  1. I'm running 12.1.2 on my iPhone XS in the DC area and I'm not having any issues on VoLTE or with Wi-Fi Calling.
  2. I just hope we never get to this point if a merger happens: AT&T to begin upgrading existing LTE phones to ‘5G E’ Given Neville's recent Blog Post, it doesn't seem likely, but companies can change over time.... https://twitter.com/NevilleRay/status/1075754021560901633 https://twitter.com/NevilleRay/status/1076284138842349568 T-Mobile did it: This isn’t the first time that service providers have manipulated customers in this manner. T-Mobile and AT&T both labeled HSPA+ as 4G and Sprint tried to convince the world that its WiMax network was just as good as LTE.
  3. https://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-refuses-to-go-public-assessment-sprint-t-mobile-merger Hmmm... I wonder what’s in this assessment...
  4. No holding back by Neville on what "New T-Mobile" means for 5G: https://www.t-mobile.com/news/5g-for-few-vs-5g-for-all Verizon named their 5G Ultra Wide Band (UWB) – to trick you into thinking their network’s scarcity is something special. In fact, they’re working with OEMs to show “5G UWB” on the device
when you can find it! UWB should be short for UnderWhelming Bullshit because that’s exactly what it is. and AT&T is launching 5G with big-a$$ 5G pucks This is not what America pucking wants. ..... And if you missed it, take a look at the handy puck gift guide we published to help people lug this thing around.
  5. I haven't seen loud voice calls on Metro be an issue yet. Loud people at times, yes. People playing music on their smartphone speakers without headphones, yes. People just don't talk on the phone like they used to I guess. Yeah, Sprint's tri-band deployment is pretty solid. Band 41 has the capacity to handle the crowds well. I pass through some of these segments and it really makes a difference in the commute experience. I hope they extend coverage in the tunnel up past Dupont Circle on the Red Line soon. Grosvenor or bust! 😀
  6. It's been a ridiculous slog for Metro to get cellular coverage in the stations/tunnels. Here's an article from February 2015 which summarizes what happened (the original contractor filed for bankruptcy and stopped work on the project): https://wamu.org/story/15/02/27/can_you_hear_me_now_in_metro_tunnels_answer_is_not_yet/ As Metro’s Downey mentioned to Congress, the California-based tech company PowerWave filed for bankruptcy in early 2013 and stopped work on the wireless project. The carriers took PowerWave to court and in May 2013 paid the bankrupt firm $2 million to settle their dispute. The carriers then took over the endeavor to expand Internet and cellphone coverage within Metro’s system. At least the carriers seem to be doing a good job on this. I've gotten very good Sprint speeds/coverage in the stations and in the tunnel segments that have been launched. Having VoLTE live on the iPhone has helped as well.
  7. https://www.wmata.com/about/news/Metro-AT-T-Sprint-T-Mobile-Verizon-Wireless-announce-milestone-in-tunnel-wireless-coverage.cfm “Today Metro and the nation’s leading wireless carriers, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless announced that more than half of Metro’s tunnels are now wired for cellular and data service. The milestone was accompanied by the formal announcement of three new tunnel segments coming online as “wireless ready.”” The three new “wireless ready” tunnel segments announced today are: ‱ Blue/Orange Line between Ballston and Rosslyn (5.6 track miles) ‱ Blue/Orange/Silver Line between Rosslyn and Metro Center (4.8 track miles) ‱ Green Line between College Park and Fort Totten (7.4 track miles) ——————— Progress! New segments are coming online as the work is finished. The Press Release says they’ll be done by Mid-2020.
  8. Exciting stuff! EDIT TO ADD: Based on this article, Sprint had a successful 5G data transmission test with Nokia equipment earlier this month at its Reston, VA Lab. Testing with Ericsson and Samsung gear is currently underway. Just announced today: Good news on Ericsson Gear!
  9. Dr. Saw shared this Update: Celebrating a Year of Sprint Network Milestones on our Path to 5G Seems like good progress? Check out that National Average Download Speed Improvement according to Nielsen (93%) and PCMag (87%)! Odd that there's no mention of VoLTE.
  10. As @nexgencpu mentioned, give the box at least a few days, perhaps up to a week, to optimize on the Network.
  11. “The company recently deployed 800 MHz service on more than 800 cell sites in Southern California and Los Angeles (with more on the way) to extend voice and data coverage into more locations, including indoors where the majority of wireless traffic is generated.”
  12. In recent testing by RootMetricsÂź, Sprint is #1 with the fastest download speeds in Boston.1 Indoor and outdoor testing was conducted during peak-usage hours during the day in the busiest areas of Boston. Samples were collected in iconic tourist areas, top travel destinations, business districts, retail shops, major entertainment areas, and other high-traffic areas. The end result is testing that shows how carriers perform in the busiest parts of Boston, and the results also evaluate how well networks are prepared for upcoming 5G and IoT deployments. Additionally, analysis of Nielsen drive test data shows Sprint has the most improved network in Boston with a 292% increase in download speeds year-over-year.2
  13. Looks like Kevin Crull, Chief Strategy Officer is leaving at the end of the year: https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2018/12/06/sprint-crull-chief-strategy-officer-leaves.html Sprint Corp. Chief Strategy Officer Kevin Crull will leave the Overland Park-based company at the end of the year, according to a Thursday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The mutual decision for Crull to leave was made Monday and will take effect Dec. 31, the filing states. Crull also leads Sprint's (NYSE: S) Integration Management Office (IMO) and 5G DEVGRU.
  14. Yup. When the device rebooted after updating to 12.1.1, VoLTE was automatically enabled in the settings. They do seem to want to move iOS users with capable devices over to VoLTE as quickly as possible.
  15. Yes and yes. VoLTE is live in the Washington, DC Market on my iPhone XS and the iPhone 8 I tested (and I assume the 8 Plus as well).
  16. Sprint is Getting Ready for the Big Game and 5G in Atlanta https://newsroom.sprint.com/sprint-is-getting-ready-for-big-game-and-5g-in-atlanta.htm Pretty great info in this Blog Post! Sprint's going to be in great shape for the game.
  17. I just updated an iPhone 8 to iOS 12.1.1 and it shows VoLTE as enabled. Carrier 35.0
