  1. What I recommend you do is look at the thread below since you are in the Alcatel Lucent market which shows you what to look for at a Sprint tower. Just because you are next to a Sprint tower doesn't mean that it has been upgraded to Network Vision. For all you know, the tower you expected to have fast speeds may not even been upgraded to Network Vision which explains the slow speeds. Look for the pictures that show the "newer" setup since that is what Sprint is using in the Riverside/San Bernardino market. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3915-how-to-spot-sprint-antennas-and-rrus-alcatel-lucent-style/ Another thing I suggest is that you become a S4GRU sponsor and so you can see the map of all the LTE towers that have been accepted nationwide including the Riverside/San Bernardino market.
  2. I don't see that happening for the foreseeable future even if the spectrum is contiguous. Since the gs3, note 2 and gs4 can only support 5x5 mhz carriers, Sprint can't just leave those people in the dark with no LTE if Sprint did a 10x10 carrier Sent from my LG G2 LS980 using Tapatalk
  3. How the heck can you have a 8x5 when Sprint only has 14 MHz which is a 7x7 configuration (817-824 and 862-869 MHz)? The most Sprint can do when they shut down 1x800 is either have two 3x3 LTE carriers OR have a 5x5 and a 1.4x1.4 LTE carriers
  4. Whoa calm down there with all the questions. Friday is more special than the rest of the other days of the week since people don't have time during the weekday to upgrade phones. If you ask anyone who works at Verizon, sprint, Tmobile and AT&T and they will all tell you that sales reach their peak during the weekends (Fri-Sun). Also if you have heard the saying "the trend is your friend" you will see that all the flagship 2013 smartphones have ALL been released on a Friday except for Galaxy S4 which is on a Saturday: iPhone 5C/5S = 9/20, Note 3 = 10/4, LG G2 and Nexus 5 = 11/8, HTC One Max = 11/15, HTC One = 4/19, Galaxy S4 = 4/27 which is a Sat but close enough.
  5. *Yawn*....rumors of an earlier than expected Galaxy S release never pan out. The GS5 will come out around the April to May time frame just like it has done the last 2 years. Any rumors that say a Jan or Feb release for the GS5 is imminent are just bogus and are just trying to attract site numbers. This is not the first time I have seen this.
  6. Yeah I see what you mean. Like I said if its not released this Friday, 12/27 then it won't be released in 2013. Look for Friday phone releases in early 2014 since it doesn't make sense for carriers to release phones during mid week since people don't have time during the day to upgrade their phones.
  7. Well the only other triband LTE device in the pipeline that has been FCC approved is the LG G Flex which Sprint has not made a public announcement yet. I think the LG G Flex won't come out until early 2014 or until ATT/Tmobile announce that they are going to release it. The next triband LTE device has to the GS4 triband. If they don't release the GS4 triband soon then people will just wait for the GS5 if they want a Samsung LTE phone.
  8. It is not going to be sold on Dec 31st. If anything phone releases are on a Friday so 1/3/14 would be a more likely release date. If not it could be on 1/10/14. I don't think Sprint made a promise that the GS4 triband phone will be released in 2013.
  9. Honestly it doesn't matter to me that Sprint doesn't have the Spark update yet for the LG G2. I want Qualcomm and LG to continue making improvements to the baseband to improve LTE reception. Even if the Spark update is available now, LTE 800 is still not accessible to anyone yet. I have a feeling when the Spark update is available to the LG G2 and Nexus 5 that Sprint will announce the availability of LTE 800 in several markets.
  10. I don't believe the iPhone 5S needs a special update in order to use LTE 800. The Spark update thing only applies for triband LTE phones and the iPhone 5S is just an odd case for Sprint where they made it a dual band LTE phone. Its just that LTE 800 just began rolling out in Q4 so its going to take some time before you can experience it. If you decide to be a Sponsor or Premier Sponsor, Robert has LTE 800 and LTE 2600 maps in the Premier Sponsor forum that outlines which markets have LTE 800 sites accepted. Its definitely worth the price and of course it helps Robert sponsor this site since this site is non profit. Take a look at this thread for sponsorship information http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1195-information-about-s4gru-sponsorship-levels-and-how-to-become-a-sponsor/ There is a special going on that Robert has put out for the Christmas and New Years holiday if you do decide to become a sponsor. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/5198-special-premier-sponsor-offerfor-the-holiday-season-through-new-years-eve/
  11. The good thing is that the iPhone 5s is semi Spark enabled since it has LTE 800 support which I think is very important to have coverage deep indoors. The iPhone 5s doesn't have LTE 2600 support but it's not that bad. I would say your phone is future proof. Also Atlanta doesn't have the ecsfb issues for the most part. 12. Well with the band plan that they have presented, it seems like those markets will only be allowed to deploy at most a 3x3 LTE carrier. I wasn't expecting a 5x5 LTE carrier to deployed anyways. But even a 3x3 LTE carrier is still better than nothing and Sprint should be maximizing its resources whenever possible. However you are right that we should be keeping our expectations low. Hopefully Sprint and Mexican operators can work something out where it benefits both sides.
