  1. Stock buyout? http://www.kansascity.com/news/business/technology/article60579966.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Would be interesting to chart prior growth trends in the 30-60 day window after prior superbowls when Sprint advertised. Sprint has been selling the "Our new network" message for years with varying degrees of success. Its now a message answered commonly with cynicism. Tmobile's advertising is more or less confirming an idea and message about the company that is already synonymous with word of mouth, regardless of reality. Sprint's word of mouth isnt there... Yet. Slowly but surely. I would rather see big marketing dollars spent on local advertising in markets where the network is functioning best and sprint has substantial coverage depth. Those are places where your reach is more likely to be met with positive word of mouth Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Im not convinced that Marcelo has to beat it. Just offer to match the deal for two years and continue to offer unique plans otherwise. Every time TMo does something, everyone goes "whats sprint gonna do??" But once Sprint responds, the vitriol tends to be right behind it. The vitriol will spew at any price Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Arguing about the validity of upgrade fees? Thats one of the oldest revenue drivers in the history of wireless. The wise shopper looks at the total cost of service over a two year period. If the total out of pocket is competitive and the service suits your needs, there is nothing to complain about. Activation and Upgrade fee reduction and removal or reduction has been a carrot used by some carriers to bait people off of two year contracts. Now that two year contracts are mostly gone, there will be a gradual correction back to charging the fees. Sprint's new idea to reduce them but always charge them is smart and more in line with the competition Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Agree. Sprint isnt typically this prompt. In any case, the current perceived "state of affairs" has been created by sparse information and a typical "worst case scenario" speculation that tends to follow everything the carrier does or doesnt do. Its an unfortunate, always negative spin that is often sprints worst enemy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. If so, that represents great negotiation setup. Im going to choose to believe that the current leadership will delicately plan any moves made, meaning the new equipment is installed and ready to flip the switch prior to turning off existing equipment, or that new equipment is fully operating prior to decommissioning sites. Relocation for the purpose of savings would have been a beautiful thing in NV 1.0. By any regard, it has to be less disruptive than the rip and replace we went through otherwise churn is going to surge again. Anecdotal to my market, Sprint has a high traffic site serving a 15k person university and the heart of my city just outside of the boundaries of said university. Seems to have significant down tilt to maximize depth. Less than a 10th of a mile west, on university property, there is a water tower currently being used by two wireless companies at an almost identical height to sprints panels on the nearby tower. So if Sprint could move it to the water tower and save $$, why not? Great idea Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. http://recode.net/2016/01/15/sprint-finalizes-plan-to-trim-network-costs-by-up-to-1-billion/ Hoping this flies under the radar, otherwise we are headed for troll territory Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Hes will def have his eyes where sprint has most of its customers. Sprint is a pretty hard sell in Alabama, even in a place like Birmingham Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I could have done without the "heres our job postings" bit considering Sprint's need to shed employees. It may not represent retail staff reductions, but its a sore subject for most longterm sprint employees im sure Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I dont mind freebies at face value. But the obfuscation it will cause towards competitive data pricing is awful. If all data were treated equally, we should see data buckets slowly grow larger and larger as time progresses. But with this garbage, I expect to see bucket pricing remain stagnant if not go backwards. Verizon will be the first to back what you can get for $100 down from 18GB to 10 GB with "as much Go90 as you can handle!" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. It comes down to how the advertising is worded. If you say "Bring your own device, no contract" then its correct. But as soon as you say "Get a Galaxy S6 for $0 ! Unlimited data! No contract!" then if we apply the same scrutiny that has been sweeping the lending industry since Dodd/Frank and the creation of the CFPB, it certainly qualifies to be considered either as an unfair, abusive, or deceptive act or practice. A contract , in these cases a lending note, is most certainly required to take advantage of the offer. To say "No contract! $99 for a smartphone! Unlimited!" would imply that the phone was bought for $99 and no note required. Lots and lots of magenta advertisements have pandered the no contract statement really, really hard. The writing is on the wall here. Expect this to keep going. Its also not "just a financing agreement" if the note terminates upon ceasing service and is accelerated/ called due in full. There would be stronger basis to call it a financing agreement separate of a commitment to the carrier if the amortization period remained in place without active service. 