  1. Tried to register my Chase cards today (have four of them. Chase isn't supported. Awesome.

I contacted Chase & they said support is coming but didn't say when. Maybe you can email them too. Perhaps if lots of people reach out to them, things might get sped up.

  2. For those of you who have had the phone from the start, how is the battery holding up?

Still giving a full day use?

I'm day 1 preorder user and so far, I'm getting 3 & 1/2 to 4 hrs SOT, in a 16 hrs time period on 5.1.1 OI1, no root.

I used to get more when I used to be on 5.0.2 with the pingpong Root with battery-saving root apps (5 hrs SOT).

  3. My reception is fine, it's just the damn mobile radio bug that is killing my battery.

Sad that Google wasn't able to fix it from M Preview 3. That bug is what got me to go back to 5.1.1.

  4. It worked for you at Costco? I tried samsung pay MST with my Amex and the swipe terminal said card read error, there was a long line behind me, so I didn't want to hold the line up and just swipe the card

    Yes, it worked first try.

But on some terminals, I have to do it a second or third time, although it's rare.

  5. So far, Samsung Pay has bee a lot of fun using, mostly due to the cashiers' funny and surprised reactions. I've so far used it successfully at Walmart, Target, Smart & Final, H-Mart, Costco, CVS, and Autozone. Only place it failed was TJ Maxx.

  6. Any reason to dump a GS6 for the N5X, specs/performance wise? The Nexus is obviously the winner as far as software goes.

As for me, I'm keeping my S6E & getting the 2015 N5 as well. Sold my N5 2013 already & will be ordering the new one as soon as the preorder goes up. Gonna run it on AT&T again.

  7. For those of you that have had the S6 or S6edge from near launch day, can you please discuss

    • any pet peeves with the S6 or S6edge?
    • has the phone slowed down after months of usage? (camera or apps take longer to open, multitasking button takes longer to pop up) - very concerned about this one as it seems to plague Samsung phones after a few months
    • have you had days where the battery dies very quickly for no apparent reason? (classic samsung)
    • any issues with bluetooth streaming music, etc.
S6 edge users, was the edge worth it? Do you use any of those features besides it looking very neat?

I think I've finally seen all the phones I'd consider for the year (with rumors) and I'm not impressed by the lack of some features like WiFi calling on the upcoming Nexus as well as the MotoX Pure. I'm not thrilled at all about the non-removable battery on the S6 and lack of waterproofing, but I think it's inevitable that this is still the best phone. I am going to go compare the S6 and the Note 5 in stores, Best Buy has some sales now on the S6. I swore off Samsung up and down, but honestly the screens and cameras make it hard to stay away, even with the duplicative services and Samsung bloat. I've looked at the LG G4 and the size is too big for my tastes and LG's software is meh. They're slow on updates too. Samsung and Sprint aren't terrible. If the subsidized phone is leaving Sprint in 2016, I'll have to use mine before the end of this year. Might as well get a few more months out of it anyways.

Got my S6E early on preorder & I still love this phone. Currently, I'm on stock, rooted OE2 5.0.2. As a result, it's probably not as smooth as on the latest 5.1.1 firmware but there has been nothing wrong or annoying for me on 5.0.2.

I consistenly get about 4 hrs of SOT, the camera still snaps open pretty fast, and multitasking has been good. The widely reported RAM issue pops up once in a while but it hasn't been annoying enough for me to take the 5.1.1 update.

No regrets getting this phone. I'd still choose this over the S6E Plus and the Note 5.

  8. Today the Dev reached out & he performed the DSU remotely via my PC.

He used adb & custom apk to send a Profile update to my S6E to DSU it.

It worked as promised but I wasn't able to connect to AT&T LTE band 2 nor band 4 despite my S6E having support for it. My N5 gets both band 4 & band 17 at the same location at home.

There is a catch though. I can't perform a Profile update as my phone will become locked again.

  9. There is now a paid service option to get the S6 & S6E ISU'ed and DSU'ed. It costs $50 & it seems to be done through an app the dev sends you. I bought it just today but I'm not expecting delivery until tomorrow at the earliest due to the 4th.

  10. Hey guys, anyone had this happen? Getting no mobile data but SCP shows I'm connected. Tried restarting, toggling off data, airplane mode, etc... All to no luck.

    Any thoughts guys?

Did you try updating PRL & Profile then rebooting?

  11. As comfortable as I am messing with software like ROMs and using command lines (I am a firmware engineer by profession), and as comfortable as I am installing new RAM or a new HDD/SSD in a laptop or building a new desktop from scratch, I am just not comfortable popping open a phone that's not meant to be popped open by a normal consumer. That's just me. If you're fine and happy going that route, all the power to you, and I'm glad you're able to squeeze more life into the device.

As I've said before, it's a great device. And even though I now have a G4, I am definitely keeping the Nexus 5 for messing around with (I already installed the Android M preview as soon as my G4 was loaded with every app I frequently use). I'm hoping the next Nexus 5 is going to be just as good for anyone going that route.

I'm not even in the software or hardware industry - I work at CVS pharmacy counting pills! - and it was pretty easy swapping out the battery? XD

I have plenty experience, though, building my own rigs & disassembling laptops for CPU swap, thermal paste reapplication, and heatsink & fan replacement.

  12. I highly agree with the Nexus 5 statement, but the Nexus 7 statement, I'm kind of on the fence. On one hand, it's definitely the best tablet that came with the Nexus name, and the Nexus 9 was just disappointing. On the other hand, my Nexus 7 has slowed down so much after Lollipop, I haven't really used it anymore.

I'll actually be jumping ship to the LG G4 either today or tomorrow. As much as I love my Nexus 5, its battery life is really what irks me, and LG's G series has had much better luck with battery life. Even still, I'm actually planning on keeping my Nexus 5 as a secondary device until it dies. It's just that good.

I fell in love with my N5 all over again after getting 5.1.1 and putting in a new battery especially. The original battery was giving me only 2 hrs SOT after 18 months. With the new one in place, it's about 5 hrs SOT.

  13. Have any of you guys paid full price for the s6? The question I'm getting at is, is the phone unlocked and able to be used on T-Mobile or AT&T?

I paid full price on Sprint from Best Buy. How do I check if it's unlocked?

AFAIK, you have to contact Sprint & ask them for the domestic unlock. It doesn't seem to be automatic.
