With 28nm chips, it seems like CDMA and LTE battery life have been the same. I stay in CDMA/LTE mode on my GS3, and do not notice a difference in battery life whether I have a 3G or 4G connection. However, if I have a weak 3G connection, my battery will drain pretty fast. Robert via CM9 Kindle Fire using Forum Runner

My Verizon hotspot is also limited to 8 devices. I think I've never exceeded 4 connections. Robert via CM9 Kindle Fire using Forum Runner

There was a CNET piece the other day that said the GS3 display is better: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57524291-37/color-me-prettier-galaxy-s3-display-outdoes-iphone-5s/ Robert via ICS Kindle Fire using Tapatalk

There was an article in the past six months where Verizon said they were working on VoLTE and even flip phones that were LTE only. I think the timeline for release was 2013. Robert via ICS Kindle Fire using Tapatalk

Exactly. This is a commonly misunderstood point. VoLTE tower spacing is significantly tighter on the same frequency as 1x. VoLTE is only good to approximately -93dBm RSSI, whereas 1x voice can be used to roughly -103dBm. 10dBm is huge and represents a lot of coverage difference. Sprint would have to run VoLTE on LTE 800 just to get in the ballpark of CDMA 1900 coverage. And then it would be nowhere near as good as 1x is on 800. Robert via ICS Kindle Fire using Tapatalk

Report Your LTE Connection Here

The Cupertino sites have been online for a few months now. They were put up for Apple. Almost like their own personal FIT for iPhone 5 testing. The deployment for the rest of the market is just beginning now. Robert via ICS Kindle Fire using Tapatalk -

There must be something wrong about the storage specs. To have a top end flagship phone with only 8GB and 16GB internal storage, with no MicroSD slot? That cannot be right. People are not going to buy a high end smartphone with so little storage. Makes no sense.

I would be on a stock ROM (or at least one definitely verified that LTE works) and a 25XXX series PRL. Don't forget to cycle through airplane mode. Robert

I ran about 5 dozen speed tests using the continuous testing feature in the RootMetrics app, all around Albuquerque, through Santa Fe and all the way home. All the sites that are normally above 2Mbps were still above 2Mbps on eHRPD on my testing today. No evidence of any traffic shaping, by what I could tell. Hopefully it stays that way in our market. Still on eHRPD even at home in Northern Santa Fe County. All the sites in the Espanola area are on eHRPD too. Seems to be market wide. Here are screen shots from my EVO LTE and LG Viper. Both of them were connected to EVDO-A initially. I had to cycle through airplane mode and then they connected to eHRPD. Robert on Samsung Galaxy S-III via Tapatalk

NewCo needs to drop some of the PCS from MetroPCS

Based on our observations, both Sprint LTE and Verizon LTE is unusable with a weaker signal than -95dBm RSSI. That's a full 10dBm less than 1x will do from the same site. That is a lot of lost square mileage of coverage in rural areas. Robert -
I went to the Sprint Call Center today in the Albuquerque suburb of Rio Rancho. I thought I may be able to sniff out some LTE there like the one near Denver. Sadly, I did not encounter any LTE. I even went inside. But I did discover eHRPD. At first, I thought the eHRPD was just at the Call Center. But it appears to be throughout the ABQ metro area. I drove all over Rio Rancho and the ABQ west side changing sites more than 10 times, and I'm still on eHRPD. Looks like we are eHRPD live now. I took several screen shots. Performance is identical to EVDO-A when connected to the same sites. As expected, the site where I get 2Mbps+ site speeds (at Unser and Paradise on the west side) is still just as fast on eHRPD. But I always get those speeds there. Robert on Samsung Galaxy S-III via Tapatalk
