800 on 1900 spacing?

Recommended Posts

Okay I know that this will be great for in building coverage but one question, with 1900 spacing I was wondering how much the downtilt would have to be to not cause interference... I ask this question because on the way to work ( I work outside of sprints coverage) I get 800 signal all over my town now been weeks since I've even seen signal check say anything different. But back to my question, on my drive to work I will see my dBm drop from -62 to roaminging in literally 1/2 mile (headed straight south of the cell site nothin to disrupt signal), and this is an area where I'd even have 1900 coverage. I know these towers may still be testing but anyone seeing what I'm seeing?

- would the downtilt of 800 on 1900 spacing, cause no real coverage increase just better inbuilding penetration?

Downtilt can be adjusted for each separate antenna element. So, you can have more downtilt on 800 than 1900. Even with downtilt, you still have 800's advantages of matter penetration, and propgation will be better. And severe downtilt is only used in very urban areas, where site density should be enough for it not to matter as much. Should.

Because CDMA1X is used for voice and SMS, only sparingly for data, interference is far less of a concern.  Voice and SMS work fine even with relatively poor Ec/Io.

Has 800 greatly increased your coverage footprint on your way to work?

No see that's the thing my coverage is almost exactly the same the only difference is I have more bars when in sprints area. Its almost like they can't use 800 to its full potential because of interfereance maybe with other sites? This happens every day I go from full bars to no bars in a half mile. Coverage cuts off about the same place it did before too.

Your network is still in testing phase.  Or it has been configured incorrectly.  Plenty of us use CDMA1X 800 for miles and miles through other cells that have not yet had CDMA1X 800 lit up.

We only have one CDMA 800 site live in our area now, but it is traveling 15-20 miles!!! It is broadcasting over 5 PCS sites in one direction. Just amazing.

I also have been impressed with the extreme distance of 800smr 1x. More than I expected.

That's good news for me in Pahrump. :) Great signal in my house for voice would really make things great.

Can "good news" and "Pahrump" be used together in the same sentence?

As far as I know, yes. I ignore the existence of those 'things' that make Pahrump famous.
