  1. I would argue that in most instances, the performance will be similar. I had Sprint and Verizon LTE side by side in Waco, and Sprint was equal or better in every instance. The Sprint network is denser (where fully deployed). So there were more square miles around Waco with Sprint LTE with better than -90dBm signal, than Verizon. Sprint's average speeds in our tests were around 20Mbps. Verizon average speed was about 15Mbps. Sprint had faster pings almost every time. Robert
  2. Didn't work for me on the GNex or LG Viper in the Waco FIT. I had to activate both to get them to work on LTE. Also, I have seen Sprint memos where they talk about cracking down on 3G and LTE unauthorized tethering. You do know that AT&T will send a warning directly to a device in a notification when they detect unauthorized tethering, right? In the Sprint memo, it was discussing doing the same thing. Robert
  3. You should be able to keep it at -110dBm RSRP on a GS3 (unless perhaps the signal quality is really poor). Have you upgraded to LI3, yet? Robert
  4. RSRQ could be a factor. The better result was with a better quality signal. But most likely it was just a network anomaly. It is unlikely it will keep repeating itself. Robert
  5. They have known about it since lab testing: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-169-evo-lte-pre-order-under-way-with-ship-dates-as-soon-as-may-15th/ Robert
  6. HTC EVO LTE, Samsung Galaxy S-III, Galaxy Nexus and LG Viper. We have articles about our performance testing that will be posting soon. Robert
  7. iDEN shuts down on June 30, 2013 LTE 800 will start deploying right after iDEN shuts down, but will probably take awhile to complete Sprint will not have any 3G on 800MHz, just 1x and LTE Sprint LTE 800 signals will travel as far from a site as Verizon LTE 750 in most deployments. In a rural deployment, the difference will not exceed 3%. No LTE 800/2600 capable phones will go on sale until next year Sprint LTE 800 will probably offer about the same coverage as Sprint 3G...maybe slightly more. LTE is only good to approximately -95dBm RSSI, where as EVDO is good to approximately -105dBm. So EVDO will have more coverage from the same site on the same frequency. So Sprint's LTE 1900 will not offer as much coverage as CDMA 1900. But when LTE 800 shows up, it will expand the LTE beyond the coverage area to be a little more than EVDO on 1900. But the same is true of Verizon. I have a Verizon hotspot. The LTE signal peters out around -93dBm RSSI. So Verizon's LTE 750 actually has less coverage than their CDMA 850, even though their maps show more. So in places where Verizon LTE 750 and Sprint LTE 800 have both been deployed in the same area, coverage will be similar. However, Verizon has a larger network and covers areas where Sprint does not even offer service. So that will always be an issue. If you spend a lot of time in non Sprint coverage areas, then Sprint may not be the right choice for you. Robert
  8. The EVO LTE had connectivity issues before it even left the lab: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-169-evo-lte-pre-order-under-way-with-ship-dates-as-soon-as-may-15th/ And with all the heat HTC and Sprint are getting, they would certainly make adjustments for connectivity over battery performance. There have been more than a dozen EVO owners in this forum who have returned their devices because of it. This is not a minor trivial setting issue. Robert
  9. I tested four Sprint LTE devices at the same time in Waco. The LTE connectivity issues were related solely to the EVO. Robert
  10. Try in the parking lot. If you can't get it there. walk up to the building and try. And if all else fails, try to walk in and ask to buy a phone. Robert
  11. I used the EVO LTE in Waco, which has the densest LTE deployment yet in the country and it still struggled to keep a connection in fully deployed areas. And that is after the latest OTA. Maybe a future one will fix it. But I'm starting to get pessimistic. Robert
  12. Yes. I think you may be on to something. Robert
  13. That's not bad. That's the EVO. Robert via Samsung Galaxy S-III 32GB using Forum Runner
  14. No!!! NetMonitor never shows LTE sites. Never. We have discussed this in dozens of threads. Even when connected to LTE, NetMonitor (and all apps) only shows the 1x (voice) site it is connected to. Android currently is not able to harvest info from LTE sites that will disclose location. So nothing can show LTE site locations. And NetMonitor is not even accurate for 1x locations in all markets. We have a thread about that too. Robert via Samsung Galaxy S-III 32GB using Forum Runner
  15. We had some sites complete in early March but were blocked until Mid July. That was the longest. However, I don't think that's going to be typical anymore. It is so variable though, its not really possible to answer your question. Early sites will likely be blocked longer than later sites within a market. Sprint doesn't block some sites ever, probably in error. However, most sites are blocked after Sprint accepts the site from the OEM until a market is pre launched or launched.
