  1. 15 months would be worst case scenario. a complete upgrade starting with equipment install to complete broadcasting will take a few months. Near my work, i spoke with a contractor that was in the process of installing the new NV equipment. that was back on April 5th. As far as I know, that site finally began broadcasting LTE on July 1st. (Sprint claimed 3G was upgraded even earlier, and I was connected to 800 by late April/early May. ) So yes, 15 months is alot, but that is worst case. Best scenario would be less than six months. the time will vary as others have stated. Keep in mind, Sprint is not keeping you against your will to continue service with them. You are free to cancel and move to a different provider if the service is not meeting your needs. The best case scenario in a Samsung market is not 6 months, but can be as little as a few days from start off work to LTE being fired up. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  2. Business is all about cost/benefit analysis. It is better to sail into approval paying this $2.5M to Crest than it is to try a legal fight to suggest market manipulation. Other shareholders and more importantly bondholders would be nervous to invest in Sprint in the future if they went after Crest. This is the right course of action. Just get the deal done! 3. So if you're saying it could be 15 months, and sprint was saying work is underway, then I can expect to have crappy 3G and very spotty 4g service in omaha for up to the next 2 years? Why would i want to renew my contract with Sprint when AT&T and Verizon has had immaculate service in my area for over 2 years? =( Or it could just be a few days. *sigh* The odds are you're not going to be one of the 15 month sites. Sites being done this year are going MUCH FASTER. These extremely long sites have been a very small handful. Maybe a dozen or two nationwide. And it's because of things outside of Sprint control. Not a conscience choice. Most sites take 2-3 weeks. And these later to start markets like yours have a much larger percentage of average time to convert sites. When will your specific site be done and how long will it take? We don't know. We will not suggest you hang around and keep Sprint. That choice is yours. However, to leave while your market is being upgraded doesn't seem like a good move now. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  8. One site near my home is shown as 3G complete. The site is in the middle of the north east quadrant of the Rochester market. The site does not have the new antennas. Does that mean it is a GMO? If so, then "All of the sites in the Rochester market will be completely overhauled" does not sound like an accurate statement. (EDIT: I just read the GMO article. Does being GMO and 3G complete mean that there will be a second round of work on the site at some point to install the new antennas?) Sprint made it sound like we were to expect better coverage in weak signal areas. At least in reference to the tower in question, the coverage is no better and may, in fact, be slightly worse. On this tower and on the one directly to the west, I have been getting dropped calls for the last few days when I had never ever had dropped calls on them before. I was really hoping for more than what I'm seeing so far. It does sound like the site you're referring to is a GMO site. My statement of all the sites in the Rochester market are getting overhauled was not explained clearly, and that is my error. When I say they are all being overhauled, it means they all ate getting upgrades. Even the GMO sites are being completely upgraded except for the antennas, everything else is being replaced. And also, GMO sites will be converted to full build sites, they just will be the very last sites to do so. So, yes, all the sites in the Rochester market are being overhauled and receiving Network Vision improvements. As for better signals, there will be no improvement at GMO sites. Full build sites will get slightly better signals through new RRU's installed up next to the antennas, and majorly better through 800MHz CDMA and eventually LTE deployments. GMO sites will not have better signals until they receive their full build upgrades in the future. Dropped calls are unfortunately going to become more common during Network Vision, especially on Samsung equipment. If you cross a seam between new Samsung NV equipment and legacy equipment, your chances of being dropped increase. If you are near a seam, you can be dropped without moving. Additionally, drops can occur even when solidly on a new NV site. Over time, they will make the adjustments that will make the network even better than it was before. And as more sites get converted, the better the experience will become. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  10. As the others have said, this occurs when the 800 1x site you're connecting to is farther away than the 1900 1x site you were connected to. So that is the reduction in signal strength. When the closer 1900 site gets upgraded to 800, then you'd likely be impressed. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  11. No. Omaha has WiMax Protection Sites. There are currently no plans to convert them to TD-LTE. However, when Sprint/SoftBank take over Clearwire, all the plans could change. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  13. Nope, not forever. But for a long time. It will take many years before small cells are as small as they can feasibly be and more spectrum must be obtained. AT&T will be refarming spectrum before that point. And even when that happens, it will only be in the largest cities. The top 10, or at worst, the Top 20. We really don't have a spectrum problem in this country. We have a spectrum crunch in the densest parts of our largest cities. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  15. As a person who has lived in the Rural West the past 20 years and has been personally effected by several rangeland fires, it is with great gratitude that I give my thanks to those firefighters who risk their all for our personal safety and property protection. Our prayers to those affected by this latest tragedy in Arizona. Thank you to all who serve and have served in fire protection. Our lives depend on it, and we appreciate it. Robert

  17. The Victory is a great small device. It's only downside is screen size. But for people who want a device that size, it's perfect. Avoid the Viper at all cost. It is not a small LGOG. Not even close. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  18. When the sites come online one at a time, I have the following method for Sensorly mapping of a new site: I go directly to the site, and circle it getting all the sector ID's. Then I drive away in the cardinal directions, north-south and east to west on the nearest arterial streets to plot the extents of the coverage. Then I go back to the site and drive around in concentric circles the best the neighborhood streets allow. All while Sensorly is mapping. However, if I'm mapping with my wife and/or kids in the car, my mapping tends to just be arterial roads and highways between Point A and Point B...with possible variations in the route to pick up more coverage. It may seem strange, but I really enjoy mapping time. I get to see parts of a city I've never driven, and I get to enjoy my favorite drinks from Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Bad Ass Coffee and Sonic. And perhaps a spicy chicken sandwich from Chickfila if one is along my route. There is also a sense of accomplishment to get back to your computer and pull up Sensorly and see all the tracks you've left. So though my carbon footprint may be large, at least it's in shades of purple!!! Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  19. 1. You are likely going in and out of LTE coverage. Going to legacy 3G even for a second is going to be hell for streaming. I'm not impressed with eHRPD handoffs between 3G and LTE either. On Sprint nor Verizon. 2. There two big impacts to ping time...backhaul and air link congestion. I have found lots of 40-50ms pings on Sprint LTE. And I have had lots of 100-200ms pings on Verizon LTE. Your generalization that Sprint LTE pings are lower is not accurate. I have Sprint, Verizon and Tmo LTE, so I'm speaking first hand. Networks are dynamic and over a broad range of time and visiting several sites and several networks, you'd see there is a lot of variability in ping times on all LTE networks. 20. Yesterday I heard chirpping. I thought it was crickets in the Memphis thread. Now I hear none. Turned out it was Nextel devices. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  21. Sensorly is crowd sourced data. It is real world signal measurements from users of the Sensorly app. Those thin pencil lines are the routes of Sensorly users in that area. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  23. My wife left her OG EVO in the car at -20°F overnight. The next day when she realized her error, she brought it in the house and allowed it to warm up before turning on. All worked well except she lost a few dozen pixels in her display. They stayed a constant yellow color. Probably burst a few cells from the extreme cold. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  24. I have a good friend that works at Best Buy and he confirmed that it was in fact supposed to be rolled out middle of June.He claims they got some memo or something like that... All I know is I can't wait! I work from my iPad and phone so much its not funny...I need the 4G's! Each site goes live when it is ready, one at a time. There will be no wide scale Middle of June light up all over NW Arkansas. There are already two sites accepted. And over the next few months one will go live every few days or weeks until they are all done. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
