  1. You sure can dig a ditch with a backhoe when the ground is froze, but it is a little harder. The problem can be the replacement of concrete or asphalt in the winter. In many states, there is a state restriction on replacing asphalt on highways after a certain date because of low temperatures. I do not know about any rules in your local area.
  2. Yes, look at the thread Deval directed you to, ---- But --- Always remember people will search out a forum to vent when they have issues but if they are happy, they quite often are off doing other things and never mention how happy they are. Also, the Sprint service is getting better every day, so if you look at old comments, they may not give you the correct story today. I am NOT in Chicago, so I can not give you a good answer, but my above comments are good advice.
  3. Exactly. I do not care if I am on 1900, 800, or 2600. Just have the system be smart enough to place my phone on the network that is going to work best for me. With today's technology and software, this should be possible. It should already be accomplished. ALSO, while this is surely more difficult, figure out how to allow a voice call to transfer between 1900, 800, 2600 and avoid a dropped call. Surely there has to be some way to make this happen. Sure, this is not easy to fix, but do it somehow. Pin down the various manufacturers and software guys and get it done.
  4. Very good question. I have had that same question for about a year now. The network should be smart enough to control each handset and direct it to the best network. This should be done on the voice side and the data aside. The network should not allow the handset to make a call on 1900 if the levels are getting weak. If the network determines the signal from the handset if about -100, it should just move the handset to the 800 network. Alternatively, if the level from the handset is extremely good, move the handset from the 800 network to the 1900 network. On the voice side, this might only be done when the phone is idle. But on the data side, it could be done while active on data.
  5. My Wife's Galaxy S-3 was dropping calls several times a day on 800 while having great levels. My S-3 worked fine all day. I pulled her battery out and restarted the phone. Trouble is gone.
  6. Just my Guess ---One year from start till finish. A few straggler sites may be slightly longer. Occasionally they run into a crazy issue with a site.
  7. I am having similar issues. Going through areas that always had the Base Station address showing properly are now showing a strange address that apparently is cached somewhere. Most of the addresses are correct and normal, but this one crazy address somehow keeps coming up at times while the actual BID does vary and looks correct. This one bad address shows up many many miles away from the address and can not be correct. It almost has to be cached in my phone somehow and may be showing up when Google is slow or something. Can the cache be cleared of the Base station addresses and be started over??
  8. I have seen a stealth flagpole up real real close as they worked on it. It simply was not capable of holding the RRU's because of the bulk that was involved. The RRU's were mounted at the bottom of the flagpole on the ground. The new base station cabinet was actually 50 feet away from the flagpole. In this case, they actually brought in a trailer mounted crank up tower and connected the legacy base station to it while they installed the new antennas on the stealth flagpole.
  9. This is generally good advice, however, you will find a few store reps that are very good. You just have to be smart enough to know which ones are knowledgeable & trustworthy and which ones are full of crapola.
  10. I have seen new antennas be mounted and be cabled to ground mounted RRU's. Then the contractor leaves. Weeks later a new base station cabinet shows up and then it gets all connected up. Sometimes the back-haul is there and sometimes it is not. When you see this situation, normally you still see the old Legacy antennas and the old base station cabinet sitting there providing the service. The photos are not complete enough to accurately diagnose this situation.
  11. I doubt that nTelos would be serious about starting the NV upgrades until the expiring contract problem is solved by the signing of a new better contract. They can not be spending loads of cash to upgrade all the cell sites for Sprint and not be sure of a contract that is agreeable to them.
  12. When you tain't movin, it tis pretty easy for somebody to run you over.
  13. Sure is time to fix this issue. Sure is a very noticeable issue for many people. Look at Shentel's build-out and then look at Ntelos. Way past time to settle this. If Shentel would be agreeable to overbuild this territory, I would allow it to be done immediately. This territory is a genuine mess. Thanks Netlos for showing how bad things can get screwed up.
  14. It may work that way in the future, but it sure is not working that way now. Right now, you will stay on whichever frequency that you happen to be currently using(either 800 or 1900). You will stay there until something causes your phone to need to scan for a network. If you happen to visit an area with poor coverage and happen to lose a call because of the poor coverage, your phone will then search and possibly place you on the other frequency if it is available.
  15. Exactly correct. Many times, a phone will hold onto a LTE signal and people think they really have something good. In trying to use it, they find their request for a web site or anything else gets no response. Eventually the LTE connection totally crashes. Occasionally it will not crash nor will it work, and that is when you start muttering foul language. Any EVDO connection is better than a LTE connection that will not work at all.
  16. You might get 2 down, but I bet you get ZERO up. Mine would NEVER work at -109 because of a poor transmit signal. I could see 2 down or more on a speed test if I was lucky enough to get my request for a speed test to be recognized.
  17. You are probably correct with the EVO being garbage in the RF Dept. I had one for a couple of days and returned it within the 14 day window. I do not have a Note II, but some friends do. They love em.
  18. I would bet that the LTE would not have worked at that level if you had tried it.
  19. My GS3 will hold to that level too, but the LTE rarely works at this level. Like I said above, if it ain't capable of handling LTE, it should drop the LTE and give you EVDO. I get frustrated sometimes when the GS3 has a -115 on LTE but the connection to LTE is pure crapola.
  20. It varies with phone and location. But, LTE quite often becomes about worthless around a -109 or -110. You can receive data at those levels, but your transmit signal just does make it to the cell site and be useable. I actually am OK with seeing the LTE drop off and then see the phone lock on to EVDO. The EVDO will actually work better. I am now thinking that the HTC EVO LTE phone actually had it right. Just drop off LTE at -109 and forget about it. Some of the other phones hold on down to -125 or so and it gives you trouble because it is not going to work at those levels. The HTC phone was heavily criticized because it dropped off LTE at a -109 while the other phones held on to the LTE. This made HTC look bad. But while the other phones might have held on to the LTE, it did not work. It is more useful if the phone allows the LTE to drop and gives you EVDO.
  21. If you happen to connect to 1900 1X for any reason, you will stay there until you happen to lose if for some reason, Then you will go back to 800. This is just the way it works right now. Maybe it will change later. If you should need 800, the phone should find it and give it to you. You can manually place it on 800 by asking for a PRL update. You will not get a new PRL, but that makes the phone do a scan of available networks and it should find the 800 that is available in your area.
  22. The WORST thing about Note 2's not being able to work correctly with 800 SMR is that nobody officially acknowledges it or gives any idea of what is wrong. This makes them all look bad. Somebody please finger the guy that caused this problem and tell us what is being done about it. The current status of the issue is not acceptable at all.
  23. I do have 3 different BID's from one cell site. Each sector is a different BID. So, you could get 1900 from one Sector(one BID) and then 800 form the same cell site with a different Sector & BID. However, if you get decent 1900 signal and then see a weaker 800 signal, the two signals are probably coming from a completely different cell site.
  24. My BID is the same exact thing for both 800 & 1900 voice. I do not know if that is going to be universal or not.
  25. You are located within Shentel's area which is almost totally equipped with 800 mhz. If you travel outside the Shentel area, you might find a completely different result. Areas that are a mixture of 1900 only sites and sites with both 1900 and 800 could possibly give you some weird issues.
