  1. New update showed up on my phone. Downloading now. Expecting it to be the August security patch.

    Update:

The update is now installed and it looks like Samsung just skipped the August patch and went straight to September's. My phone is now showing a Security Patch Level of September 1, 2016. Don't know what else came along for the ride though.

Did you get the new Samsung Cloud option? The N910C got it with the Sept security update?.

  2. Its sad to watch this whole thing play out. This is probably one of the most feature packed and well made devices ever. Also comes at a time that Google has made questionable decisions on the Nexus front.

I want to keep my Note 7, but I'm also worried about its support in for the near term, will it get all those fancy features turned on? (like 4x4 MIMO 256Qam, 3xCA) will we see Android 7 for it? Also its resale value is completely in the gutter.

My device has been running really well and I am pretty happy with it in its current state. But its reputation is tainted beyond repair at this point.

I would probably consider the Pixel XL, but with no wireless charging, no IP67/68 and huge thin its not necessarily an upgrade.

Curious to see what you guys have in mind?

Galaxy S8. ???? I'm skipping the Pixels this time.

  3. Does the quick charging make up for that?

It does but it was still a hassle for me. And the battery life anxiety.

I second the call for Galaxy S7 at least. Water resistance, better camera, and microSD support is great. I sold mine not too long ago.

  4. How is the Galaxy S6 holding up? I'm thinking about getting one from Best Buy for my mom to replace her S4T. 64GB model for only $49.99 (two year contract upgrade).

Only weak point for me was the so-so battery life. Otherwise, it's fast, light, easy to one-hand, and great.

  5. Sprint created plans like ED1500 b/c it made good business sense at the time when they did b/c their network was a lot more inferior back then. I switched over from T-Mobile to Sprint in 2012 only b/c of that plan.

If there are certain individuals on these legacy plans who "abuse" it, all Sprint needs to do is throttle them down after a certain cutoff point after proper disclosure. That way they can both keep their existing customers and ensure good service for the others.

  6. @troyd96 I'm in a similar situation as you and I'd love it too if Sprint would let us keep our ED1500 plan and the 2-yr subsidies. I have a 23% corporate discount and with a total of 4 lines, I pay ~$200 per month after all fees & taxes.

We don't use much data - less than 10 GB per month on average.

  7. I visited San Diego on Thurs & Fri on a mini trip and I was pleasantly surprised by the improvements Sprint had made for LTE coverage. I had access to band 41 at most locations and at those few locations where I only got band 25, the speeds were pretty decent.

Another thing I appreciated was having unlimited data. I was using my Nexus 5X to play YouTube videos for my 1-yr old on Thurs and Fri and in 2 days I blew past by my 5gb limit on my AT&T Straight Talk plan (before the trip, I had 4gb left on my allowance).

  8. Is this phone unlocked if you pay the full purchase price? Meaning you can go to different carriers with this phone?

Yes, if you pay full price. But not all bands may be enabled bc it will have a Sprint rom. At least, that is the case with the Sprint GS7 Edge.

  9. Today is day 2 on the 935U rom and I can report the battery life is better.

Unfortunately, however, flashing the 935U rom doesn't actually DSU the phone. I tried with my AT&T SIM card & I got an Invalid SIM message.

There is no detriment to voice, text, and data services. Carrier aggregation works as before on the Sprint rom & the speeds are the same.
