  1. I went to Brooklyn Heights yesterday and while all the sites in the area are upgraded, I got kicked down to Band 26 in some areas and it was borderline unusable. Google Maps automatically switched to offline mode and Snapchat messages took several tries before they went through. There are small cell sin the neighborhood but I'm pretty sure that they are all Verizon's. I was really surprised because pretty much everywhere else I go in Brooklyn, the network is flying. Even Band 26 in Crown Heights is a solid 7Mbps in the middle of the day.

Pretty much my scenario in Red Hook Brooklyn near Ikea for some strange reason and around Queens Hospital in HIllcrest Queens. Borderline unusable.

From what I hear its in self optimizing phase. Give it a couple weeks. It will tune itself.

From your lips to the Tower Gods, may it be so.

  2. I got the call Tuesday evening. She said I was approved and it will be shipping in 8-12 weeks.

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

I wonder if the call is from one place/area code or numerous places. I usually do not answer calls that I do not know the number but have since placing my order. And so far the calls coming in are not Sprint but telemarketers. arrgghh.

  3. Mergers, Alliances and Acquisitions Oh My!

When the merger between Sprint and t-mobile come to pass it is clear that Johnny Boy legere will not be running the company and maybe just head of marketing. That is a great thing.

    http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2017/05/10/softbank-sprint-t-mobile-merger-talks-masayoshi.html

Source? That link does not mention who would be heading such a possible merger.

If Sprint buys out T-Mobile, the only job there suitable for John Legere, will be one where he makes sure there always is a sparkling clean shine on the executive toilets at the Sprint headquarters.

Damn. That's totally uncalled for and low. Even for Legere haters.

Hate him or love him... His results speak for themselves... On a side note. Damn, I hate haters. Dudes practically a legend. What he did with T-Mobile was phenomenal. For God sakes, Son and Legere have a relationship that dates way back.

"Common fucking sense ain't too common"

A legend, I don't think so. Maybe in his own mind, but I agree that his results and bringing the company to where it is at is impressive.

As for the relationship of him and Son going way back. That's news to me. The one that I thought had a long time relationship with Son was with Dan Hesse and that didn't save him from continuing being CEO (among other factors).

  4. Open Mobile. Use the name from the Puerto Rico Company they purchased. They have a great logo too!

    Logo looks nice,

I'm thinking if they ever are going to change the name, then make it reference the main asset they have. Spectrum. But since Charter has a hold on it, I figure maybe something along those lines.

Spectre, Spectracom, Continuum, Gigacom come to mind. Or just leave it since who ever takes over will change it to whatever suits them anyway.

  5. I don't get the demonization of NIMBYs. People have every right to protect their property and anything that could lower the property value/attractiveness. Wireless carriers need to do a better job of hiding their equipment and meeting zoning/HOA rules if they want to do business in that area. When I build a house, I don't go crazy and build a 5 story apartment in the middle of a suburban residential neighborhood! I follow the rules set in place and pay all necessary permits. Why should carriers play by different rules?

The other side of the coin is noted, but If I am going to find a house to live in, I would like to have cell service, cable service etc. Be it provided by a pole, tower or a dish. Without it, in my opinion, brings down the value of the area.

Not sure if you have watched the townhall meetings posted here about the small cells. Health is one of the top reasons people state as the reasons they don't want towers in the area. Looks are one of the reasons but even when it is pointed out that the meetings are about setting rules for small cells looks people go on about it doesn't matter what they look like because they would still be "bad" for health reasons.

Probably the same folks complaining that are living near a high voltage tower that brings in the electricity to power up that microwave for their tv dinner. Health reason be damned as long as I have my MTV and Microwave.

  6. Also Magic Box is a great way to get a round town rules about no towers or no small cell sites. They still need that backhaul site for the Magic Boxes but no need to pay a town 1000+ dollars a year for small cells. Crossing my fingers they have the same reach out side as a strong wifi hotspot (~300ft).

^ This is where I see the most benefit for both sides, company and consumer. Those NIMBY folks can suck it.

  7. I'll check today to see if it drains, I had the phone off yesterday after the update since I was in the movie theater doing the Guardians of the Galaxy double feature and then went straight home to bed.

If it doesn't solve it I just might install the lite apps mentioned in this article, since most of them are the ones that drain more battery juice.

  8. Maybe because of recent threads like the "Long Time User Thread" or "Time Past Remembrance" Threads, I started getting this nostalgic feeling of the begin times in S4GRU.

So I figure I'll do a Throw Back Thursday thread S4GRU style and post up a link to a post/thread that I posted that I am fond of.

So go ahead and post up your favorite post/thread link.

here is mine. (just click on the image for thread)

  9.

Now you know, you just became a small cell location.

Awesome, since the Airave is a mini cell/site booster, I guess I can now put house makers on our maps. :)

So I thought Marcelo had his bonus in the bag, but if the stock closes below $8 today then it appears that gets put on hold. Currently it is at $7.96. Tomorrow would have been the day he would be able to receive the bonus since the stock has been above $8 since December 5th. Also did they even mention Tidal today in the earnings? Seems odd that there hasn't been any talk about Tidal after acquiring a sizeable stake in the company.

    Damn, that sucks for him.
