  1. Tried taking the update again after restoring via Odin but got stuck again at the Sprint screen. Currently on my third attempt after making a few changes - disabled Data Saver, Power Saving, and uninstalled the Package Disabler.

  2. Here in SoCal, my LTE reception performance got worse after the official 7.0 update. At the same locations & at the same time, my wife's & mom's iPhone SE and Note 3 get LTE whereas I only get 3G at some spots.

Anyone else with worse LTE reception?

  3. Those that did the Galaxy Beta got 7.0. But I wonder if the latest security update that was mentioned by SamMobile was included in it or if its a separate download.

    TS

AT&T & T-Mobile both got the 7.0 update which includes the Feb security update. I'm surprised Sprint is so slow to release this time around.

  4. LOL... A lot of people choosing any carrier do a cost benefit analysis for value for their money versus quality of service. A lot of people stuck with Sprint even though the data on the network is slower and in my area a lot more dead spots even for usable cell service(voice).

The data is still slower than other carriers in my market, but I'm fine with that for the unlimited data and getting a nice phone for $200 or so every two years.

Based on my corporate discount the legacy plans and subsidized phones every 2 years is cheaper over that 2 years versus doing a cost analysis of any lease, easy pay, or buying a new premium phone outright with any new sprint plan. Not to mention my legacy plan allows me to have unthrottled data versus the new plans marketing term of "video and audio optimization" which is just a glorified word for throttling certain aspects of your data usage.

The savings my family gets from being on the legacy plan (ED1500) and subsided phones is such a great amount we have never even thought about going to another carrier. In 1.5 years when my lines come out of contract the cost saving of sprint is now no longer as appealing and I can easily pay the same or just a little bit more for a better network in my market. So at that point the cost/benefit analysis comes into play once again.

I am like another poster. I don't get why people are more for Sprint succeeding versus their own financial benefit and well being. I want Sprint to succeed but if they make business decisions that end up making them lose their advantage for me using them then I have no issues finding a new company if it makes financial sense to do so. That is capitalism at its finest.

Never understood the vibe on this forum about Sprint being more important than the consumer.

Well said. I own Sprint stock but I still want 2-yr contracts.

And I chose Sprint during the ED1500 days for the value it offered me & stayed b/c of its value. If the value lessens, as it has with no more 2-yr contract options, that's when I will switch for a carrier that offers a better network & more phone and wearable choices for very similar pricing.

  5. Stupid decision. Sprint is probably the least friendly BYOD carrier, so taking away purchasing options is not in their best interest.

I'm taking my 5 lines elsewhere. Sprint is no longer worth the value IMO. Subsidies were the only thing making Sprint viable, even with slow speeds. I'm going to call to see if I can buy out my contract and unlock all of my phones for domestic use before leaving.

Yea, me too. After my existing contracts are over, I'll be going over to AT&T. I get even better discounts through my employer & AT&T is GSM, already has VoLTE, I can use international phones, and AT&T has superior wearable support. For 2 years in a row, Sprint didn't offer the LTE versions of the Samsung Gear watches which was disappointing.

  6. Sprint only will offer it to you on a reactive basis. Meaning if you call and ask for it you will get it. Just make sure you are specific that you want a 2 year subsidized phone with no change to your legacy plan.

And it's still available online when I launch into Sprint from my employer's wireless discount website.

  7. I'm loving the beta overall. There are many bugs though. For instance, after a normal reboot, all of my apps' Accessibility settings get forgotten & I have to toggle them back on again. Once in a while after a reboot, my QHD display setting gets changed to FHD.

And sometimes the phone doesn't connect automatically to my home WiFi networks and I have to select manually.

Besides these issues, the beta is great. Smooth, fast, and stable. I haven't experienced any abnormal crashes or reboots.

As for battery life, it's slightly worse for me b/c I can no longer use Greenify's Doze on the Go feature and it takes the rom longer to enter Doze.

  8. Really strange. My wife's G4 exhibits the exact same behavior I was getting on the s7 previously. My dad's G5 has done the same in the past, but I can't test that one immediately.

Anyone else have or not have this issue?

Edit: found a reference to others experiencing the same thing I did on another forum. I'm not sure why there would be inconsistencies like this, but oh well. Just glad it is finally working in my case.

Maybe it has to do with different WiFi router configurations?

Even when I use a thirdparty app like Textra & use its option for mms over WiFi, it still works. Same for Google Messenger.

  9. Odd.. I tested it very thoroughly on all the various updates since the s7 dropped and could never get it to send or receive until now. Are you sure you've had radios disabled when you tested it? In my experience it kept a data connection alive and sent SMS that way unless you specifically put it on airplane mode and then enabled WiFi/wifi calling.

Yes. I turn off Mobile Data until I need it when I'm not at home. At home, my phone is only connected to WiFi with Data off.

You're the first Sprint person I'm aware saying that WiFi over SMS didn't work.

  10. Well this is nice to see! Looks like the nougat update bringa with it working SMS over wifi. I've been able to send and receive SMS with all my radios shut off (save wifi of course). Now I should finally have a fully functional phone when I'm on the second level basement at work for hours on end. Huzzah!

SMS over WiFi was always working for me - 935P ROMs, 935U ROMs, and now the 7.0 Nougat beta.
