  1. I've noticed in the Hickory, Newton and Conover area that I'm connecting to Carolina West Wireless for 1XRTT and EV-DO Rev A. I can still connect to Sprint LTE though. Is anyone aware of something going on with Sprint in this area? I just find it interesting that this is going on today. I'm grateful that we can use Carolina West Wireless as native coverage. They have higher ping times on EV-DO, but definitely better speeds than we've had on Sprint.
  2. The Weather Channel app is notorious for keeping the GPS turned on, even when you haven't opened the app. I often find my battery down to 14% by 9pm and that is due to The Weather Channel using 40+% of the battery due to the GPS being locked on. I've finally given up on TWC as they can't seem to fix that bug, yet they redesigned the app to look "pretty." I want the GPS on for the rest of my apps, so turning it off just for TWC isn't going to happen.
  3. For even more flexibility, check out this CLA (Cigarette Lighter Adapter) with two USB ports I picked up at Lowe's this afternoon. It has two USB charging ports, one labled 1A and the other 2.1A. Here is a link: http://www.lowes.com/pd_478608-70253-AXC-DDCB-B_0__?productId=4634453&Ntt=usb+charger&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dusb%2Bcharger&facetInfo= I haven't tested it yet, but the price is right and you can use your own cable and are not limited to what type of device is charged. In a situation like mine, I have mostly Android devices using MicroUSB, but then I have my iPad 4th gen which requires a USB to Lightning port plug. This CLA is ideal as I just keep various cables in the center console. Update: Also available in White: http://www.lowes.com/pd_478600-70253-AXC-DDCW-B_0__?productId=4634443&Ntt=usb+charger&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dusb%2Bcharger&facetInfo=
  4. I've loved my Motorola Rapid Rate charger and it works very well on my HTC EVO 4G LTE, so I can't speak for Samsung devices, but I would hope it would provide enough current to charge quickly. http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehicle-Adapter-micro-USB-Charger/dp/B000S5Q9CA
  5. From The Orlando Sentinal: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/the-daily-disney/os-att-is-now-the-official-wireless-provider-for-walt-disney-world,0,520333.story "AT&T and Disney Parks today announced that the wireless provider would be the official wireless company for Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. The agreement will bring a lot of branding and marketing endeavors, of course, but it also will have a very real technological effect for AT&T users in the theme parks here in Orlando and in California. Those include: Ten cell sites across Walt Disney World Resort; more than 25 distributed antenna systems to increase wireless capacity; more than 350 so-called “small cells” to extend network connectivity; and more than 40 repeaters to boost the mobile performance for both guests and Disney cast members." It's a shame that Disney does not equally embrace all of the major wireless providers and allow similar installations for all of them. It would seem to me, from a social networking point of view, that providing access for visitors to quickly post photos and status updates would be free advertisement for Disney Parks and is limiting to only work with a single wireless service provider. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Verizon the current official wireless provider? When I was at WDW in October, 2012, many of the cast members still had Nextel devices. Does anyone have insight as to why Sprint didn't bend over backwards to accommodate the Disney Parks with devices and equipment and become the official provider?
  6. Tethering to play an XBOX? Really??? I'm not impressed. Actually I'm pissed to hear that people do this and bog down a wireless network. Have fun over on AT&T. You can blame Apple for the device not supporting SVLTE or SVDO, not Sprint. See ya!
  7. When A-L was doing NV updates to a nearby tower, my EVO LTE could not use EVDO data unless I was in CDMA Only mode. I have since switched it back to auto, but there are valid reasons during the NV rollout to make the switch to CDMA Only.
  8. Wow, sorry to hear of the accident. Sending prayers to you for a quick and full recovery!
  9. I'd love to know what is holding up the tower in Conover, NC. It's the only hold out along I-40 between Hickory and Statesville. I can see the tower from my house and no work has been on the tower itself, yet the Catawba County permit has been approved since March and modified again in May. Getting anxious for NV.
  10. I drove from Hickory, NC to Gaffney, SC this weekend. I only picked up LTE only once as I was leaving Hickory on US-321. After that, it was 3G only the entire way. I had Sensory mapping the entire time. Sprint has a bunch of coverage holes on US-321 between Hickory and Gastonia. What an nightmare. At times, I would go into roaming. Considering the tree density along that route, the 1900 tower spacing simply is too distant to be workable. Full NV upgrades can't come soon enough.
  11. SGS4, with at least 32GB, MicroSD Slot, Removable battery and Tri-Band LTE would be fantabulous!
  12. ...and 3XL and 4XL. S4GRU supporters/fans come in ALL sizes. I'll pay extra to get a heavyweight 100% cotton tee (Hanes Beefy-T, for example). I cannot stand the newer, super-thin t-shirts that stores are selling. Also, a suggestion, having a good selection of shirt colors will help drive sales. Whatever happens, please make sure we aren't restricted to black. It's too hot to wear outside in the summer! I'm in for White and Gray, maybe others, depending on availability. Great idea
  13. Thanks for the info. I thought I had viewed a Sensory thread previously and now I have the link bookmarked. Thanks everyone for the quick replies. Mods, feel free to lock this one up.
