Your MSC is in Lansing, MI which is the same one that towers in south eastern Michigan connect to, East Michigan was supposed to start in October, so it just means that they have the MSC ready for your area. The Cleveland Market has its own MSC so by Sprint enabling eHRPD on the MSC that towers in the Cleveland Market will be connected to means that they're preparing for deployment.

For hand-off between CDMA and LTE to work on every tower in the Cleveland market they have to have the Pittsburgh, PA, Erie, PA, and Lansing, MI MSC up and ready to go as the towers bordering other markets will be connecting to those MSCs. So eHRPD will show up in the surrounding markets but it probably won't mean anything for those markets. There are very few towers connected to MSCs outside of the Cleveland market so it's very unlikely that eHRPD will be live unless they're actually going to do something, at least that's what I assume.

Good news, but I don't know if you can really trust what Sprint CSR's or store personnel tell you. Most of the time, they are guessing or echoing what this site says. Sprint is not directly releasing much info, not to the public or their employees...

ou can never trust any company, but the upgraded performance on my phone does suggest the rep i talked to was being honest. of course i am a idiot when it comes to phone technology

Ericsson has been doing a lot of upgrades to the legacy network, adding carriers and more backhaul capacity, to help the legacy network keep up with demand until the Network Vision upgrade. The Cleveland market, according to this thread, is a third round market, with work starting in December. This is a guess, based on documents from the start of the Network Vision project. Sprint recently disclosed they are running about one quarter behind in NV upgrades, so you can make your own assumptions. Really, the best way to know, is to become a sponsor of the site and get the updates in the sponsor section, or monitor sensorly for LTE popping up in your area.

. you basically copied and pasted from everything else this site had. I was well aware about everything you just stated. I said we are little Detroit because we now have a casino and our murder rates going up just as high as Detroit and we are smaller. Little Detroit

No, I meant the MSC for Toledo is in Lansing, MI which covers most of south east MI and north western OH. That market is set to start soon, so that's why you're likely receiving eHRPD even if you have no chance in hell of getting LTE within the next couple of months.

It's likely different for the Cleveland market because we have our own MSC for our market in specific.

I honestly didn't copy and past, it was mostly memorized.

so what your saying is that is the 4g core is in Lansing? Sorry just trying to understand, If so then that makes perfect sence then why we see eHRPD in Toledo scince they are starting in michgain

I know that doesnt mean that we will see lte anytime soon as we will be one of the last markets to start as I see it, but I could be wrong

Well, I upgraded my phone . . . I had NO idea how much I would miss WiMax now that I'm relegated to 3G only. I get virtually no 3G signal in my office (though WiMax was pretty strong).

*sigh*

Hurry it up Sprint!

I take it no one has any news on the NE Ohio rollout?

If you are not getting a 3G signal there, you will likely not get a 4G LTE signal there either. Sprint is deploying LTE on the same sites as their 3G. Not on WiMax sites. You must be near a WiMax site.

Something must be going on here in Cleveland, because I get full bar - 3G action but my downloads are ridiculously slow (like >5minutes for 9MB of data slow). I have noticed this slowdown of the last couple of days.

Me too! I tested yesterday morning and got a whopping 23 kbps down. Later in the afternoon I was at 300, and I'm at 17 right now (all from my desk). That's pretty freaking inconsistent, and I've never had problems like that here before. Oh, and I'm getting 15 up.

I'm also getting 376 ping right now, which is surprising low for a 17 kbps connection.

Tested again (immediately following the first test, same server, and I'm getting 284 ping, 516 kbps down, and 29 kbps up. Something seems wonky to me?

For reference's sake, I'm right at the "corner" of Transportation and 480.

Sounds like the networks just overloaded. Doesn't sound all that different from what people in other areas are experiencing when the backhaul can't keep up with the demand. Unfortunately I don't think it is due to any work being done in the area. However, if you speeds suddenly jump up to 1.5+Mbps, let us know, because that means something is going on!

There is a tower down right near my house (not working, not actually on the ground). I have been back and forth with Sprint about it for 4-5 days now. We usually have 5 bars and now 0-1. When I called the first time the CSR told me that the outage was already reported but he also mentioned that it is something that is affecting the Cleveland market. I don't really understand how one tower outage can affect anything more than just that one tower. Maybe there is an issue with the backhaul? This is a pretty serious tower (it must have every cell phone company's stuff on it), but I still have doubts. I really don't know much about this. They told me it would be fixed a couple days ago, then today, and still nothing. At this point is it possible they are just waiting for NV equipment to arrive?

Can't edit so I will add this little tidbit. Spoke with CSR and he told me that the tower near my home is scheduled to be upgraded to NV in February. Given that we are in the Cleveland market, I assume that means Cleveland will start to see LTE work in February/March, though hoping for earlier.

That actually sounds about right.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, we're not in the latest press release of coming cities yet. :-(

Bummer. I got excited when I ran a speed test back home and hit 1.6 Mbps. Must have been a fluke? Though I've hit 1.5 a few times (always in the evening).

Some legacy sites have AAV backhaul and can produce speeds greater than 1.5Mbps. You may have found one. We have two in Santa Fe, New Mexico that were upgraded in the past few months that can get over 2Mbps at off peak times now.

I've been getting pretty consistant download speeds since november in the greater Cleveland area.

I hope this is Network Vision work, you're farther away from Cleveland than me though, so it would make sense for it to be. You're more towards the edge of Cleveland metro.

EDIT: It looks like the tower you're connected to should be right next to Lowe's. I have a Monocular so I'll probably go try and get pics of the antennas and base station in a couple of days, unless you want to try and get pics yourself.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No specific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
