  1. I live in DC which doesn't have great LTE coverage yet but I had the opportunity to spend a week in Austin,TX. I was staying in an area of Austin that has had most of the sites LTE enabled so I thought it would be a good test of how the phone really performs in a fully upgraded market. I was pleasantly surprised! I had a solid 4G signal most of the time and only fell back to 3G on occasion. When it did happen to fall back to 3G, the phone had no problems switching right back to 4G when moving back to a solid signal area. The best part, I don't recall my data connection wigging out like it does back in DC. After hearing horror stories of the EVO LTE performance, if the phone performs like this in DC when the market is more filled out, I will be a happy camper.
  2. I don't see a recent apps button in image.
  3. What is with the trend of removing buttons? I want my search button back! I wonder how they plan on doing a menu and multitask button.
  4. Has anyone else had their mobile data connection hang when connected to 4G? I was at Dulles airport this past week and several times had my connection just hang. When I looked in the settings, the mobile data entry would read 'connecting...' I could toggle it on and off and it would not reestablish the connection. Airplane mode needed cycling to get the connection back. Thoughts?
  5. Robert, Do you think legacy maintenance upgrades are taking place in parallel to NV upgrades in markets like DC? Or should we expect all 'data speed upgrades' on network.sprint.com to be NV upgrades in these active areas? Thanks.
  6. Just tried the suggested maps work around by putting Nav in 2D mode and no kidding it actually worked for me. I have tried every other 'fix' with no luck until now. Your mileage may vary but tap the compass to try toggling modes. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  7. Its not a hardware issue and a factory reset does not fix it. There is a thread over on android central if you want more details. In summary, everything worked fine with ICS and now it doesn't.
  8. from google maps to navigation
  9. I tried Google Nav and it's still broke
  10. Why does ground mounted equate to no LTE? No 800mhz i can understand but LTE is very possible with ground mounted RRUs. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  11. Thanks everyone for your feedback. You all make the SIII sound very tempting. I think I'll give HTC/Google another week and then I'll take a trip to Sprint store. Hopefully I'll have more luck than zqual and they will offer an exchange for me.
  12. I think I found one cause of this. I was able to trigger it by starting an OpenSignal Maps speed test and pressing the back button before it finished. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  13. Google Maps/Nav crashes or locks up when trying to navigate anywhere. It seems ok until you actually start to move. I noticed that the Google Track Santa app would crash in the same way when they had Santa travel from city to city. There is a bug in there somewhere that HTC/Google need to figure out. There is a thread over on Android Central if you are interested.
  14. Thanks for the feedback. I have tried everything short of flashing the RUU on my EVO. I have a ticket opened with HTC about the Maps issue and they haven't been helpful yet. I am just not sure I can give up my kickstand! I use it all the time =)
  15. I am having Google Maps issues with my EVO since the Jelly Bean update and will likely take it in for replacement if HTC doesn't do something soon. I needed to swap my EVO a few months ago because of a speakerphone issue and they offered to swap it for an SIII. I was kind of caught off guard so I just stuck with my EVO. This time around I figured I would think about it a bit more before going in for an exchange. So... Has anyone moved from an EVO LTE to the SIII? What do you like better about the SIII? What did you like better about the EVO? I know these are loaded questions and I am not trying to start a Samsung vs HTC war. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
  16. Lets not forget about data rate contributions. Higher data rates equate to higher switching rates which means higher power. Every transition from 1 to 0 and 0 to 1 in the data stream requires energy. The more bits per second, the more energy you are using. The higher rates usually also require more advanced clocking techniques for Phase Locked Loops (PLL) and such. Operating CMOS logic in saturation regions can only achieve certain frequencies. When you cross a barrier which is determined by the underlying technology, you need to transition to Current Mode Logic (CML) which is analog in nature and burns a lot of power. Now these barriers might have been crossed before now but its something to keep in mind. Put more simply, higher data rates equals higher power. Let me also expand a bit on why using an external chip set, in the case of the Exynos, is bad thing. Current commercial technologies like 32nm and 28nm run 1v and below for the core logic. If you want to talk to another chip, you need to level convert to a higher voltage such as 1.8v or 2.5v. Power = Voltage * Current, so increase voltage and you are increasing power. If you can combine logic into a single ASIC or SoC as they are called these days, you can eliminate the need to level convert and reduce your power consumption.
  17. nice... I couldn't get a signal on 234 near PW Parkway. Didn't go as far as hoadly. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  18. Did you try a factory reset before the ruu? I am tempted to try the ruu but i really don't want to reload my phone again.... Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  19. Anyone else having issues with Google Nav? Its been locking up and crashing on me since the update.... I tried a factory reset but no luck, still crashes.
