Was this the policy on release day or was it something sprint implemented over time?
Edit, with respect to the unlocketds8 specifically
Yes, but they listed the Unlocked models as "Special Edition" models for the GS7 & GS8 families.

I'm using the Coral Blue GS8+ 955U1 right now on Sprint just fine. CA works, as well as WiFi calling (although I don't use it).
Sprint Chat had no issue activating my phone. I just had to stop by a corporate store to pick up a free compatible SIM card.

Most likely because I'm coming from a GS7E on the U firmware, I'm not really blown away by the GS8+. Already thinking about selling it as soon as the GS9 comes out.

That's the color I would have love to get a month ago when I had to get a new phone when my S7 kissed the concrete floor.

Ouch. You didn't have any protection on the phone?
As for my GS7E, I gave it to my mom. She was still using the 2013 Galaxy Note 3.

Can you finance the unlocked model?
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
You can if you buy with a Best Buy credit card. I use the Best Buy credit for 5% rewards.
After all of my gift certificates & gift card, I only paid $420. ????

I drove to Zion market in Irvine but I didn't connect to Band 26 LTE nor 800 MHz voice, despite setting band priority to Band 26.
At least in LA, I connect to 800 MHz voice.

Is there really LTE 800 in Irvine? I see a TOY site by John Wayne airport on the map & another site by Zion Market.

It over heats and slows down...I don't know what to do

Have you tried a factory reset? Or try flashing the 935U firmware. It's great. Faster, smoother, less bloat, and better battery life.

is it usual for the S7 Edge to overheat and slow down and the battery to drain quickly?
Not for me. I've had my GS7E since March 7th of 2016.

How much for the plan?
Sent from my 2PQ93 using Tapatalk
There are 5 of us in the ED1500 plan. After discounts, we each pay ~$47.

Sprint just today sent an offer for the S8 ($200) & S8+ ($300) with 2-yr committment for my line too. Gonna get the phone now. ????

My guess is he flashed firmware from the unlocked variant which works without any issues since they are signed by Samsung. If he used that method, it will most definitely fail the firmware checks in the Sprint OTA file. We'll see if that's how he did it, though.
On the Sprint GS7E, however, flashing with the Unlocked model 935U did not DSU the phone. The DSU had to be performed first, flashed to 935U, then other GSM SIM cards worked.

The unlocked GS8/GS8+ is now available for pre-order from Best Buy and Samsung. Is anyone going to go with this version?
I'll get it once Coral Blue comes out.

Flashed my phone to the Nougat 935U ROM and it's great! So nice not having so much bloatware.

Sprint recently sent me an "exclusive" offer for me to get the S8 for $200 or the S8+ for $300 after signing up for the 2-yr IB plan. So in a way, they've brought back the 2-yr subsidy pricing. Only problem is that they sent this offer not to my primary phone line but to my sister-in-law's. I have the legacy ED1500 plan.
I called to see if they could transfer this offer to my line but they wouldn't.

Location and mobile data are on but bluetooth is off. Auto brightness. It took about 30 hours until I put it on a charger which is something I have never experienced with a phone before.

I'm getting that kind of battery life WITH my Android Wear watch connect to it all day. Srsly, with a battery like this, I'm not sure I care so much about the charging.....I navigate around town now with Google Maps, streaming music with Android Auto keeping the screen on and don't even plug it in. Ridiculous!
Did you guys upgrade from the GS7E?

Only battery issue is the fact that there is only a 10 min difference between regular charging and fast charging. But battery life has been incredible! This was yesterday.

Over how many hours of usage? Also, with all toggles turned on? (BT, location, data, etc)

There's a Samsung repair center in Los Angeles? What did you have to tell them. Will they do the pink line repair there too?
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
I told them my battery life is unusually bad and that it drains really fast. They put in a new battery and flashed the phone to the latest Nougat rom.
Pink line warranty should be no problem.

Drove to the Samsung repair center in Los Angeles & got a new battery for free under warranty. Battery life is amazing now!

Well so far impressed with battery life. I'm at 20hrs with 4%left. Still trying to get use to the smaller phone over note 5. I got that s8 should of done s8 plus
After 20 hrs, what was your SOT?
-------------------
Can you guys with the S8 or S8+ share your SOT after 17 to 19 hrs of phone usage since full charge?

I ended up reverting back to the latest Marshmallow 935U rom. Hate the worse battery life of the Nougat roms.

Samsung again fails with its limited color choices. You'd think they would offer the coral blue color option from the get-go after seeing how well-received the color was. I'm holding back on getting the GS8P until an unlocked coral blue variant is released.

Does "software locked" mean it won't take a ATT SIM?
Correct. you'll first have to DSU the phone.

But only the 955U1 IMEIs can be used across all carriers. Carrier models flashed to 955U1 won't work across all carriers. For instance, you can't use Verizon, T-Mobile, & AT&T GS8 flashed to 955u1 on Sprint b/c Sprint won't add the IMEI into their system.
Verizon flashed to 955U1 can be used on all carriers except Sprint.
Buying a true 955U1 model GS8 is the best overall option.
