  1. They are talking about Ericsson. Samsung has been deploying 3G with their site deployments and activating them as they go along. You can see this on our maps because Sprint has been accepting 3G at Samsung sites. However, in contrast, there are only a few dozen Ericsson sites where Sprint has accepted 3G. There are over a thousand with 4G only. I understand this was because Ericsson has had issues with its IP conversion boxes for 1x and EVDO. However, this has supposedly been recently corrected. We even had a few Ericsson 3G sites go live last week. But not many. Robert via Nexus 7 using Forum Runner
  2. I've heard field reports of Ericsson equipment delays recently. This may account for slower production rates in Ericsson markets. Robert via Nexus 7 using Forum Runner

  4. Existing smartphone customers getting 1GB for $15 seems very reasonable to me. Since most people use 90% of their tablet usage at home with WiFi, this is an attractive offer for those times when you need tablet data connectivity on the go. Robert via Nexus 7 using Forum Runner

  6. There are no safe assumptions. We will not be able to make any assumptions until production gets moving and we come up with an average weekly production rate. Some markets average 30-50 per week. Some average 10-20. Some average 2-3. We will see what Ericsson does in Miami. Robert via Nexus 7 using Forum Runner
  7. Watching "bars" fluctuate wildly is more likely the device changing sites than it is breathing. If the EcIo ratio of the site your device is connected to gets too high, you may be transferred to a more distant site with a weaker signal with a lower EcIo ratio. 8. Do you know what you're talking about? All LTE performance is signal strength dependent. Even AT&T's. You only get 50Mbps on AT&T when you are on top of a LTE site with no one else on it. In the same conditions, you get 37Mbps from Sprint. And Sprint has a lot more spectrum it can get to, to keep the speeds up. AT&T does not. Sprint's network is denser, meaning that you will likely be closer to a Sprint site and there will be more square miles of peak speed locations than AT&T or VZW. With LTE, density is key. AT&T only has enough 700MHz spectrum to deploy 10MHz wide channels in one third of the country. In another third, they have to deploy 5MHz channels just like Sprint and will be limited to the same 37Mbps. So don't get all worked up. Not a lot of AT&T markets will get the super dooper fast LTE (that AT&T will not sustain anyway). And the really big secret AT&T doesn't want people to know...it hold no 700Mhz LTE spectrum in a whole third of the country. At least Sprint's 5MHz channels are nationwide!!! Also, Sprint will start developing TD-LTE on the Clearwire network next year and will have 60-90Mbps speeds. But max speeds are irrelevant. What matters is the average speed in the places you go. For the medium and long term...AT&T is the worst LTE carrier to be on. Robert
  9. I don't know anything about a 31100 PRL. I rely on digiblur for PRL analysis. Robert
  10. If the U.S. insists that SoftBank poses a National Security risk owning a major stake in Sprint, then what do they think of Deutsche Telekom owning a major stake in T-Mobile? Or Vodafone in Verizon? Japan is as close of an ally as Germany and the UK. Chinese firms are a different deal because they are state owned and/or controlled/manipulated. Robert
  11. This is a crappy article. Article title: Sprint 4G LTE may not show up in NY, SF until March However, in the article it talks about how there is some LTE service already working in these markets and that Sprint is leaving the sites operating while they add more service. LTE has shown up now. Garbage journalism. If it said something like, "Sprint LTE will not fully launch in NY, SF until possibly as late as March" that would be much more acceptable. Robert
  12. Microwave backhaul is variable, but can support up to 1Gbps in some instances. Depending on bandwidth size, distance travel, hardware used. I think there are even 3Gbps deployments now. However, if it is connected to 100Mbps AAV on the supply end, then it will be limited to 100Mbps speeds. There are so many variables, there is no way to really answer your question. Robert
  13. I called my local store. They said only the store manager can access and release the phones. And he is out sick today and questionable for tomorrow. What the heck??? If he calls in tomorrow, then they won't release it until Friday. Crazy!!! Robert
  14. I cannot speak to US Cellular, but as for Verizon, they do utilize the same backhaul for 3G and LTE. In an instance where the LTE is still fast and 3G EVDO is slow at Verizon, when connected to the same exact site, the issue is capacity and not backhaul. However, it is very hard, if not impossible to determine which LTE site you are connected to and which 3G EVDO site. Verizon only has about half of their sites in most markets upgraded to LTE, not all. So the VZE LTE site you are connected to may be further away than the 3G EVDO site. VZW is upgrading all their 1x/EVDO only sites to microwave/fiber backhaul to allow for additional capacity and for LTE to be added at the site quickly, when needed. It is possible that the 100k EVDO site you are referring to has not been upgraded to new backhaul yet. Or, the EVDO carriers there are over capacity. VZW is usually pretty good about deploying more EVDO carriers when needed. So if this has been occurring for a long time, then VZW may be spectrum limited in the location in question and cannot add more EVDO capacity. Robert

  16. In other markets, this has occurred as Network Vision starts. In Seattle, this work was supposed to start next month, so this is completely plausible. Stay tuned. Robert
  17. I received confirmation this morning that Ericsson is working in the market. First LTE sites will start going live very soon. Robert
