  1. According to a Best Buy employee on the XDA forums (with a proven track record), people who preordered the GS7 in-store can pick up the phone early this coming Monday. Hoping it's true. I got my GS7 Edge case today & I'll probably pick up a film screen protector right at Best Buy to hold me over until glass ones come out.

  2. Sprint has been so good lately on my S6E that I hardly find myself using the Nexus 5X on AT&T as a backup device for when I need data. Back when I carried a Galaxy S4 & the Nexus 5, phone usage was split 60% S4 and 40% Nexus 5. With my S6E and N5X combo, it's 90% S6E and 10% N5X.

With pure android boring for me & the N5X being a general disappointment, I think I'll just sell the N5X and use it toward the 2016 Nexus later.

  3. This looks interesting. Looks like a smarter version of Doze.

It automatically disables background apps from doing stuff if you haven't used them for 3/5/7 days (selectable).

I haven't heard of this on the Galaxy S6. New feature?

That feature has been a part of TouchWiz for a while. It's available in the n910c international model Galaxy Note 4 on Lollipop. The USA carriers just removed that nice feature for some stupid reason.

  4. I dont know where you got that information but its incorrect. Your plan and your purchase option are 2 seperate things, whether you do a 2 year contract, lease or eib the plan stays the same if you want to stay on a legacy plan and your phone payment goes on top of the plan if you lease/eib. On that plan you would be entitled to a $10 credit on a lease.

Im sure at one time some one tried to talk you into a new plan because for a while sprint paid us to do so. Marcelo changed that and now a corp employee doesnt give a f*ck how you buy your phone because we get paid the same no matter.

That's good to know. I assume you work for Sprint right now? If so, I have a question.

Even if I'm not out of my current 2-yr contract, can I join the Galaxy Forever program & get a new phone? And I get to keep my ed1500 plan?

  5. Anybody that has the GS6 going to try to get the GS7? If so, how are you going about it (since the GS6 just came out last year and you are probably still on a contract/lease/installment plan)?

I leased my GS6 in Dec, when they had that Xmas lease special.

I'm the account holder of a 5-line family plan with 2 lines eligible for 2-yr upgrades. I'm using one of the upgrades for the S7E. Best Buy did it for me no problem.

    Then selling my S6E.

  6. If you guys are upgrading so often, have you looked into the galaxy forever program? What are the cost/benefits to that?

I don't see that in your lists.

AFAIK, choosing the Galaxy Forever program entails me giving up my unlimited ED1500 plan for a lease plan, which I nor my line members want to do. Paying $50 for unlimited everything is too good to give up.

  7. So these were my options when it comes to getting the S7E before my contract end date & paying the $299.99 subsidy price.

    1. Pay the $250 early upgrade fee & sell my S6E back to Sprint for a $225 bill credit. Then start a new 2-yr contract.

This option sucks b/c I'm getting shorted on the selling price of the S6E.

    2. Buy the phone full price.

    3. Pay $260 ETF to buy out my contract and within 45 days come back to Sprint as a "new" customer & start a new 2-yr contract. After 45 days, my phone number will be recycled then become lost to me.

    4. Use an upgrade from one of the 2 eligible lines.

I decided to go with option 4. It's the least hassle and it costs me the least amount of money (I have a $250 Best Buy giftcard and I recently made $270 from selling my old Note 3). And my mom is okay with me using her upgrade b/c she's perfectly happy with her Note 3 still.

And the good news is I can sell my S6E at a price I'm happy with.

Hope this info helps those in a similar situation to me.

  8. Did you buy out your contract?

Sprint online has a habit of telling you you're eligible when in reality they're referring to a 2-year lease.

All that matters is when you click on Contract Details it says you're done (or within 4 months).

I would be curious about that as well. I have 4 phones whose plans are up between 5/15 and 7/15. I don't want to lease. Unfortunately, I think I'm SOL to get anything now unless I do a lease, unless what optumummind has done would somehow work for me.

I was only able to do an upgrade at Best Buy via the "alternate" option b/c I have 2 lines that are out of contract & I used one of theirs. Otherwise, I was told by Best Buy to wait until march 1st 2017 to upgrade my line.

I'm on hold with Sprint right now & things aren't going smoothly. At first, they told me I could start a new 2-yr contract & get discount pricing if I pay first the $250 early upgrade fee. Now I'm being told that in addition to paying the $250 upgrade fee, I also have to sell my S6E back to Sprint for a $225 credit on my bill. That's BS b/c I can get way more than that for my 64GB mint condition S6E.

So when I told them that I didn't want to turn in my S6E, they said I have to buy out my contract by paying $260 but I'll lose my phone number. Then a different CS lady tells me that's not true & I won't lose my phone number. Friggin frustrating...

I'll update later with the end result.

