  1. I've dropped it twice face down and broke the screen twice.  Both times were on asphalt with little pointy rocks on the surface.

which phone was the phone that broke in your truck?

  2. After breaking two screens on my Nexus 6P, I think I'm willing to try a nearly indestructible plastic screen in my next device. I'm thinking about getting this thing.

With a Live case and glass screen protector, i've never broken my N6P and I drop the thing constantly.  I can't believe how clumsy I've become with this device.

  3. You would be amazed.

I heard rumors that the new iphone will be over $1000 and bet there will be lines outside the store waiting when it's released.

iPhone=smart phones for dumb people... (i love that line...)

Apple has such a fan following and the mystique still exists of having the latest and greatest iPhone.  Now-a-days all the lines are pre-orders and pick ups.  How many phones do the stores actually stock to sell on release day.

My hardcore comment was regarding the Samsung Note followers

  4. Wowza, $1200 for Note 8?!?!?!  I was already out based on Touchwiz, but damn that price.  Outside of the hardcore, who is going to spend that much on a smartphone?  The note is an awesome line (outside of the exploding batteries), but I think Samsung is screwing themselves there.

Twospirits hit the nail on the head, Google could produce a flagship at $400, make no money on the device, but sell the shit out of it.  My Nexus 6P is rock solid and I spent $600 for it, worth every penny.  While I don't need the SD card slow with 128GB of storage, a built in stylus would be awesome.  I'd love for Google to bring back true Wi-Fi Direct/miracast.  I understand they want to sell Chromecasts, but for people who don't have a wireless network can't use that capability.

  5. East Lansing is far enough away from the Canucks that it should be 5x5 over the whole metro, IMHO. Sprint should consider seeking variance from FCC.

This what I'm afraid they'll do in Seattle. All 3x3, and only south facing sectors. Fortunately, most of Western Washington has ubiquitous B41 now. Hopefully B26 will only be used in far from site and deep interior building conditions.

Being a late to B26 market can be somewhat of a blessing, because they spent more effort on B41 in most of those markets to help counteract no B26. That allows good B41 density to be present when B26 does start to going live and B26 can just be used as intended. Not as capacity relief for B25.

Our B41 is so overloaded in Lansing that its worthless during the day.  All SCP does is bounce from one carrier to another, then ends up on another tower, doing the same.  Then would park on B26 which was overloaded.  After I disabled B41 and B26, my phone is great in town with just B25.  I can't wait to get my Magic Box for home to see how that helps service in my neighborhood, I'm fringe edge between Lansing and Grand Rapids networks.

  6. Isn't that outside the IBEZ? Why are they running 3x3? Also, B26 cannot do what it needs to do unless there is a good density of B41. Detroit B41 density is quite good. Not as good as it ideally needs to be, but it's one of the best metros of those that never had Clearwire service.

Most of the Lansing network is out of the IBEZ, but part is still in, so the whole area is 3x3.

  7. For those who have been contacted about the Magic Box, were you contacted by email, text or phone?  I received a call (after looking up the number since I do not answer calls from numbers I do not know), the feedback says it was from a Sprint Store I have never visited though I have visited others on rare occasion.

i got my acceptance call about a month ago, nothing since then

  8. I was honestly surprised that I got a confirmation call, I didn't expect it.  However, I'll gladly do anything that will improve my coverage and service.

What is the coverage area for a MagicBox?  Didn't see that noted in the Wall article.  Is this a single household thing, neighborhood thing?

NM, it was in the press release

One Sprint Magic Box provides average coverage of 30,000 square feet indoors and can benefit adjacent Sprint customers inside the building. The signal can also extend coverage 100 meters outside a building, benefitting Sprint customers in nearby buildings and improving street–level network performance.

  9. Either the PLMN is not updating and the EARFCN is, or vice versa. And the PCI may or may not be updating. Tricky for SCP to do much with it, because it must presume that the OS is reporting valid data. Does the PCI you saw at that time match a known Sprint site in that area? Or check cellmapper.net and see if there is an nearby B4 site for another provider (I believe the other Big 3 all use B4).

The PCIs are unique and not for the local Sprint sites.  I believe outside the 310120 not updating the rest of the data is valid.  The device is scanning during a modem change and trying to authenticate.  I was on LTE700 this AM, but had no data flowing, after about 30 seconds, I was back on B25.

  10. Got it again, appears to be happening when I'm bouncing between sites. SCP said days was flowing, I was updating my podcatcher without error, it was a good 30-45 seconds on band 4, then flashed LTE 700, before going back to B25dce79a93750bb2a230100dab54065c97.jpg

  11. I'm not sure when it first occurred, i had been using my phone previous to noticing it, i was trying to get a screenshot to take because i was so surprised, right after the screenshot it went to 3G.

I wonder if I disable all 3 LTE bands if it would try to connect again

No way to disable B25 without disabling all LTE

  12. Were you able to pass any data? Was this the only tower you connected to?

  13. How long did it stay that way? That's Tmo's channel for Lower Michigan. First sign of network sharing? Long shot, of course.

Not sure how long it was there, i saw it for a good minute, before i bounced to CDMA/3G, then back to B25 LTE.  There has been some funkiness in my West Michigan region at night recently, 11p-1a wher my phone just loses all connection for 30 seconds - a couple mins.  Acts like towers are completely gone.  I have B26 disabled at this point so I mostly live on B25.  B41 has been a bit better, but with the summer foliage, not getting stable connections on my phone.  My Tab E mostly parks on B41 in the upstairs of my house.

  14. I don't know if any of you had the early shut down issue with your 6P's but if you did AND bought from Google direct, you should reach out through the warranty page and see about getting a replacement. I had the issue and got my 6P replaced with a brand new one. If they didn't have one, they were going to refund full price paid to me in exchange for my 6P with issues.

I wonder if Amazon will, i shutdown between 12-15%

  15. So I turned on b26 and b41 since the scp update and it was complete shit again. B26 was preferred and unusable, b41 at times worked ok, but was unstable and if get shuffled to b26. Very rarely got sent to b25, and was almost immediately load balanced off.

Turned both off again and back to stable on b25

  16. Maybe B25 was so reliable because everyone else's device was on B26 or B41 also! Did things ever improve for you? It sounds like something wasn't working the way it should be.

    -Mike

No change, I've disabled b26 and b41 since this thread and it's stable.

Maybe I should turn them back on and see what happens

  17. For those still using a Galaxy S3 it would be good to know if this particular phone at least has a functional GSM radio that can be use to assist the phone to roam on GSM based network for domestic 911 calls -- if Verizon sunsets CDMA in a couple of years.

I thought the GS3 was the same generation as the Note 2 which had a physical hard wired SIM.
