  1.

Your 3G icon appeared because it was sending the MMS/SMS over the 3G signal' date=' Not WiMax 4G signal.[/quote']

That is my point, I thought I read about a year ago that Sprint/Clear has gotten SMS/mms working over Wimax. That was when I stopped seeing the 3g icon show when connected to Wimax

  2. Robert,

Can you tell me which tower IDs coorispond to the Lansing, MI protection sites?

    • Michigan > Lansing > Central Tower. Confirmed by Sensorly. Do you have any performance data?
    • Michigan > Lansing > SE/MSU Tower. Confirmed by Sensorly. Do you have any performance data
    • Michigan > Lansing > South/Holt Tower. Confirmed by Sensorly. Do you have any performance data?

I've been trying to figure this out, but haven't had too much luck.

  3. LTE and CDMA on 1900Mhz should have the same propagation characteristics after network vision so if you get 3G & Voice you'll get LTE. LTE is better with lower signal from what I've seen you can get speeds of 20mbit/s at signal levels of -106dBm vs CDMA which drops down to 0.05mbit/s or less at -106 dBm. WiMax is a broadband technology, it's not meant for Voice, SMS, or MMS.

I thought Sprint got SMS/MMS working over WiMax

  4. T-Mobile's existing HSPA+ network is great, they would be better off converting their Edge/GSM markets and expanding their coverage instead of converting to LTE. They have a lot of unused spectrum around the country unused, just like the other cell companies. Maybe LTE is a marketing buzz word, even better than using a 'g' in 4g adverts.

Besides the buzz of LTE, why would TMobile invest 4 billion into an LTE conversion? HSPA+42 and 84 perform great and as noted outperform LTE in many cases.

Is there something in LTE that makes it that much better than continuing to upgrade HSPA?

  5. I snapped a few pictures of the 3 closest towers to my house, trying to identify the sprint equipment (and clear wimax). One of them is obvious because its a single head on top of a building by the airport, but the rest I'm clueless on.

Can anyone help me identify what equipment belongs to who on these towers?

(I don't know enough about the panels, but it looks like two different types on this site. It's on top of a small building near the airport.)

DE60XC036 - Stanley St, Lansing, MI

(Pretty sure there is WiMax on this tower, based on looking at the clear.com/coverage maps. Also, closest to my house)

    DE33XC553 - Filley St

(Shared tower by the railroad tracks. I have closer pictures of the individual panels if needed, but this was the only one with everything)

  6. The answer why is financial. Right, wrong or indifferent. Sprint is banking on getting the network down to 38,000 sites. However, in my opinion, there are less than 1,000 iDEN sites that Sprint would need to keep. Ideally, Sprint should convert these 1,000 sites to Sprint CDMA/LTE in Network Vision to expand and fill in coverage holes. Louisiana would be one of the chief areas impacted for the good with my Nextel conversion plan.

This really is the only noteworthy negative comment I have on Sprint and Network Vision. It is a huge missed opportunity. :imo:

How does one locate the iDen towers that are being Decom'd? I had to get my parents an AirRave and my old man used to get great nextel service...
