Wow. And I thought the winds in Pahrump were bad last night. Fortunately, our communication towers were built to withstand hurricane force winds as they have lasted through 120 MPH winds in the past.

Looking at that middle story, those must've been some hellacious winds as they managed to knock out Nextel's service in the area.

I have landed at that airport right by where that tower is, You can get some really high and crazy winds though that area. I am just glad no one is hurt, that is all that matters. Typical I thought towers in areas like that are built to be able to handle a lot of wind also they get a lot of hurricane force winds and storms up the coast. That is what I don't fully get

Yea I saw that and I am like I am pretty sure nextel hasn't been around for almost a year now

Tower must not have been NV'd if the Nextel panels were still up. 

 

Seems all are up and running except VZW.

Just because someone isn't aware Nextel isn't an active network doesn't make them stupid. Anymore than you being unaware state statute 17-240 was replaced with 18-240A, or something of the sort.

Apparently it was 2 towers. they said on the news that 2 towers were knocked down between 25-50 years old and each 100-150ft high.

Wherever the wind was measured they only had gusts of 30-50mph

But it is believed a gust of 90mph brought the towers down.

Probably overloaded and no recent wind load/engineering study done. the tower should not fail in that type of situation. Looking at the amount of feedline coming out of the building and the gauge of steel it was inevitable.

Gotcha. I apologize, I didn't realize you were there and knew for certain the Nextel equipment was off the tower.
