Sprint Quarterly Earnings Announcement Scheduled
JeffDTD replied to marioc21's topic in General Topics
Think about the big two. Does anyone choose ATT over verizon because they're larger? No. Despite being the 2nd largest, Verizon's overrall network perception remains best among the 4. They grow based on their pricing and perception of service quality, not their existing size. That would be like arguing someone wants to be a Comcast customer because they're the largest cableco in the country. -

Claire (Claure) hinted, apparently, that Sprint may not participate. http://www.cnet.com/news/sprint-ceo-without-net-neutrality-rules-we-are-toast/ Is that bluff to influence FCC rules? Long term strategy to justify consolidation? Or just reality that Sprint can be competitive in 2020+ without it? -
FCC Revokes Net Neutrality [WAS: FCC Approves Net Neutrality]
JeffDTD replied to JThorson's topic in General Topics
The correlation that the most vocal opponents tend to be the most profitable in their respective categories says something. Not sure exactly what I conclude from that. I'd love to take a libertarian view, assume that the opponents are intrinsically "good" companies and will operate, without regulation, (and among its peers) in a manner that promotes competition, fairness, and value for the user. Unfortunately, my personal experiences with several of them and lots of anecdotal evidence says something considerably more sinister. It's all $$. -
I'm just thrilled that Marcelo is trying. He gets "it". Hoping backhaul is already on order for some of these harder to serve sites..

RadioShack Said to Be in Talks to Sell Stores to Sprint

"Sprint... Together with Radio Shack"? Imagination. Product refresh. Just something. Please don't be same old Radio Shack with a Sprint kiosk. -
RadioShack Said to Be in Talks to Sell Stores to Sprint
JeffDTD replied to mhammett's topic in General Topics
I avoid the local Radio Shack(s) for the same reason I avoid Sprint stores. High prices on accessories and necessities, uninformed and/or careless employees, uncomfortable shopping environment. No one should expect 3 RS stores in your local area to translate into 3 sprint stores. More corporate stores will always be better, but I still harbor ill will towards Sprint for closing our local corporate store almost 10 years ago, ultimately a result of cost cutting after the acquisition of Gulf Coast Wireless and the costs Sprint incurred rebuilding the area after Hurricane Katrina. It was a very well run store with a seasoned staff and a great manager. It was also always swamped. Its just all about profit.... and when Best Buy is always price aggressive and more customers are online savvy, the store is more a place to window shop and get help than a sales destination. Profit or even just breaking even isn't easy. -
"On a less positive note, Hoettges also stated that T-Mobile’s current approach isn’t sustainable in the long-term. Between $4B and $5B investment is needed each year to keep it up." Noticeably absent from Legere's morning twitter buzz. Hmm.

If the Mosaik LTE coverage claim is true, when will Tmo's own coverage maps acknowledge it? I don't understand how Tmo's own maps could so grossly understate it?

Leasing is a bargain if you are price conscious, take care of your devices, and always want the newest device.... And one of the majority of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck. If you keep disposable income savings, there will always be a cheaper/happier way to do it. Problem is most Americans don't. If you're willing to use a device that you financed or paid off beyond 24 months, you will always save. Does the average wireless user want to keep using a phone beyond 2 years? No. Be American, Sprint. Lease your heart out!

It seems the trash mags are taking an even more ill tone with Sprint this year than last. http://seekingalpha.com/article/2811845-odds-stacked-against-sprint-in-2015 While price wars can hurt cash on hand and the stock price, almost two years after being acquired by Softbank, Sprint is still glared at as though it is an independent company without backing. Bankruptcy? That isn't looming. Softbank would either attempt to take the remainder of the traded company, sell off unnecessary assets, or attempt another merger having proven that after aggressive competitiveness, consolidation must occur.

Lets hope that frantic "swinging the bat" (as said by a feathery pink magpie) in fear of being #4 in size doesn't come at the expense of speed improvements or organic network growth. Both are "must have" writing on the wall for Sprint, but cost cutting always affects the future. Always. I'm ready to hear timeframe plans for the remaining sites that lack B26 and 2016/2017 plans. Those years are now closer to us than 2015 was when we started talking about NV.

A good case and a glass screen protector go a long way for any phone. The person also determines a lot. I haven't cracked a screen since college (8 years) but cracked 7 screens in 4 years (while in college). I got noticeably more careful when I got $$ conscious. And some people will break or damage anything you give them, eventually.

A 4th place size ranking has not prevented tmobile from realizing massive subscriber growth. Rather, they managed to use the perception as part of their "underdog" appeal. Theoretically, Sprint's fall to #4 doesn't have to have any impact on its future, ESPECIALLY considering its newfound aggressiveness. Given the volatility of the stock price, the announcement will probably burden the stock.... But that is an emotional reaction, not one based on logic about the company's future

Personal experience is unfortunately that the cspire evdo roaming is in patches, not literally everywhere that cspire has coverage but sprint does not.

Although cspire doesn't release subscriber numbers, its count has always been around 1m give or take. If they expect to sell at a premium, the subscriber/network gain is hard to justify in a rural, poor state. Sprints network in MS, or rather lack thereof, has also made them irrelevant for anyone who stays in MS very long. The CSpire branding would need to hang around as an affiliate or sub brand. CSpire is also laying its own fiber in larger cities around the state, which Sprint would have a hard time justifying support for.... Kill that and you have a public interest project going up in flames. Cspire employee word of mouth is that the company has had quite a hard time with growth in the lte era and loses most customers to Verizon.
