EvoLTE... at least until the next Nexus device comes out. ;-)

I might be able to perform some test around metro Atlanta this weekend comparing the two devices. My SGIII from Amazon should be here tomorrow. I'd like to sell the EVO LTE 4G before its aftermarket value tanks.

Evo 4G LTE's are going for about $300 should you decide to sale it secondhand. Amazon Wireless has the Galaxy S3 upgrade for $149.99. Seems like a no brainer to me. Yelling at Sprint to fix it feels like a waste of energy when their engineers were aware of the LTE radio defect before the device shipped.

This is too disconcerting for me, I'm trading up for a Samsung GSIII. I've been impatient enough waiting for Sprints LTE rollout in Atlanta and now that I'm starting to see speckling of signal around town I'm left with a crippled device that struggles to connect and even maintain a 4G connection. It's maddening... and I thought life with my Photo 4G was bad. If only I held on longer to my WiMax devices! My device has the 1.12 hboot and is currently in S-Off mode so it should be highly desirable on eBay. Look for it next week. HA!
