  1. Someone definitely needs to run S4GRU March Madness Brackets for us. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  2. Negative. Sprint will no longer "launch" markets without CSFB being active. There is no harm in allowing an LTE site go live without CSFB. Because if you think about it, no one knows except those who read S4GRU maps. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

If all the settings are exactly the same, it would only leave a device problem. Also, there is no Band 41 in Harrisburg. Shentel has not worked out an arrangement with Sprint yet for Band 41 deployment. Most likely you just saw your device scan Band 41, not actually complete a connection. 5. Possibly. EVDO will run between 80-120ms pings typically with fiber backhaul. However, an unburdened T1 can run that low too in ideal situations. But it's not common. I used to get really low pings like that though off Osuna, west of Jefferson near the Calvary Chapel and also on the West Mesa near Paradise and Unser. Robert
  6. Yes. CL is definitely working on backhaul. I ran into a CL field engineer a few weeks before I left NM. He was working at the Sprint site at I-25 and St. Francis in Santa Fe. He at that time was installing the fiber termination box and a fiber pull box. He said he was doing this at several Santa Fe/Los Alamos sites. He believed that there were crews in ABQ too, but he said they were from Las Vegas. He said all the CL employees working on backhaul in NM are from other markets. Local CL crews are too busy on existing contracts. He said he would install these fiber backhaul boxes. And when he was done, fiber crews would be scheduled to come in after that. He said he would be done with his work in a few weeks. That was early Sept. But he had no idea how long it would be for fiber crews. He said some places fiber was within 50'. Others were up to a mile. He said the I-25/St. Francis site may be one of the first because fiber was nearby. However, they had not even started that site with NV upgrades when I left. It is on a transmission tower and may not be able to be converted by conventional crews. Robert via Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

  8. It is beyond pathetic. I always was told that ABQ was going to be one of the last markets, but I became really hopeful when I found activity last December. I know that when I discovered Ericsson working next to my home near Pojoaque last December 27th, I was shocked. And then with all the activity that started in late Spring with full builds, I thought New Mexico LTE was imminent. But the backhaul has languished. Plateau and AT&T backhaul areas now live, but Windstream and CenturyLink backhaul areas dragging on. At least there is a silver lining. By the time LTE starts rolling out, all the physical conversions should be complete with all the hardware in place. So LTE should spread much faster than other markets. But it will be little consolation now. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  9. I upgraded Scott last night to Premier when I received the donation. Welcome to Premier, Scott! Thank you to Tim for running the S4GRU College Picks and putting up the purse. It was a lot of fun! Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

This sounds like it may be a threshold issue. And it may not even be a problem, just a preference. We have just as many people around our forums who get mad because their device will not revert back to 3G when their LTE signal gets weak. To know if the G2 has lesser RF performance you would need to compare it to another device in the same places on the same site/sector/carrier while they both have an LTE signal to see which has a stronger signal. Otherwise you are just comparing software 3G fallback thresholds created by the OEM. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  12. I have been disappointed with AT&T so far. I was expecting it to be far more wonderful given what maximus and all the other trolls have extolled over the years. I miss my Sprint service. Voice quality is awful on AT&T, their Faux G network is not as good as all the S4GRU trolls say it is and their customer service is worse than Sprint in my experiences so far. If the voice quality is variable, it hasn't swung to the good side for me yet. The best quality I've experienced so far is to land lines, which is flat and cold sounding. But at least fully audible and intelligible. Mobile to mobile calls are tinny and hesitant, with some being really poor. However, if I switch to CDMA with my Sprint SIM, it does improve while roaming on VZW. So it is not the device. Sprint just wins on voice quality in my experiences. Their 4G is OK. However, about 20% of their sites drop to 100-200kbps at peak times. And it is really noticeable at my office. It seems AT&T is not upgrading HSPA capacity since they are deploying LTE now. The way people post on our site, you would think that AT&T and VZW have perfect networks. I actually prefer Tmo. But they do not offer service here, either. I still have to keep a VZW hotspot as a data backup, I'm afraid. Sprint customer service (through stores and call centers) get a bad rap from us. But I'm finding the same ignorance and ineptitude with AT&T customer service. At least the Sprint reps are friendlier while not solving my problems. Also, it seems like AT&T turns off my passive data. I use K-9 mail app. Works great. It's set to scan for emails every minute. However, quite often no emails will come in for hours unless I wake my device and use data actively for something else. Then a flood of emails arrive. If I put my Sprint SIM in and roam on Verizon, I seem to have no problems with getting emails. AT&T does have less data sites struggling in a general given area than Sprint. But in mature NV/LTE area, Sprint would be equal or better in almost every way. All things considered, you all won't have to worry about me sticking with AT&T. I will gladly come home to Sprint when I can. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

Yes. I missed that part. I only caught the comparison of the Moto X and the G2. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  14. Not true. There are places where there is Band 26 and Band 41 sites accepted now. It is all about geography and where you will use the device. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  17. I am thankful for our giving and helpful all volunteer staff. I am also thankful for our members who make S4GRU such a vibrant community. We are more than just mere forums. And I am thankful that you all carry the financial burdens of this site, so I do not have to. And thus my wife continues to allow me to come over play with my friends. Thank you to those of you have given recently. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

You could be experiencing the Circuit Switched Fallback Conundrum on the G2. The G2 is Triband LTE with single transmission path. The Moto X is SVLTE. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-357-nexus-5-and-lg-g2-experience-temporary-sprint-lte-connectivity-issues-due-to-circuit-switched-fallback-technology/ Robert via Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

  22. I would be shocked if Sprint and Dish partner up at this point. Ergen did a lot of damage over the Clearwire purchase. Something Sprint and SoftBank will not soon forget. And since they don't need Ergen's money, I just don't see it happening. Robert via Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
