This is an emergency backup connection. When the WISP dies we jump over to hotspot, but only really use it for IM, blackboard, email, etc. She buys the 6 month package usually around September and it lasts through most of the winter, which is when here main connection seems to really suffer.

Looks like I know what the girlfriend is getting for her birthday this summer. Her home is hanging off what could be one of the worst WISPs there is, the telco won't bring a DSLAM out, and Time Warner just gut laughs at us. Sprint/Virgin is pretty darn solid though for those essential uses.

I agree. A spotify partnership and HD Voice launch seems like it would be a pretty thin announcement. Maybe some bluetooth speakers and assorted trinkets too? I'm personally hoping for some WiFi calling announcements

There has been speculation over the 4/29 Sprint event named "Hear It For Yourself" that it will be the official launch of HD Voice service on the network. There may be other topics discussed such as WiFi calling and VoLTE roadmap discussion etc. Recode is reporting that Spotify and Sprint will announce a partnership supporting carrier billing and possibly discounts for premium Spotify service. http://recode.net/2014/04/11/sprint-and-spotify-plan-to-partner-up/

Network Vision/LTE - East Kentucky Market (Lexington)
xdfgf replied to lil_jimmy_norton's topic in Markets
Woke up this morning to find 4G had returned to my home tower. If it wasn't I was going to contact Sprint, but that proved unnecessary. -

Network Vision/LTE - East Kentucky Market (Lexington)
xdfgf replied to lil_jimmy_norton's topic in Markets
4G is still down for some reason. We had some pretty nasty winds last night and I wonder if there was some damage to the panels or maybe the central Microwave tower here in town. Been too tied up so far to go investigate, but I intend to later. -
Sprint to join Rural Operators Roaming Hub (CCA and RRPP thread)
xdfgf replied to marioc21's topic in General Topics
Yes, I believe they are. As I was compiling the list I was checking various details against a few different websites. I don't believe I saw GSM on any of them. There are very few GSM regionals, which was kind of a surprise. -

Some funny business going on in Danville tonight. 1xRTT, 3g, and 4g all flashing on and off. Roaming one minute, not the other. If I remember correctly it was like this in the days leading up to LTE being launched. Crossing fingers for 800 this week -
Has T-Mobile/DT said anything publicly relating to the merger? Maybe SoftBank is trying to nudge them into DC to help in getting the deal approved. I'm probably naive in these matters but it seems to me that if both sides start saying "We want to do this. Tell us what we need to do." the more likely it will happen. Also what is the possibility of this being a play regarding a possible acquisition of DT's wireless business? I'm sure the German government wouldn't want to unload the wireline and internet services but maybe they're ready to bail on wireless. It seems to be a pretty regulated marketed in the EU and maybe they want out. I know it would still require US approval due to T-Mobile, but it would get a hell of a lot market access in some large countries. Same with Vodafone. I also don't see the gain in divesting themselves of Sprint in the near (5 years) future. They've dropped a lot of money and haven't seen enough improvement to get it back. Masa says he wants to be the biggest and best in the world, and with his SoftBank, Sprint, and other potential international holdings he very well could be. I expect some serious cash flow into SoftBank from the Alibaba IPO, and I guess he's looking to put it to work.

Vodafone has 404 million customers globally, T-Mobile has 143 million customers globally. Maybe this is more about pressuring DT to lower the cost for TMUS and help close the deal on the US side and not so much about entering the EU market. Son could be playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

So using a slide (at 9:42) from Son's presentation at CCA I compiled a list of the carriers shown. This list is probably not complete and I welcome any additions and modifications. Google Talked to Sprint and Verizon About Becoming an MVNO
xdfgf replied to CaptainSlow's topic in General Topics
I think it's kinda interesting that they spoke to the CDMA operators and not (that we know of) the two GSM providers. CDMA gets a lot of heat from multi phone users but the engineers and business people must see something worthwhile in it. -

Is there a list of the member companies of the CCA available? -
How the hell did I miss THAT article? Well anyway, some friends and I were discussing this possibility this week during a long car ride and we came to the conclusion that why would they buy into a shrinking business like pay tv? Maybe it's just a spectrum swap/sale or a further tie up in regards to the wireless home internet service test.

Personally this is the most interesting of the initiatives Sprint has going right now. Really curious to see the specifics of the service in Texas this summer. Interesting times to be a Sprint customer/fan.

Death star and big red want to grab the 600mhz spectrum

I would be surprised to see SprinT-mobile unload any of the 2.5/2.6ghz considering the way talk about it as a foundation for future network advancements. Softbank also has a lot of experience working with it in Japan and there is a large global customer base developing for TDD on that spectrum. It seems like backwards logic to dump it even if they have tons of it. Maybe they'd dump the 700 and some of the AWS?
