  1. I find that 6p will hold to B41 to the point where signal is almost unusable.
  2. I see what you mean. In that case, there's one more question. When you leave WiFi on, do you leave push email, hangouts and notifications enabled? Because if yes, then your phone will need a data connection active. If you disable Wi-Fi, then you're forcing all data to go over LTE. That's why Google Team tells you it's something else. You're trying to stop the flow by building a dam, but you really need to turn things off at the source.
  3. Are you suggesting that being connected to distant LTE tower for data takes up less battery than a Wi-Fi spot a few feet away? I don't buy it. Sending any kind of signal over greater distance will require more power. I'm siding with Google here.
  4. If you're looking for cables, here's a good way to go about it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A25GROL6KJV3QG/ref=cm_cr_rdp_pdp Look at all the reviews the Google guy wrote... anything with 5 stars, is a buy... anything with 2 stars... avoid..
  5. On Signal Check Pro, you can tell if you're connected to second carrier by number 2 after b41. Two carriers are required for CA, but that still won't tell you if you're on CA.
  6. I live in SF where we supposedly have CA deployed, so was looking forward to seeing some of those high speeds. It started when two months ago, a friend was showing me speeds of 80Mbit plus on his T-Mobile LG4. He obviously got lucky to us eating dinner next to a tower, but still, I have to hand him the win. Anyway, I've been trying speed test throughout SF, but haven't seen much above 20Mbit and even that's only on a couple occasions. I've found two problems: 1) SF is a combo of Clearwire and Sprint towers and apparently only Sprint Towers to CA 2) The insanely fast scan times... While walking down King St near Caltrain, I had Signal Check Pro, and saw the phone bounce nearly 10 times in a minute between B25, B26, B41 Sprint and B41 Clearwire. SF's geography and tower density probably contribute to some extent. Network load balancing probably contributes to some extent as well. However, the phone's really aggressive scan times also contribute to the phone bouncing around towers so much. Looking at the SignalCheck Pro in the status bar while running speed test shows me that phone rarely is able to complete a speed test while remaining connected to a single B41 tower - not to mention one with CA. Has anyone else noticed this in a high tower density area? -Martin
  7. I started getting the first batch of cables, and I need to rethink my strategy of getting fastest USB 3.0 -C cables. The cables are "hella" big: both the plugs are twice as long and cable is 2-3x as thick as my older MicroUSB cables. The first cable won't allow to close the center console in my car and won't fit through the cable slots towards the cup holder - where the phone barely fits anyway. Take a look of what I mean: Also, the 3A capability and special resistors are really needed for running 3A at 20V to charge a MacBook or ChromeBook. Google wants to highlight the capabilities of USB-C, so we get a one size fits all cable. I'll try to order some USB-A / USB-C 2.0 cables and will report back. Also, if anyone has ordered cables from Amazon that are substantially thinner than what ships with the phone and are of USB-A / USB-C type, please post a few links.
  8. I heard that Google wants to promote its online store along with other hardware, so the phones will not be offered in carrier stores. Best Buy, perhaps? Perhaps at Google stores in malls?
  9. I find the opposite to be true, but that's coming from an HTC M8, I find that that phone is parked on LTE longer and switches from 3G to LTE faster. LTE scan times are certainly more aggressive than my last phone.
  10. Here are my opinions of the 6P after having it for a few days that might not have been covered yet: * Size: if the width of the phone could be 2-3 millimeters smaller, the phone would fit more easily into cup holders. While the phone does fit in my car's cup holder, it does so only at a certain angle and sometimes power button gets pressed turning it off. On the train, the phone is also a very tight fit. Maybe next year the screen bezel can be narrowed a tiny bit. * Headphone jack should be at the bottom. After coming from iPod Nanos, HTC M8 and iPhones, I'm convinced that headphone jack should be at the bottom. In the cases where the phone is charging and playing music, it's less cluttered when all cables come out from the same end. * Wish phone had Optical Image Stabilizer for videos. * USB-C & Rapid charging - Oh man, trying to replace the following charging cables: 2 cars, 3 house locations, 1 work location, 1 external battery and 1 backpack spare forces me consider the following: - Should I get USB-C / USB-C or USB-A / USB-C cable? - What should I buy to replace my QuickCharge chargers? - My external battery has a built-in Micro-USB cable. What to replace it with? - Should I get USB 2.0 or USB 3.1 cables? - Selection and availability of cable types and lengths is much more limited, causing me to spend lengthy times on amazon comparing cables. - RapidChargers are not usually labelled as such. - Spec confusion: according to specs it seemed like only cables rated for USB 3.1 speeds support 3A at 5V and give you rapid charging. Supposedly, this would exclude any USB-C / USB-A cabling. Also implies your charger should have a USB-C plug... I don't think that's the case anymore, but surely was confusing. - This last part is a rant, but I'm sure some of you how are anal about their charges will relate
  11. I've playing around with various charger and cable combinations, but only the included charger/usbc-usbc cable makes the phone display "Rapid Charging" on the lock screen. In your case 3 amp car charger, do you see "rapid charging" on the displayed?
