  4. I'm surprised I haven't done this yet, as I frequently put my hotspots in my pockets. I haven't done this with a machine washed item. Hopefully it was off when it went into water. However, with items Ive dropped in water, I remove the battery (if possible) and place in a bin of dry rice for several days. The rice helps wick away moisture and keep the humidity really low. I then mix up the rice every few hours. Typically, after three days I try it again. Has worked for me every time so far. Seems like one device of ours gets dropped in water every year. It worked recently on my wife's LG Optimus G, and it even had a sealed battery. I wasn't hopeful. Robert
  5. Over in the Sponsor section, we have a thread touting a special offer for members to upgrade to the Premier Sponsor level in celebration of the first two Band 26 (LTE 800) sites. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/5111-lte-800band-26-info-teaser/ For a limited time, we are offering a discount for members to upgrade to Premier Sponsor. From now through Monday, December 2nd, you can upgrade to the Premier Sponsor level for $25 off. So if you are only $50 away from reaching the Premier level, it would only cost you $25 now. If you have never donated to S4GRU but want to go straight to the Premier level, you can do so for just $75. And remember, Premier Sponsorships never expire!!! If you are unsure how far you are away from the Premier level, send me a PM and I will respond with the amount you need to receive the upgrade. I hope to see you in the Premier Sponsor section soon! Robert *NOTE: Promotion ends at 11:59 PM Hawaii Standard Time on Monday, December 2, 2013.
  6. I just tried, but could not do a BYOD on Sprint off contract. It would be nice to be able to do the Nexus 5 this way. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  9. Yeah, it sure seems that way, huh? The Nexus 7 2012 sure has a screen that loves to crack. She dropped hers in the backseat of our Suburban from approx 18". It was in a closed case and landed on a carpeted car floor with a carpeted floor mat. I was shocked it caused it to crack. Mine also cracked pretty easily. Robert
  10. There are real problems. And 90%+ are the network. Nothing they can do but keep on it. Keep trudging forward. And for some, it won't be fast enough. And they should leave. No sense in having an aneurism over a wireless carrier. However, after 30 days of AT&T, I can tell you the grass is not greener. With every carrier it's about weighing pros and cons and going with the one you can best tolerate. Robert via Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

  14. The last EDGE only AT&T site I was aware of in Northern New Mexico received WCDMA finally over the summer. It only ran about 1-2Mbps, but it was welcome over EDGE. I haven't found any EDGE only sites so far in South Dakota. There is still a lot of EDGE though in both New Mexico and South Dakota though. But they are on roaming partners. In NM, Commnet EDGE service showed as native on AT&T. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  15. I wish I could have at least Sprint voice quality. AT&T voice really stinks. Makes me talk on the phone even less! Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  16. To clarify your point, VZW's initial LTE deployment in most cities was only approx 40% of their sites. So this was true the first 18 months of their deployment. However, they come back and fill in more. They are nearly 100% in some markets. Here in Rapid City, VZW has LTE on every site I've seen. I wouldn't quote that 40% number anymore. It is no longer relevant. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  21. My point is about what life is like under a duopoly, not Sprint's reputation. Now that I live in an area with only AT&T and Verizon for hundreds of miles, I'm getting to see a little bit of what it's like. Robert
  22. I pay $70/month for 100Mbps. It often runs up to 115-120Mbps. It only bogs down to 90-95Mbps at the worst. However, I see no difference in performance between an Ethernet connection on my network running at 100Mbps, or a WiFi connection running at 40Mbps. None. Zero. Not even downloading. So your comment about not needing more makes a lot of sense. And it makes sense if you think about it. Because the servers around the country/world that I am downloading from just aren't throwing out the data I'm using even at 40Mbps. Many people don't realize that our download speeds are limited to the speed of the weakest point in the connection to the distant server. And if the distant servers connection to the internet is only running 3-5Mbps, then it doesn't matter if we have 1Gbps internet service. Good call, Digi. These speed increases being offered by cable companies is just to bring additional perceived value to better compete. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  24. No doubt. I use AT&T here in South Dakota. At work, I share a sector with a middle school and high school. It runs at 3-4Mbps, except the 30 minutes before school. And during the three lunch break period. And the two hour period from when the staggered end of the school day for the middle school and high school. AT&T customers see that stupid 4G icon that confusingly looks like the LTE icon. And are pissed because they think their LTE is running at 100k during those times. And people are complaining they need to go to Verizon. Meanwhile half the Verizon LTE sites drop below 1-2Mbps every evening around here. This is what life is like with a duopoly. And everyone has to share only two networks. So all those people who hate on Sprint, the other carriers only have decent service because there are competing carriers to help carry the load. Rawbert
