  1. The powering down will be nearly instantaneous on the 30th. They are just going to take them down, one switch at a time until they're all done. There is not supposed to be any live iDEN signals within 24 hours. As for fire ups of CDMA 800 and LTE 800, they will go live one at a time when ready. Robert via Samsung Note II via Tapatalk
  2. S4GRU readers, want to see your name up in lights? Here is your chance...The Nextel iDEN countdown clock is up on the front page of The Forums.http://s4gru.com/index.php?/index As a fundraiser for non profit S4GRU, you can claim "naming rights" to the iDEN countdown clock for a day for a $10 donation. I have already made my claim on the first three days through the end of this workweek. Now, who will step up to the plate and meet my challenge to keep the sponsorship going? Celebrate the shutdown of iDEN. Show your support for CDMA1X 800 and LTE 800. And, of course, see your name get recognized by thousands of other readers around the country.Just make a $5 PayPal donation, put "iDEN countdown" in the message, and the clock is yours for a day (or more). 5. Since up until this very day, Sprint has been pushing 1x, especially when you consider M2M, Sprint would be phasing out 1x and WCDMA at the same time. So why add the WCDMA? Plus, you miss the most important point of all, Sprint cannot add WCDMA to about 35% of its network because it does not have the spectrum. A WCDMA carrier takes as much spectrum as an LTE carrier. And it is more important to shore up LTE if you dig up 10MHz, since voice can be run over 1x. So, this is a "if wishes were horses" kind of discussion anyway. Robert
  6. What is your LTE RSRP? Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  7. Probably an RF seam between Network Vision and legacy 3G sites. They will constantly move around during deployment. Eventually there will be no legacy seams left. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD

  9. Sprint reps can see a tool where they can look at sites and it will tell them which ones are slated to get 3G 800, 3G 1900, 4G 800 and 4G 1900 upgrades for the next 3 months. To me it sounds like they saw legitimate info and reported it to you. So that's probably legit. However, whether Sprint and their Contractors will hit those dates is another thing entirely. That being said, Samsung is making an aggressive push to get all their remaining markets under way before Summer. So it's coming either way. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  10. Worse, meaning voice service? Dropped calls? Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  11. There is likely a problem with the site. Since West Palm is a launched area, call Sprint and open a ticket. Just make sure you actually have a good signal. The S4 doesn't show LTE signal strength in its bars. See the link below for an explanation: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2040-bars-lie-for-lte-signal-strength-how-to-determine-your-actual-lte-signal-strength/ If your signal is actually weak, then I wouldn't report it. It will get better when a closer site launches. If the signal is actually strong, then call Sprint. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  12. Sprint will be phasing out EVDO carriers for additional LTE 1900 carriers as needed. The possibilities of additional EVDO carriers to be useful to EVDO-B will be dwindling. Sprint should take the money it would spend on EVDO-B to expand the LTE experience through DAS and small cells. To have a more consistent LTE experience over the entire network is much more important than shoring up EVDO further (a dying technology). If people could have a good LTE experience over the whole Sprint network, then EVDO would fade away. Also, people would not like to see their EVDO experience jump up to 7-9Mbps and then drop to 4-6Mbps and then back to 1-2Mbps. But that's what would happen as Sprint has to repurpose EVDO spectrum for LTE over time. I just don't get this hysteria over 3G. LTE is going nationwide. The places you'll get 3G is going to be less and less and less. In my mind, I see it this way, you currently drive a Geo and have done so for years, but the Corvette you ordered will arrive next month. You could go down and buy an Impala to last you the next month, or you can just finish out with the Geo. Let's waste our money and our time and buy the Impala now! Yes, the Corvette will not travel down all the roads the Geo or Impala will. Just like LTE may not go every single place that EVDO will. But with the money you save from buying the Impala, you can do lots of things. Just like with not wasting money on EVDO-B. With LTE 800 and small cells, Sprint LTE can have equal or better coverage than EVDO in a short time period. And no one will want to go back to EVDO again for data at all. 13. When you consider all the phones active on the Sprint network, the amount that could be used on a new Sprint WCDMA network is a very low percentage. And if they started producing them in the next 6 months to a year that way, then it's completely useless. Sprint will have nationwide LTE near the end of that time. Previous UMTS standards offer no benefit over LTE except voice. And Sprint will not abandon 1x for years. A simple network architecture that has a simplified part list is less expensive and easier to manage. Kind of like how Southwest Airlines uses only 737's. Yes, if SWA purchased some smaller and larger jets, they would be a better fit for some routes and better for some customers. However, it would not be better for the airline. Especially if the planes being bought are the previous model. It just doesn't make sense. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD

  17. WesTower is a known Network Vision Contractor. But they also likely work for other carriers too. Keep an eye out for us! Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  18. Rawvega already responded to your point, but as evidence of it, look at the Clearwire WiMax Protection Sites deployed around the island. They are deployed in EBS/BRS, the same band as LTE Band 41. Robert
  19. LTE is supplanting UMTS now. Also, VoLTE in and of itself is not a long way out. VoLTE as an independent voice network is what will be a ways out. VoLTE will be backed up by 2G /3G networks for quite some time though. Just because of the device ecosystem alone. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  20. Please note that S4GRU does not support the petition referenced in the Original Post and does not endorse nor advocate a move to WCDMA as a bridge to LTE. It makes no sense for Sprint to do so from a business standpoint. And the spectrum issues make it beyond reasonable. The billions wasted on something temporary would be foolhardy and would rival the Nextel purchase decision. Those billions could be spent on much better things like 800 expansion, Network Expansion, Small Cell deployment, network management and capacity upgrades, etc. It just doesn't make sense for all the reasons explained here. It's just a machination of WCDMA fans and those who want to swap SIM cards. If you want to be able to swap SIM cards, Sprint is capable of making that switch within the current network architecture if they so choose. I suppose you could petition that. 22. That's correct. Higher is not better. It's only higher. In many places, especially in small cells and urban locations, going higher would make no difference. It would just be a waste of money. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