  14. I mapped some new LTE areas around Newton and Hickory, NC this past Friday and Saturday. None of the data has appeared on the Sensory maps, even though I made sure the reporting data was sent. This isn't the first time I've mapped an area and Sensory has not updated with the information. It is extremely frustrating, not to mention a waste of fuel if it's all for nothing. Are there any steps I can take to make sure the data I'm collecting will be properly uploaded to Sensorly and available on the maps in a timely manner?
  15. Now what will I do with the rest of my Friday night? Well, I guess there's always the DirecTV Cutting Edge (HD-DVR Test software) download to keep me occupied. All kidding aside, thanks for the notice.
  16. Last night, I mapped 127 (and other roads) from Hickory to Bethlehem on Sensorly. The accepted towers are live, but the coverage in this hilly terrain is not very good. I sure hope LTE on 800 will fix these issues. What has me frustrated are the numerous Verizon/AT&T towers/sites located between the few locations Sprint has service. If the Softbank deal comes through, I sure hope we see Sprint co-locate on towers/sites where the competition already has service. I can't imagine the startup costs are as great as they used to be, especially with Microwave backhaul as a viable option. Sprint could also bolster the Hickory/Lenoir/Morganton areas with a purchase of Carolina West Wireless once the Softbank dust settles.

  18. I'm happy to report that LTE is live in Claremont, NC at site: CR03AW136. The tower location is less than ideal for serving I-40 and it's range is limited as the monopole height is quite low, however I did map it w/Sensory. It seems that 1X/EVDO is off at this tower site as I was connecting to Carolina West Wireless, which shows as native Sprint coverage. Once Sprint lights up the tower in Conover, CR03AW150, we will have contiguous LTE from Hickory through Statesville on I-40, though we will continue to have some weak spots until LTE 800 comes to fruition. Here's a photo of the site, taken with my EVO 4G LTE. I really need to start carrying my Canon 40D with my 55-250mm lens in my car with me.
  19. A very Happy Birthday to you Robert. I hope you are enjoying your day with your loved ones.
  20. I had the same thing happen for three days this week. Luckily Sprint has an service agreement (shows as Sprint native) with Carolina West Wireless with 3G data, so it didn't cause any impact.
  21. Wow, OK, so Sprint must be offline on that sole tower that serves my house which is right down the road (-76 dBm typical). Thank you so much for the information. I was wondering why the CDMA Field Test App app was showing correct, spot on, tower location info when I mapped the base station. It showed me connected to the tower right next to the one Sprint is located on. Hopefully this indicates that some form of contractor work is being done at the site for NV.
  22. Last night I noticed that eHRPD disappeared from CR03AW150, which is right by my home in Conover, NC. I find this odd as the next tower along I-40 heading west is live with LTE. Would this not cause site handoff issues? Also, I noticed the SID and BID has changed. The SID is now 1522 and BID 5009. This used to be SID: 4376 and BID 347. This site has not had any tower work done as of yet, however the permits were approved on 3/7/2013 for all of the work to start. I cannot easily access the tower site to see what is going on as it's protected by an American Tower gate at the roadway. Does anyone know what may be happening at this point when the SID/BID changes?
  23. Wow, CLT is filling in nicely on Sensory, especially in just the last few weeks. I'm starting to think we will see an official launch in not so distant future. Meanwhile, I've been driving around Hickory, Newton and Conover, NC trying to map the area on Sensorly as much as possible. I've probably burned through at least a 1/3 of a tank of gas doing it, but it's worth it (in a sick, LTE addict kinda way).
  24. I ran quite a few speedtests today now that LTE is active in Hickory, NC. I found that most of my tests had ping times between 91ms and 150ms to Comcast in ATL. My fastest download speed was 9174kbps and upload was 6559kbps at -74dBm near the Newton tower. I have seen much better LTE ping times from fellow S4GRU'ers, but I'm not gonna complain. Indoors at work, LTE was between -105dBm and -118dBm and could regularly get sub 120ms, 2500-5000kbps Down/1200-5600kbps Up. I was impressed and this isn't even with the nearest tower activated. One thing I found interesting was that my Wireless Extenders (Wi-Ex) YX-500 PCS repeater, which has the omnidirectional antenna mounted rooftop, was doing a great job repeating the LTE signal. I was standing inside our server room, which is always a dead zone, and I had -85 dBm 8 feet from the repeater. I can only imagine how much better it will be once the closer tower is lit up with LTE. I was under the impression that the Wi-Ex products didn't support PCS G Block. No complaints here
  25. LTE is on in Hickory (Near I-40, Exit 126) as of this morning. Inside, I'm at -100db and getting 95ms ping, 7147kbps Down and 4942 Up. Should be showing up on Sensorly this morning. That purple blip is my place of work. I'm very, very happy!