  12. While shopping for cables, I ran into these comments from a Google engineer who worked on the charging cables: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2IS3PG73PF5N0/ref=cm_cr_dp_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B010VFFRCE&channel=detail-glance&nodeID=2335752011&store=wireless#wasThisHelpful I'm still trying to replace my collection of micro-USB/QuickCharge cables throughout the car, house, work, but it's become clear that if you want Rapid Charging, then you need a cable that's USB-C on both ends...
  13. I was scrolling back in this thread for about 5 pages before giving up, and it didn't occur to me to look at the 5x forum. Anyway, can we pin the activation thread to the Huawai forum? I'm disappointed with Sprint that I couldn't just walk into a sprint store to get it activated. Nano-SIM is about as small of an item to stock as you get.
  14. I'm having a hard time getting the phone activated with Sprint mostly due to lack of extra nano-SIms. My question is this: Can I remove the nano-sim from my HTC M8, place it in the Nexus 6p and go through sprint activation process? Is there a reason why did wouldn't work? Is there something special about the nano-sim that goes into the Nexus? I've called 5 stores and most don't have it in stock while one of them might have some tomorrow.
  15. How long do I need to own the leased phone? I ordered a Nexus 6p, so didn't want to commit to a leased phone.
  16. Alright. So I went into Sprint trying to switch my $80 plan. The guy was pretty sharp and said that contract will remain, but that we need to make a change to the account that will force me into the $60 unlimited plan. He offered two options: 1) Add a low cost tablet to the plan, remove it after two months 2) Add a second line to the plan. remove it after two month In the end, I picked #1 since I'm going on a trip and a tablet will be useful. It's a slate 8" tablet with a 1GB plan. I'm now on the $60 plan, but pay an extra $25 for the tablet and plan. Sprint gives me $10/month credit, so I'm already down to $75/month. However, when I cancel, I'll be on the hook for $240 for the tablet. I'll try to sell the tablet, but with a $60 plan, I'll recover the cost after 12 months. So there you go! -Martin
  17. Yea, looks like I need to pay a visit to a store to explore the options. $20/month savings can be put to paying down a phone.
  18. See here: http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/sprint-says-hurry-in-before-its-too-late-last-two-weeks-to-get-unlimited-high-speed-data-talk-and-text-for-just-60month.htm I'm currently on the $80/month plan. My contract ends in March, so wondering what my options are. Any suggestions? I've also ordered a new P6 phone, but won't have that until November. Should I try a promotion with a cheap phone just to grab the $60/month? Otherwise, $80 will include subsidy that I won't need.
  19. I've got an M8 as well, so I'm interested in the same info, since that'll be my likely upgrade path: Band: M8 vs 6P 25: 25.42 vs 21-22 dBm 26: 18.59 vs 18-19 dBm 41: 21.65 vs 21-22 dBm So... conclusion... when you upgrade, it'll be worse with B25, but about same for B26 and B41. And frankly, this is totally fine in my book. B25 is typically overloaded, B41 is where you always want to be... also, good B26 value means that you still get LTE inside buildings, so don't see much change there.
  20. When I went there last year, the WiFi was using WPA with no keys published on the ticket or anywhere obvious. That forced me to Sprint's network which was useless. Given that one selling point is to order food and beer with your phone to have it delivered to your seat, I was disappointed when I couldn't use it.
  21. I've seen lots of delays sending and receiving texts over the last few days. Things seem to have come back to normal now.
  22. I guess I meant whether any more permits are needed to upgrade the Castro&Market tower.
  23. Well, Are there any remaining permits that Sprint is waiting for? It feels like it have taken less time to put up a new tower nearby. The tower density isn't great, and with this one down, I can't imagine how bad service at Dolores Park on a sunny weekend.
  24. I hope these three areas are somewhere on the list for 2015: 1) Market & Castro - no sign of life for such major destination and how long has Vision been going? 2) Muni underground station - The current DAS in there is like a donut. Can't even an SMS through. 3) Forget LTE, how about just 1x800 between Bay Area and LA. Overall, things are pretty good in bay area. I wish my phone M8 would try to get a lock LTE signal longer before going 3G, since after a short elevator ride, it might sit on 3G for a few mins before going back.