12. Ive never been able to understand the depicted coverage on the voice map. Even when it was legacy cdma 1900mhz only (prior to NV) the map showed considerable swaths of no coverage between sites on interstates and highways in South MS where i most certainly never roamed and could hold a call without drop. I always figured it was the benefit of cell breathing as a result of very low users per siteFor a shopper worried about voice, Sprint's native voice maps still seem understated. If they could show LTE coverage the same as they show voice (ahem, tmo... Atleast per the casual users perception) that would be far more impressive, whether it was true or not. Tmo has got its users feeling warm and fuzzy about its coverage, no matter how overstated or simplified it is now being depicted Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Im a little lost on the speedtest arguing. Far as im concerned, if you have the pink then binge b!t€h BINGE! Stream like you just got your life seconds ago. Tell everyone else to binge! Show Tmo who is boss, be entitled. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Anything that sources back to "a store employee said" isnt often much to bet your hand on Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Id guess that unless there is a reciprocity agreement that neither costs Sprint additional quarterly expenditure or reduces its roaming revenue, its just not an option in this era of cost cutting and penny pinching. Maybe when sprint has less revenue strain, but not now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Ehh, Cspire has been riding Sprint's LTE outside of its native coverage since the beginning without LTE reciprocity. Im hopeful too, but not excited. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. The conversation trend of trashing Sprint over this promotion is garbage. Until another carrier says "Bring me your shared data rate, I'll charge you half" it's unbeatable. What more impressive promotion could they have offered? Would anything else have mattered? For the haters, no Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. All of this reminds me of the Dan Hesse approach at Sprint. Increase value, create the appearance of quality and customers will accept incremental price increases. Hesse was never a fan of lowering service revenue. Tmo's network gambling demands the revenue increases and perhaps the free for all network flogging will be the impasse for a mega merger or acquisition. But uncarrier? No, sorry, all of it seems oh so calculated Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  19. Considerable new native coverage in Mississippi on the map. Wow. Considering sprint's absence in many of these places, Tmo should do well with rural customers looking for unlimited Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  20. A carrier with no in market roaming bashes another carrier for spending extra money to allow in market roaming? This magentan movement, what does it all mean? I guess you just look down at your "No Service" alert and say " Stick it to the man Tmobile! Yeah!"
  21. The economies of scale of building a 200 acre headquarters which ended up with its own zip code and intentions of housing 14,500 employees probably justified an amphitheatre, sports fields, hiking and biking trails, an air conditioned planetarium, fitness centers, day care, three cafeterias, and luxurious executive suites. And the 10 year tax break Sprint got for the development made it even better. Had Sprint merged with Nextel and seen the "Lets go get Verizon!" line become reality, then the headquarters would probably be even more developed today. It was certainly built based on a different trajectory than Sprint realized and in a time of plentiful funding. But with 6,800 employees left in Overland Park as of late last year, its nice to read that Sprint is renting the vacant space out to other companies. If the commercial rent they're collecting is exceeding the maintenance of the vacant space and funding the maintenance of the amenities, then it cash flows and is a good thing. But if we're reading about cutting maintenance costs at the place, only Sprint really knows. And moving or selling the compound is not good business. As long as the value of commercial real estate languishes in less densely populated areas, the headquarters is a more valuable asset than the actual proceeds collected if it were sold.
  22. Yes. The whole overland park compound is overkill, built in a time of fluff and excess. And it seems many of sprint's most elite were still very gratuitously taking advantage of perks that reek of a time long gone. If theres one thing I would relish in a bankruptcy, its seeing Gary Forsee's $84,000 a month lifetime pension go up in smoke. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  23. ATT will raise those access fees and boost the bucket sizes slightly. Bank on it. The access fee is immune to employee discounts , meaning its the holy grail of driving revenue. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  24. Indeed. He wouldnt be on twitter slamming att customer numbers if sprint's numbers arent gonna impress!! I cant wait. And bring on the hurt for ATT. They can afford to be far more aggressive with pricing. Im also tired of hearing about Next. For Iphones, ATT has the most expensive early upgrade scheme of all of the carriers, verizon included.
