  1. Maybe because my phone is the 955U1 Unlocked Model, I'm not experiencing any major or even moderate issues.  For me, I'm just having trouble with 2 apps that keeps losing focus and kicking me out to the Homescreen after a few minutes (Flipboard and News on Android).  I have about 190 apps installed.

And, of course, the battery drain rate is worse than Nougat but that was to be expected.

  2. yeah, I had some FC on a lot of apps, but a reboot and letting it sit a while and now I don't have any FCs. So far so good.

I just registered about 15 minutes ago, restarted, then immediately downloaded the update.

    In on the sprint model

Weird lol, restarted and checked and I can download it now.

Just installed it, seems to be running decent gonna restart and do a cache wipe.

Can you guys report the issue to Samsung on behalf of 950U1 & 955U1 Unlocked users with a Sprint SIM card inside the Samsung Users Beta Feedback app?

Many of us successfully enrolled into the Beta program but we aren't getting the Beta software. It seems to affect only the 950U1 & 955U1 GS8 users with a Sprint SIM.

    Thanks in advance.

It seems the update is not being pushed to Sprint users on the unlocked model.  I hope that changes soon.   I really do not want to need to flash back to Sprint fw.

I am on 955U1, no updates yet.

Still no Beta update for me as of 9:50 pm PST. I registered at 10:15 am. [emoji47]

  4. All you people who successfully registered into the Beta program and have downloaded the software, are you guys on the Sprint GS8/GS8+?  Is anyone on the 955U1 Unlocked Model?

I made it into registration but my 955U1 GS8+ doesn't find the Beta update.  I tried restarting the phone already.  I got in around 10:15 AM PST.

My 18 month old S7 has officially bit the dust. Local repair shop says the main board is toast. Sprint techs telling me the same thing. No drops or water ... just quit working all of a sudden. Interesting that the report I got is that the display flex was creased and nearly severed.

Samsung is really pushing the boundaries of squeezing stuff into these geometries. I think I'm done with Galaxy devices.

Looking at the Pixel 2. Smaller battery than the S8, but maybe that means it's cutting fewer corners on the mechanical side of the design shop.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

Sorry to hear your GS7 has died.  Has this kind of premature death happened to many of your Samsung phones?

If you don't want a Samsung phone anymore, I think your idea about getting the Pixel 2 is a good idea (not the XL).  Fast  & 3-years-long Google updates, great camera, good screen, and front-facing speakers.

So overall, how is everybody liking the GS8?  I'm thinking about getting one in the next month or 2.

I love my Unlocked GS8+ (Blue Coral).  No Sprint bloat, no other bloat, and everything is snappy and fast.  No battery issues.  No issues at all, really.

I'm just looking forward to the Oreo update.

So yeah I think I have come to the conclusion that I am throwing this phone on swappa, tired of it freezing up for no reason requiring a hard restart. Note 5 never did it once doing a simple thing such as texting, it happens at least once or twice a week it's being doing it since I got it. Every app is asleep besides vital ones so nothing is using power when I don't have it running so it's not an app. I've just had enough at this point. Or I can give it to my nephew and use the other upgrade for something else maybe an iPhone lol. :(

Have you tried a Factory Reset?

  8. I've had my Unlocked Coral Blue GS8+ since end of July and it's still going strong.  No software issues or weird shenanigans.  I attribute a lot of that to being on the Unlocked 955U1 firmware.  I still kept my 935U Galaxy S7 Edge and it too is going strong on the Unlocked firmware.

I think most of these issues are coming from Sprint messing with the ROM too much with their bloat and other crap.

The only issue I've had so far was when Google updated their Google app, my battery began to drain a lot faster - ~5%/hr instead of the normal ~2%/hr.  A simple reboot took care of that.  Google is still my NUMBER ONE enemy for battery life.  I"m hoping Oreo will take care of Google.

  9. Anyone else having this issue? "Ok Google" voice commands do not work when the phone is plugged in & charging. The prompt appears but when I speak, it's as if the microphone isn't working. Off the charger, everything works fine.

  10. If not the 950U1 and G955U1 can be made to work... see my post above. Lots of steps but possible. My phone is a converted U1 that I use. Hopefully they do bring it to the U1 though...

Calling Plus isn't enticing enough for me to flash the Sprint 955U ROM. ????

  11. Update: After putting a full days work traveling around my city and the surrounding area and using LTE calling, I'm impressed. No dropped calls, all outgoing calls connected instantly, crystal clear voice, had a few of my Verizon friends ask me if I got a new phone because I sounded much clearer on their end. Can't wait for full blown VoLTE.

Sounds promising. Hopefully the 955U1 GS8+ will get that update as well.

  12. Today I was at the Zara clothing store inside South Coast Plaza - a known Sprint deadzone for both voice & data - and to my surprise, I got an alert from SignalCheck Pro that I was connected to Sprint 1x800 voice.

And going deeper inside the store, I didn't lose voice nor data this time.  SignalCheck Pro reported that I was still on B41.

I guess Sprint is making improvements to this area.  I've sent several reports to Sprint about this dead zone through their app.

  13. Remember that HPUE is only for B41, and only the uplink. Unless these dead spots and drops to 3G go straight from B41 to EVDO or nothing, HPUE won't make a difference for those areas.

I suppose you're right but it sure is getting frustrating waiting on Sprint to demonstrate perceivable improvements in the areas where competitors have either improved or are doing well already.

Back on the topic of GS8, the phone is slowly but surely winning me over despite my initial reluctance and skepticism to upgrade from my GS7E. The GS7E is now with my mother and her old Note 3 has become one of my backup phones.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the TGSP situation is a lot better for the GS8 family than it was for the GS7 family. I purchased a case-friendly TGSP from Otium on Amazon and it was a perfect fit with no loss of touch sensitivity & no "rainbow smear" artifacts.

For the back glass, I've protected it with a clear film from IQ Shield.

As long as I have a case on it, finding & using the FPS has been a nonissue.

  14. Keep in mind you can always update your SM-G955U to SM-G955U1 unlocked version... In the long run I think the Sprint version will get more updated. The unlocked version usually only gets quarterly. At least that is how it was with the S7... I think the S8 caught the end of the quarter and thats why it has July security patch. You can go back and forth though...

It is still too early to congratulate Samsung but since March, the U GS7E has been getting updates monthly. Same for the 955U1 GS8. Samsung has, so far, improved their support for the USA Unlocked models.

Little by little, they're catching up to Apple's standards.

  15. I'm still wondering why we haven't been updated to the July security patch, every other carrier has been updated afaik.

That's a surprise since even the 955U1 has been already updated.

  16. Tested out the GS8+ & its HPUE ability inside the Mission Viejo mall and its known dead and 3G spots. There were no improvements at all. I brought along my 910C unlocked Note 4 with a T-Mobile mint SIM card and I had strong LTE all around despite the phone not supporting Band 12.

I'm getting more certain I'll be leaving Sprint once the remaining 2 lines are finally out of contract. Band 26 would've been good to have but Mexico....

  17. Question for you guys. B41 is no longer listed on Samsung's website for the unlocked model why?

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

But it is supported regardless. Don't know why they would remove such info. I'm connected to B41 right now.