  13. See answers in bold 1. Does the stock phone support Spark by default? Sprints Website says that it is coming soon via update. (update: I went into ##3282# after getting my MSL and I went into LTE and enabled the other bands. it is all i needed to do or do i need to change the priority ) Spark update is not yet available on the G2 yet. Sprint has said that they Spark update will be available in "early 2014". It doesn't matter if you enabled B26 and B41 LTE manually as the B26 and B41 LTE bands are unstable at this point. There are only confirmed B41 LTE sites available and we have no confirmed B26 LTE sites in NYC at the moment. Good luck. 2. If it doesn't what are the necessary steps to get it working? After the Spark update, all 3 LTE bands will be enabled by default so there will be nothing you have to do and should be seamless. Right now you can manually enable the 2 other LTE bands. but I will just warn you that the LTE signal is very unstable and it will be frustrating trying to get a B41 LTE signal. If you are in a strong B25 LTE area, forget it, the G2 will not shift to the B26 and B41 LTE bands with the current ROM. 3. This is probably best for a another thread but anyone know best place to test for spark? NO!!! Please do not create another thread just for Spark if its for the G2. If it pertains to the G2, please keep your observations in this thread. This thread should be the default source for testing LTE spark on the G2. Any G2 Spark observations will help anyone regardless of location. You are not officially Sprint Spark until we receive the update. For now you can play with trying to enable the other LTE bands and doing some limited testing until the Sprint Spark update arrives.
  14. US/Mexico IBEZ area has been agreed upon both sides. Right now there is a 30 month rebanding period that began in August 2013 and has to be complete at the very latest by February 2016. http://www.fcc.gov/document/commencement-800-mhz-band-reconfiguration-along-mexico-border
  15. After looking at Tmobile's coverage map, it looks way better than Sprint's crappy coverage map that looks so primitive like it was made by a 15 year old. Sprint really needs to hire someone who can revamp the coverage map badly. What bugs me the most about the Sprint coverage map is that you are limited to that tiny square box that they provide as if you can see anything. We should be able to maximize it to at least 80% of your screen. There is no reason why the coverage maps should not take up a lot of the screen.
  16. Anyone who is just a Sponsor should really consider upgrading to Premier Sponsor using Robert's Christmas to New Years special of 25% off. The LTE 800 and LTE 2600 deployment maps are well worth the price.
  17. Add motorola photon 4g to this list. Sent from my LG G2 LS980 using Tapatalk
  18. Lets just get some things straight first. B12 is 699-716 MHz and B17 is 704-716 MHz. So if you have a 15 MHz FDD carrier at B12, how the heck can you have a B17 10 MHz FDD carrier running concurrently at the same time? All the spectrum in the B12 15 MHz carrier is being occupied. Get it? Not sure if you meant to say a B12 5 MHz FDD carrier and a B17 10 MHz FDD carrier. That can be possible but this is certainly not what you said though.
  19. If Sprint bought Tmobile, they should both remain independent for at least another 2-3 years and not try to merge each other's 3G technology right away. It would be a total waste of resources. Both sides should be focused and shift as much spectrum into deploying as much LTE as possible until they cover their 3G footprint nationwide. At that point Sprint should begin looking at how to migrate and integrate the two legacy networks together so that both Sprint and Tmobile customers will be using VoLTE primarily and LTE for data on the same network. Of course this means that Sprint would have to start adding AWS LTE bands early in their phones to ensure adoption goes much quicker.
  20. I didn't mean to say that everywhere in the US will be halted for B41 LTE deployment. Certainly southern states are not going to be affected by snow or in-climate weather and will continue with B41 LTE deployment. But I still think its too aggressive for every single Clearwire site to be upgraded to B41 LTE by end of Spring 2014. I expect some delays as Softbank/Sprint begin shifting resources and funding for new fires that may arise. Perfect example is this eCSFB issue which now turns out to be a high priority and has caused Sprint to shift focus on upgrading more 1x/3G on LTE sites instead of continuing to build out more LTE in these markets.
  21. There is no way all the Clearwire sites will be done by Spring 2014. This winter months are going to slow down production for several months. I think Robert is right and that the more likely scenario to complete B41 LTE on all Clearwire sites is end of 2014.
  22. Long story short, do not buy Verizon G2 cases for the Sprint G2, the thickness (added thickness due to the wireless charging) and the button size/placement (smaller buttons on G2) is not the same between the Verizon G2 and Sprint G2. There is a reason why you see LG G2 cases on Amazon that specifically say Verizon only or Sprint/Tmobile/AT&T only.
  23. Tmobile's goal is still to eventually move HSPA+ off of AWS and onto PCS correct? However in the time frame that Verizon needs to sell its 700 MHz A block spectrum, I don't see how this can happen. Honestly I don't really want to see Verizon get any stronger with more AWS spectrum. I would rather just see Verizon cash out on the 700 MHz A block spectrum and move on. They have a 20x20 LTE AWS block in the eastern half of the US already and I don't think they need anymore. Perhaps the goal for Verizon in the 700 MHz A block swap would be to fill in the gaps on the western half of the US so that it holds more than just a 10x10 LTE block of AWS spectrum.
