  1. With regard to the 300mil pops claim, show me the money. Their maps certainly don't show 300mil pops of LTE, and neither do mapping applications like Sensorly.
  2. Load balancing attempts to keep a similar performance delta across all bands. If both are overburdened the only solution is to add more spectrum for LTE or increase cell density.
  3. Here come the non-profits trying to delay the shutdown... http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/nonprofits-seek-emergency-injunction-to-stop-sprints-shutdown-and-keep-300000-americans-online-300165897.html They want a whole 90 day extension and no throttling on the LTE network. That's absurd. They've had plenty of notice that WiMax was being shutdown and Sprint was willing to work with them to migrate to the LTE network. It seems like the non-profits dragged their feet on the transition because Sprint wouldn't provide unmanaged access to the LTE network.
  4. SVRCC/eSVRCC for CDMA wasn't deployment ready when Verizon started on VoLTE and it still isn't. There are numerous technical issues that need to be resolved. Sprint's LTE coverage isn't mature enough to handle VoLTE without a fallback without causing a huge increase in dropped calls, and that would be hugely detrimental to the customer experience.
  5. No, because the success rate is something like 60% (maybe higher, Tim can confirm). Sprint is the only CDMA carrier attempting to implement SVRCC for VoLTE to CDMA. Verizon skipped it because of the poor success rates, so Verizon VoLTE will drop calls if LTE drops.
  6. No, VoLTE won't be implemented for a while, probably not until NGN has made significant progress. If Sprint deployed VoLTE right now their dropped/blocked call rate would skyrocket.
  7. That seems pretty definitive that they will soon officially own 700a in San Diego. Nothing has hit the FCC ULS yet to my knowledge. Also, that's a 4 sector site with 2xAIR21 and 2x700 antenna per sector. What an insane setup.
  8. Updated and can confirm no more crashing. Unfortunately, 3G indicators are messed up. On my Nexus 5 running M, the eHRDP/EVDO signal section fails to show up despite the phone being connected to EVDO. Signal check says "connected to eHRDP" but only shows a signal section for 1x. I sent diagnostics.
  9. They're coming to the end of what was planned at the beginning of the year. NGN ramps up Q1 2016. I have no idea.
  10. How many times will this come up?? As Tim has said numerous times, Sprint places equipment orders 6 months in advance. They're coming to the end of this round of deployment, so there will be a lull in activity until the NGN order is fulfilled. Sprint's deployment plans haven't changed since these plans were in place at the beginning of the year.
  11. New news today. Can you guys confirm what Sprint claims? http://newsroom.sprint.com/blogs/sprint-perspectives/sprint-lights-up-more-nyc-subway-stations-than-any-other-carrier.htm
  12. Band 41 is the highest priority but it may be a case of the phone taking slightly longer to scan band 41 than it does band 25/26. Many times when I toggle airplane mode in a band 41 area my N5 will jump on to 25/26 then band 41 within a few seconds.
  13. There is no more SMR to be had. All 800MHz band spectrum has owners, whether it be public safety or AT&T/Verizon.
  14. That's primarily a UE scan time issue. The network can't move the phone to band 41 until it reports that it is receiving it. Also, CA only becomes active during a data session. The phone doesn't idle on CA because that is a waste of battery
  15. 1xAdvanced completely replaced old 1x when it was deployed. 1xA is fully backwards compatible, so there's no need to keep "legacy" 1x carriers online.
  16. Direct2U is much cheaper than operating a full store, and obviously it's getting good returns or they wouldn't have continued to expand the service.
  17. There's just no way a .01 increase in modem version made significant enough changes to have a large effect on signal. The 800 platform is EOL and Qualcomm isn't making any more major changes, hence the .01 increase in the modem version.
