  1. On Caltrain where LTE was full strength in Palo Alto station on University which extended over to Menlo Park. Might be the same tower for both locations, but definitely feels like a new tower got lit up here recently.
  2. Go for it. Be sure to use street corners and addresses instead of tower id's from this site.
  3. So it's not the HD Voice icon that now goes into the status bar. But if you enable Wi-Fi calling, you get a new icon there. And in typical HTC fashion, the icon is there whether you're on Wi-Fi or not.
  4. My M8 doesn't have any more room in the status bar!
  5. I'm happy about that. Been wondering how to tell if I'm on HD Voice.
  6. Well, it's now clear that San Francisco was at the complete bottom of metro areas when Sprint makes an announcement like this one: "As we finish the rip and replace of our 3G network, as well as reach 471 4G LTE markets,..." http://newsroom.sprint.com/blogs/sprint-perspectives/optimizing-americas-newest-network.htm The only upside will be fast speeds we'll see now that most SF residents have left Sprint for other carriers... in another 6 months...
  7. 4G gets activated via SIM. Are you on Sprint's network while doing this? Did you wait for PRL and Profile updates to complete after the reboot? It probably won't hurt to do it again. These are the steps that Sprint did in the store to fix my phone when it was having connectivity issues. The latest software update from HTC luckily did away with the need for that. Do you know if your M8 got the HTC update last month? Martin
  8. It's not the self activation from menus, but a code you type into the dialer. I'm on the train, so hard for me to look it up, but I think I posted steps this forum.
  9. Did you try redoing self activation?
  10. Yes, data roaming on vzw 1x works on the M8.
  11. I did the drive in June and yes, data was useless with lots of dropped calls. My HTC One M8 would get into a state where it would not call anymore. Luckily, a software update made it better inv the way back. Have all the I5 towers simply been GMO'd and left for later?
  12. Well, it depends how you define "many". Right now, I'm counting 11 GMO towers and another 4 without LTE in Omaha/CB area. If SF gets launched, and come December, we still 15 towers without LTE, that's not much of a launch in my book. I know that Sprint would launch markets early on with about 50% of towers upgraded, but given how mature the LTE market has become since then, and how long Sprint's been dragging their, my patience / tolerance has eroded.
  13. Omaha was launched in about Feb/March, but most the GMO'd sites remain.
  14. There's a chance you were roaming too much and Sprint simply disabled data roaming for your account.
  15. I had time zone issues when I was flying through Miami too. Seems to be a Florida thing. Sent from my HTC One M8 using Tapatalk.
  16. Just saw this: http://sfist.com/2014/06/17/sf_wont_be_upgrading_ancient_public.php I wonder if that'll delay 1x800 deployment in SF (and B26) until 2018.
  17. I had a similar experience, but with HTC M8 and a Sprint iPhone 5S. With the HTC M8, Sprint unlocked it on their end and there was nothing to be done on the M8. The international SIMs just worked. With the iPhone 5S, did you get any message in iTunes that phone was unlocked? Did iTunes guide to back up / wipe / restore the phone, or was that something you had to initiate on your own? Was there any confirmation on the phone or indication that it was unlocked? When traveling, I always ended up going with just a data only SIM, since had no need to SMS or call anyone. The phone worked fine in that mode - like a tablet - and i used skype on rare occasions when I needed to call. I find that the bonus/balance offered by SIMs confusing, since the marketing materials do not tell you how much data you get for say... 5 EU. Sales guys kept telling me that I needed 20 EU credit, but none could tell me how much data that would get me.
  18. Did you do self-activation and did that work? Did you get the patch that came out over the weekend? (it should make the radio more robust and self activation unnecessary)
  19. I believe I went with A1, but that's because it was the first provider I ran into. For the 3G GSM, our M8 covers pretty much all the frequencies on HSPA. Voice/Data SIM is easy, but I believe you need to show them your passport to get one. That doesn't seem to be the case for data-only SIM. The hard part will be to find a store without wasting your time running around the city, so a mall would be your best bet.
  20. Have you tried redoing self activation? Are you in a market that's launched? Sent from my HTC One M8 using Tapatalk.
  21. I wanted to share my experience of using the Sprint HTC M8 in Europe with SIM. First of all, you'll need to call Sprint and ask them to either: 1) Enable international roaming 2) Unlock the SIM in the M8 for international SIM cards - Each SIM has a country code of the provider, so phone will only play nice with non-US SIMs. Don't expect to pop in a T-Mobile SIM before your trip until next January. I picked option #2. To help the phone out and keep it from scanning for CDMA and LTE bands not present, I set the phone in GSM/UMTS mode ONLY. Obviously, you need to enable "Allow GSM data" too. I only purchased SIMs in Austria and Poland, as I couldn't find a cell store in Croatia's little towns we visited. Specifically, I purchased data-only packages - ones you'd use in an iPad or tablet - so phone had no voice or sms connectivity, although I could use skype or google voice as needed. In Austria, my speed test was 3-5Mbit down and 2.5 Mbit up. In Poland, I'd get 7Mbit down. Definitely fast and with full bars signal strength nearly everywhere I went. I saw LTE being pushed everyone, but I can understand why there's demand in Europe for non-LTE phones with speeds like that. Battery life was easily 2x as good as I get in US. I never got an LTE since our phone is locked to relatively rare bands of 25, 26 and 41. For reference, in Poland, 15 GB of LTE costs equivalent of $19. Compare that to we get charged here in the US and weep. The phone performed well, although in Austria, the data connectivity would hang couple times a day, and I had to resolve it by toggling Airplane Mode. I suspect that GSM modes are not as thoroughly tested on the M8. The SIM was also setup with a Pin Lock (something that I didn't know about), and so I needed the PIN handy as I couldn't navigate the german menus to disable it. When you have an international SIM in the phone, there's a SIM Tools app that appears which seems to navigate a menu system that's driven by the SIM in the local language. My other gripe is with LTE support. Any iPhone you buy in the US supports LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 25, 26, Sprint HTC One only does 25, 26 and 41 which is hardly used elsewhere in the world. I wish is for HTC to release a single model for all US carriers - possibly by using Qualcomm's RF360 to support more LTE bands. VZ and AT&T clearly got dibs on LTE bands that are more commonly seen around the world. While I can understand that HTC might not carry as much weight as Apple when it comes to that, HTC has no excuse in their GPE models that are T-mobile only and unlocked. Ping me if you have any questions about that.
  22. My area doesn't have much b41, but when traveling, I've noticed it on a few occasions. It's amazing how fast it is despite phone showing only one or two bars. Sent from my HTC One M8 using Tapatalk.
  23. Does that include Menlo and Atherton? If so, then the big LTE hole on Caltrain ride down is finally filled. But to mention dropped calls that didn't want to hand of nicely from NV equipment to legacy and reverse. Sent from my HTC One M8 using Tapatalk.
  24. Do the missing contacts show up in Gmail in email address auto complete? Sent from my HTC One M8 using Tapatalk.
  25. It could also be a case where only contacts under "My Contacts" are synced. Compare the ones that were synced with ones that weren't to confirm they are labeled the same way. Sent from my HTC One M8 using Tapatalk.
