  1. What's the selling point on the Edge - outside of the gee-whiz factor?

I have my GS4 in a speck case and love it. I'd rather have a good case vs being able to see a curved screen edge. Doesn't that create more of a potential for damage?

Any insight on what the benefit is that I'm missing?

    ====================

The first specification sheets for similar devices have gone up.

It's for the sexy factor. It pleases my eyes when I take out & look at my phone and when I handle it. Like my preference for curvy women over chopstick-like figures. ????

    I don't mind paying a price premium.

  2. How were you able to add a Chase credit/debit card? Chase is not one of the participating banks. That was a sticking point for me.

    AJ

It was added for me automatically, as well as my other 2 cards - Discover and a school's union debit card.

I think it was b/c I used to use Chase in the old Google Wallet app and I have a history of purchases. That's why it's still showing the thirdparty Bancorp agreement page during setup.

  3. My experience was quite smooth. I opened the app, hit the + sign, and my 3 cards saved over from Wallet were already there. I chose Chase, agreed to the Bancorp agreement, and the card got added after a few seconds of verification.

Went to McDonald's, tapped and paid.

Has anyone received any word yet from Google?

  4. I like it so far. The camera starts up quicker. The screen looks great. I like the fingerprint reader (though I hardly use it).

I don't like the embedded battery and the lack of SD card slot. And it's fast, but still has the few lags in certain apps like the S5 did. So far, the battery life doesn't seem that different from the S5 to me.

But one of the main reasons I switched was b/c of the addition of the newer LTE bands for roaming. I will be going to eastern NC soon and no Sprint coverage there.

You should try Samsung Pay, it's really cool & easy to use. There are also several Samsung Pay promotions going around right now.

  5. I've heard that Verizon speeds are throttled more on ST vs at&t on ST. Probably way better coverage with Verizon though.

That seems to be true so far. On ST AT&T, the highest DL speed I got was around 40 mbps. On Verizon, the highest DL I've seen is 6 mbps. Not surprised knowing it's Verizon, the greediest & least generous of all USA carriers.

  6. I've been hearing reports of the 5X having alot of lag sometimes. Have any of you guys had that problem?

Starting to wonder if I should hold off on the 5X too...

How is battery life on the 5X, specifically typical screen on time?

I get lag & stuttering once in a while. No root, OEM ROM. I get lags while using Chrome, YouTube, and sometimes when switching between apps and opening apps. Kinda surprised it has not been much better than my old N5.

My SOT ranges between 3.5 to 4.5 hrs.

  7. I hope the doze function in marshmallow works well on the s6. I've read that it did help on the nexus series.

It does work well but not if your phone is in your pocket and you're constantly moving around, which I think it's dumb. On my 5X, I lose about 3% per hr with the phone in my pocket.

Data, WiFi, location, and GPS on.

  8. I just got the S6 Friday night and I'm appalled by batter life (from the S4). It seems to just drain before my eyes with any kind of use. I don't stream anything. Limited video usage. Mostly texting/FB/FB messenger. I'm actually thinking of returning it. Any advice? This is highly disappointing. I did tweak a lot of settings, turned stuff off, disabled/uninstalled all the crap. . . Running in power save mode *all* the time. :(

Try replacing Facebook with Tinfoil. Should make a battery difference.

  9. I'm sure their advertising department is gonna love your search and browsing history haha.

I've gotten 110 mbps....on my WiFi! haha Was that speed on CA? I've gotten 75mpbs on B41 no CA in Orange County.

There is CA in Orange at Tustin & Katella in the CVS plaza. I pulled 87.12 Mbps there.

  10. I'm still getting just awful battery life out of my s6 edge.

I purposely kept it off the charger today to see. I'm at 14 pct right now with only 1 hr 20 min of screen on time.

Anybody else seeing battery life this poor?

After 5.1.1 OI1, my SOT got worse. It went from about 4 & 1/2 hrs to 3 & 1/2 hrs. I'm hoping 6.0 Marshmallow will bring back the battery life.

  11. Ugh! My 5x has a rattling noise if you shake it and it's not the power or volume buttons (coming from the camera area) which is really noticeable...

Ugh... gotta contact google support to see if I can get a replacement I suppose.

That's definitely not normal as my N5X has no rattling noise when shaken. Hope the device replacement is smooth and easy for you.

  12. The 5X was the easiest new phone activation I have ever had with Sprint. I didn't even have to chat. Good job Sprint!

Anyone else notice the USB Type C cable is really hard to disconnect? I thought I was going to break the phone unplugging the cable.

    Same here.

Last night, after connecting the charger to the phone, I semi-freaked out BC the phone wouldn't charge. The charging issue was resolved by inserting the end that used to be connected to the charger into the phone. The charging port is making me feel wary.

  13. I'll share some pictures I took today after first opening up the package.

Just like some reviews have pointed out, the fingerprint unlocking is REALLY fast.  Can't even see the lockscreen.  I'm still getting used to the fingerprint position on the back.  I never liked it on the LG G series.  I'm sure I'll get used to it.

The phone feels almost exactly the same as the white Nexus 5 from 2013.  Slightly matte feeling and a bit slippery.  The mint Ringke case is also slippery so I've swapped it out already for the Ringle Smoke Black Clear Fusion case.

Even the button presses of the Power and Vol buttons are eerily similar to the old N5.  It doesn't feel as solid as clicking on metal buttons like on the S6 Edge.

It would've been nice if Google instead introduced a Nexus 5P instead and charged a bit more.  On the bright side, I have a feeling it will be super easy to swap out the battery in the future as it was on the old N5.

There have already been two updates on the phone.  Right now, I'm on the latest MDB08I version.

I'm still playing around with it but so far it's good.  Fast, smooth, and easy to use.  I've already unlocked the bootloader and may flash TWRP when good custom ROMs come out.  In the meanwhile, it'll be just Novalauncher and Root.

  14. I got my 32gb Quartz 5X this morning at 11:45am. Feels very similar to the old N5 - the back texture, the feel of the power and vol buttons, etc. The camera is a bit disappointing though - slow to launch and slow shutter speed. I'm comparing to my S6 Edge.

    Still, love having a Nexus.