  9. I walked in to Best Buy today with the intention of preordering the S7 Edge in silver titanium but ended up ordering the black onyx instead (I dislike black phones in general). The Samsung rep let me play around with both the black & silver models (untethered) and I found the silver models to be too appliance-like and cheap-looking. I thought my S6E gold platinum was a bit too gaudy but the silver titanium was even worse. And a huge fingerprint magnet despite being lighter colored.

I'm really bummed that there isn't a white color option at this time.

As for the design and feel, the S7E felt great & looked stunning. With curves on both the front & back, the phone is easier to grip and with smoother curves going toward the frame, the harsh edge causing slight discomfort is no longer an issue.

I had to upgrade via the alternate line method b/c Sprint's early upgrade authorization wasn't visible on the Best Buy system. I'm gonna cancel my Best Buy preorder & upgrade at a Sprint store so I don't take up someone's upgrade and so I can release my S6E from its current contract. That way, I can sell my S6E now rather than waiting until March of 2017.

  10. I wonder if Samsung will do something similar to Apple and sell the "US" variant directly to consumers via full price or monthly payments and offer an upgrade after one year. If so, it would be great for people upgrading every year.

I wonder, if one initially buys the Sprint S7 (P variant) and gets it DSU'ed down the line, will it have the same number of bands as the "US" variant? Both scenarios being true would be great.

  11. I'm still a GS4 user. I can get at my simcard still. How is that handled with these phones that don't have removable batteries? Is that externally accessible like the SD card will be or do you have to dismantle the phone as if for repair (how is that done -screws, snap latch removable back, etc?) to replace one?

Now that I think about it, what about all the traditional labeling? Is there a data-plate with model serial, etc like in the battery compartment of the GS4? Is that external or under some other service cover?

Can an owner replace parts like I can with the GS4? I replaced my usb port module once and that was cheap and handy to be able to do.

I also just posted a question on the FCC article. Where are we at as far as VOLTE support goes? Do any of the latest generation phones have an indication that Sprint is closer to implementing a VOLTE system yet?

Is there any other provision for simultaneous voice and B41 LTE data capability with these phones?

    -Thanks.

VoLTE is still far away for Sprint, as usual for Sprint.

The SIM card is on the outside housing.

  12. My enthusiasm for the S7 & S7E lessened a bit after 2 leaks - similar design to the S6 family and marginal improvement in Geekbench scores. I might not preorder this time around but wait after the launch.

  13. Looking at gs7, did the gs 6 release the same time as the other carriers' version or was there a delay?

Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk

Same time as other USA carriers. T-Mobile & AT&T preorders were sent out a bit earlier than Sprint. Verizon had the longest delay.

  14. Man, I think 4GB is more than enough, but I'm on a 1080p screen running 2GB on a Nexus, with literally no bloat, aside from Google's Apps. I wouldn't mind 8GB, but I think it's too soon to expect manufacturers to put that much ram into a compact size.

Yea, I think 6GB will come first before 8GB does.

  15. Yes. I get that and already anticipated that. Thus the original question:

"What's the selling point on the Edge - outside of the gee-whiz factor? "

My only takeaway is that nothing it does different is useful as a matter of operational practice and there is no other trade off for the increased danger to the screen being damaged. I'm unintentionally abusive to phones because I use them so much.

After shattering the screen on my original GS4 (corner drop on pavement) and getting the phone replaced on the protection plan - I bought a Speck (RUBBER ARMOR) case and have had great luck ever since -even with multiple repeats of the event. The replacement phone Sprint sent me was a half-assed refurb that I ended up personally replacing the USB port on and I should have replaced the less than perfect home button while I was at it.

I'd prefer to keep my next phone protected from the start so I don't have to replace it again and get another beat up unit.

Not much extra functionality that most people probably don't care for. Everyone I know personally who has the S6E, got it for aesthetic reasons only.

Per sammobile, the upcoming M update is supposed to bring more functionality for the Edge but it probably won't lure in people who look for function over form.

  16. There are more than two worlds. Durability is a big part of my world -far bigger than unique looks in a phone.

I perceive art as being at the expense of durability as it limits the use of armor. Outdoors and workshops aren't friendly to phone screens. Edge limits durability which isn't your world.

Thus my question. What is that opportunity cost? Asked and answered. I prefer durability over art. Functionality is no different unless you wish to change your answer.

Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk

Yea, I don't care for built-in "armor" and ruggedness. I did add a curved glass screen protector on the front & a film protector on the back for protection.

I don't look for art in a phone either. I like slick, futuristic-looking designs, which the S6E satisfied for me.

  17. I compare phones to multi-tools and Swiss army knives. Mine is a useful tool for getting things done, not art.

I'll skip that version then. Thanks.

I want best of both worlds - latest specs plus looks.
