PhxkinMassacre
Hey guys, I'm going to Vegas with some friends for a week or two and am wondering how the 3g is out there. I have an evo lte and since lte isn't there yet I can't decide if I'm going to stick with this or re activate my original evo for a while since Vegas seems to be blanketed in Wimax according to sprints map. So if anyone had an idea as to what the 3g speeds are like out there (especially near the strip) it would help a lot Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk

There have been tons of upgrades in the area. https://network.sprint.com/search/3340%20Palmdesert%20Way,%20Las%20Vegas,%20NV/
pii100
From my experience last week its terrible on the strip(too crowded, ATT suffers also) but decent once you get away a small distance. I was able to get over 2Mb down behind the Venetian.
S4GRU
All carriers are bad on the Strip unless you are indoors on DAS. I have used ATT, VZW and Sprint on the Strip. I've never tried Tmo, but I'd expect the same. It can be really bad up high in a casino tower. Too much noise for your device. pii100
I suspect that the Venetian is using DAS in the mall/canal area as I had excellent signal and tolerable speeds 200-300Kb. DAS and Pico-cells are the only viable solution in such densely populated areas.
mtsmedly
As those have said before, off the strip isn't bad. That being said, your milage will vary 3G wise around the rest of the valley. I'm currently running a Galaxy Nexus and my 3G varies from Ok to useless depending on where I am. Areas inside the 215 beltway that circles Las Vegas are covered best, especially if you want to rock your OG EVO and WiMAX. I found being on the strip, using WiMAX really helped with data connectivity as it's not oversaturated with users like the 3G airwaves. brandon.kanthack
I have to agree with mtsmedly, I would switch back to the OG Evo, WiMax there has a pretty good spread, and isn't over-saturated, so its useable. 3G is sad there, too much concrete on the strip... Xlegendxero
I have the same concern. I have a weekend trip planned pretty soon to Vegas. It seems like everyone here is recommending to switch to a WiMax phone. I currently have an iPhone but just recently purchased a Samsung Nexus S 4G through eBay. anyone have an idea how well the battery performs while using WiMax? I know the battery would die fast on my old EVO 4G. then again any EVDO phone will die quickly in poor data speed areas.
Rawvega
Currently down at the Riviera (towards north Strip) and got this on 3G: and this on WiMAX: Can't say if that's typical though as I don't spend very much time on the Strip. Xlegendxero
Oh wow that's great news. Hopefully it's like that when I'm there.
