  1. Hmm? Dish and Ergan must have something up their sleeve. DISH went through with the sale to buy the satellite assets although the FCC did not grant the waiver to operate or build its network. http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/13/dish-buys-terrestar-and-dbsd-inches-towards-lte-future/
  2. I guess tongues are wagging now, this report says that an investor criticized Sprints complicated plans. Although I don't agree with Sprints one size fits all approach for everyone, but you have to admit it doesn't take rocket science to figure out if you want data on a family plan, every one is going to get it. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Pension-Plan-investor-criticizes-Dan-Hesse-Sprints-board-still-supports-CEO_id28018
  3. Here are some fresh numbers on the state of WiMax compared to HSPA and LTE. WiMax is going down the slow path to oblivion. http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/13/2868326/4g-smartphone-sales-numbers-lte-wimax-q4-2011
  4. Good point. I saw rumors that it may go to cloud storage, but if it comes with expandable memory that may pursuade me even more.
  5. Agree, thats exactly what AT&T and Verizon have been attempting. Buying spectrum and warehousing it. Keeps it off the market and for use if/when it needs it for the future.
  6. If Sprint goes that route I can see the SIM card devotees becoming upset. I was also looking at going back to SIMs myself when VoLTE came around, but if a workaround isn't found in time...
  7. I'm looking forward to seeing what this Google tablet will do. The initial specs look promising, but I'm waiting to see what sort of memory it will have and final form factor. Although I think I would prefer a 10" Google tablet, for the right price I my have to take this one for a test drive.
  8. Here's an interview with Alec Saunders, VP of Developer Relations. He discusses software update for RIM's PlayBook tablet, how RIM will attract developers and what he thinks about BlackBerry 10. http://www.fiercedeveloper.com/story/research-mobiles-alec-saunders-dishes-rims-playbook-update-blackberry-10/2012-03-12
  9. No, WiMax is done. No more $ or equipment is going in except for maintaining the network for another 3 years.
  10. Here's a different link to the story. http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/report-sprints-board-keeps-close-tabs-ceo-hesse/2012-03-13
  11. I've read that it may possibly be hand off issues between CDMA and LTE. I'm perfectly willing to let Verizon be the guinea pig with getting the bug's work out. It's the price you pay for being first with new technology and I'm sure Sprint and the others are taking copious notes. Just wait until Big Red & Metro PCS try out VoLTE for the first time later this year. Being first to market has its assorted headaches that go along with the fame.
  12. I'm still puzzled by all the extra funding Clearwire needs. I've commented before about this, but they originally needed $600 million to convert its entire network to LTE and said it would take a year to do so. Clearwire has gotten that much and more and we're looking at over a year and a half to do a patchwork network that will benefit Sprint more in support LTE that benefitting Clearwire as a true wholsale provider. All this money is being flushed somewhere, thats why I'm an advocate of Sprint just taking over Clearwire. If they could make a run for Metro PCS and all the work it would entail to integrate that unit into Sprint, A Clearwire aquisition would be small potatoes.
